    - Interesting Problem I work for a group of physicians who do a lot of presentations nationally and internationally. One of them showed me something today I've never seen before: He opens up a presentation on his laptop (WinXP Pro, Office 2003). The presentation has several avi and mpeg movies on various slides. We run through it, everything works fine. We then connect his laptop to a projector via VGA cable to display the slideshow to the as-yet-to-arrive audience. We go through the presentation once again and some of the media files do not work! Somehow the links have been broken by simply connecting the laptop to an external display. Fortunately, he has a copy of Fix Links so a few seconds later everything is working again. The presentation and media files are all in the same folder - my understanding was that PowerPoint would look for the location that the file was originally linked from, if it didn't exist, it would then look in the folder that holds the presentation. If the media files were there, they would play. I have never seen the simple act of connecting to an external display break the links in a presentation before. He told me this had been happening to him and frankly, I didn't believe him until I saw it with my own eyes today. Anyone experience anything like this before?     - Extracting images from PPT file I need to extract images from a PPT file. For those of you that don't know what a PPT file is it is a Microsoft Power Point File. I can't do several of the methods used as this is going to be web based. I can't have the users save the Power Point project as an HTML project either. There basically going to come to this site i will develop and then upload there PPT file and it will extract the images from the PPT file and then put it on the server temporarily and make and XML. The XML file and the images will be put into a zip folder that they can download. That is basically what is going to happen. My problem is i can't get the images from the PPT file. I was planning on doing this with PHP but i don't know if it is even possible. Also the servers this will take place on are UNIX based.     - Powerpoint alignment issues When I open older 2003 versions of powerpoint in 2007, most all the alignment of text boxes and headings are slightly off by a space or two. Also, text boxes are often covered up. In addition, when typing in a text box, the cursor is a space below what you can see on the slide. Any assistance would be appreciated.     - Can I show the Windows Desktop in a Powerpoint slide I have a monitoring program I need to view on an LCD TV, but I would also like to show a constant recycling PowerPoint presentation as well. If possible, I would like to have powerpoint show the Windows Desktop during the presentation just like it would a slide. Basically, I would have the powerpoint run with 20sec delays on each slide and then cut to the desktop for about 2mins.     - White text in PowerPoint2000 I have a user that needs to use white text in her slides. The problem is that the background of the text box is also white. She has to either set the font a different color, or use a background fill (of, say, light gray) in order to see the text as she enters it. Then she has to reset the colors to white again once she is happy with her input. Anyone have any ideas for simpler ways of work with white text here?     - linking pdf files to a PowerPoint presentation In Office 2007 Stan Hi . . . hope somebody can help. I have 4 pdf files linked to my powerpoint pres. They open in Reader as a result of clicking a menu item in the presentation. This seems to work fine. The presentation will be put on CD and used as a handout. I have embedded a music clip in the presentation that starts with the presentation and continues throughout the presentation, despite the number of times you click or return to the main menu, EXCEPT when I open one of these PDF files, it stops the music and it does not restart. At one point I had this working correctly so I know it is a possibility, but I have tried for hours to get the music to at least continue playing after I close the pdf, or better yet, while the pdf is opened, but I can't. What am I missing here? Thank you. I am desperate and do not want to give up on this especially after having it working at one point in time! I've been asked to purchase a projector and lap top to be used for powerpoint presentations. I know very little about powerpoint or the projectors. I've got a couple of basic questions. - could I prep a presentation on my pc and save it to a disc/memory stick and use the projector to read and play the presentation, or do all projectors require input from a pc? - If I use a laptop to run the presentation what is the prefered method of connectivity to the projector.     - Test Review Presentation I'm new to powerpoint design. I have a powerpoint now that is setup so that when the question and the distractors are shown, you can click on the slide again and the slide will appear again with the answer at the bottom ("Answer: A"). Somehow, this is not setup on a separate slide. The answer is there when in the edit mode but it doesn't show until you click on the slide again after the answer and distractors a shown. Any tuitorial on how to set that up? I've tried copying and changing the information on the slide but it doesn't work. Just comes up with the answer already there.     - Adding Total Number of slides to the page number field in the footer I was looking for a feature in powerpoint that would be the equivalent to one that exists in MS Word.     - Not Responding errors When I am using the custom animation on my slides, after ever selection the program stalls, fades to a white screen, indicates it is not responding, then resets and takes me back to where I was with the formatting that I requested complete.     - Snapshot Viewer Control resize error I have snapshot views (.snp files) that were generated from Access. To make these viewable in Powerpoint, I add a Snapshot Viewer Control (from the control toolbox) on each slide and then associate them to the appropriate .snp file. The PROBLEM is that the snapshot viewer controls get bigger and bigger as you page back and forth between slides in the presentation and after a few times through block out all other content on the slides.     - Slideshow reverts to 1st slide after 5 minutes of inactivity (kios I'm using PowerPoint in kiosk mode to construct a photo portfolio. After 5 minutes of inactivity (no mouse movement), the presentation automatically reverts to the first slide. I don't want this to occur.     - Formatting Issues Making PDF of PowerPoint Notes View Often times when we make a PDF of the Notes view in PowerPoint, the PDF has different line breaks than the actual PowerPoint file. So, if a soft return was used to move something to the next line, sometimes that return appears in the middle of a paragraph and creates a large amount of blank space in a paragraph.     - convert a .pps to a.ppt I took an existing powerpoint presentation i had and made dozens and dozens of changes to it (about 7 hours worth....) by accident, I failed to save that presentation as a .ppt filetype prior to saving it as a .pps filetype. Not sure what you are after exactly. Are you looking for pictures of a flag
or race. Or is it a template of some kind.
For pictures an old fashioned Google search will do. For templates check out
the templates available on Microsoft Office Online.
