 - Powerpoint 2007 and PP 200- I have created presentations with PP 2007. I am trying to run those presentations on PP2000. I have downloaded all the pertinent updates to the 2000 system and they simply will not run (video). I have also saved it w/in PP2007 as a PP97-2003 to no avail.  - what happened to pattern fills in Powerpoint 2007? I used to be able to put pattern fills into shapes on Powerpoint (and Excel). Now I can't find it. I know that color is the new pattern, but I still often use a B&W printer and would prefer the pattern fills. Any ideas or help? It seems that the default org chart allows you to change fill, font, and line color, but it won't allow me to have a rectangular box. The 3d scheme gives me the rectangle I want, but won't let me change fill, font, or line color.  - spacing issue with PP2007, not PP2003 Has anyone seen a problem with extra spacing somehow being injected into text boxes in PP2007? We have a branch office that just came onto our intranet. All the company presentations that they open in PP2007 appear to have an extra empty paragraph added to them that shoves the text upward in the text boxes. (Although placing the cursor at the end of the text in the text box and choosing delete does nothing.) However, when they open these same presentations in PP2003, they are fine and look as designed. I noticed a different post from someone on 6/12/08 that complained about stacked characters. There was mention about non-Microsoft certified printer drivers being the potential culprit.  - find paragraph with find command Is there a way to find a paragraph mark within a text box in Power Point 2007? I'd like to replace it in many instances with a space. When I choose find ^p from the find dialogue box, I get "Power Point has finished searching the presentation. The search item wasn't found." This is of course not the case. There are all kinds of paragraphs in this slideshow's text boxes. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to accomplish this. thanks. I created a powerpoint presentation. I edited the master template to create a set of slides with different layouts and fixed graphics. I also set the colours and fonts to be used. I then went to themes and told Powerpoint to save the current theme. If I open a blank presentation and hover my mouse over the icon for my saved theme, Powerpoint tries to apply it. Powerpoint will then crash; something to do with ppcore.dll. You get the "Report and Recover my work" dialog. If I save my presentation as a template (dotx), I can create new presentations based on the template without any problems. The original presentation that the theme is based on will open/save/ close without issue. My best guess is that some component that is being referenced as part of the theme can't be read/executed and instead of telling me what, the software is crashing instead.  - Is there a way in PP to do a custom print page greater than 54" lo I have the opportunity to create a poster greater than 54" long (4.5 feet) for a conference but both the custom and banner page sizes in Powerpoint default to 54".  - Format Notes in Presenter View I am working on a presentation and have set it up to use the Presenter View. In the standard "edit" view, the text in my Notes section is formatted - bullets, indents, and numbers. However, in the Presenter View, all formatting is lost. And, since Presenter is a view, no editing can be done so I can't add in the formatting. Does anyone know of a way to keep the formatting from the edit view in the Presenter view?  - scripts and LiveWeb I keep getting a script error warning when running a webpage using LiveWeb in PowerPoint 2002 that I do not get when I run the same webpage directly in IE7. When I run that page using LiveWeb in PPT the error I get is a popup window that says: .............................. Internet Explorer Script Error An error has occurred in the script on this page Line: 16 Char: 1 Error: Object Expected Code: 0 Url: ...... Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? ............................... What is puzzling is that this is not really a Internet Explorer error because it does not occur when I open the page directly in IE7. Anyone know how I can stop this from happening? Even if I run PowerPoint 2002 with the security level set to Low, I get the same error, so that does not seem to be the problem.  - Master Slides My boss put together a presentation, but every slide is a Master rather than a normal design. When you click on the slide sorter view, they don't show up.  - Powerpoint Viewer A friend has a new pc with Vista as OS. He has received several .pps files and asked me how to open them. I had him d/l and install Powerpoint Viewer 2007. When he attempts to open a file, he receives a msg that (words to the effect) Windows cannot open the file and to go to "Set Associations" (something more). I had him save the file to desktop, maneuver to "Open with...", select Powerpoint, check the box to "always open these files with this program", and then click OK. At this point the file will launch. However, next time he tries to open a PP file, he has to go through the same routine all over agian, even tho the "remember" box is checked. Now what? I'm at the end of my usefulness...  - Auto Play PPS on my website I have created a presentation using PowerPoint 2003 that I want to put on my website. I have set up the hyperlink, but when I click on it, PowerPoint does not automatically start. I have several items on my website in other formats (.wav, .wmv, .pdf etc) all of which automatically start in the proper software. My website viewers get a window that wants them to "find" a software to open the presentation. I have saved it as a .pps file and have changed the properties to powerpoint as the software to open it.  - PowerPoint opens 2 browsers in a hyperlink I teach my classes with Powerpoint 2007. I have extensive weblinks in my lectures, and I have made Firefox my default browser to open when I click on a URL within PowerPoint. I thought that I had gone in to PP and changed the default browser in PP, but either 1) I didn't, or 2) it is overriding my command----either way, it open BOTH browsers, Firefox and Explorer. Then I have to close 1 of the windows. This happens every time I click on a hyperlink to the web. This was never a problem in PP 2003. Can someone help me?  - Problem using Liveweb for local files Hi I am using PowerPoint 2002 in Windows XP SP3 and recently downloaded and installed the "LiveWeb" PowerPoint addin. In trying it out, it works great showing WebPages on the web within PowerPoint. However, I need to use it to show some local html files on my HD and am running into difficulties doing that. The file I am trying to show is named: E:/website/index.htm In my default browser (Firefox 2.0.0.15) the url is file:///E:/website/index.htm if I add the page as the url file:///E:/website/index.htm , when I run the slideshow, I get an error message that says: "Cannot find 'file///E:///E:/website/index.htm....' If I add instead E:/website/index.htm , I now get a webpage that says: This program cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: a.. You are not connected to the Internet. b.. The website is encountering problems. c.. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try: Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected. Retype the address. Go back to the previous page. More information: This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: a.. Internet connectivity has been lost. b.. The website is temporarily unavailable. c.. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. d.. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. ............................. Questions: 1. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Even though I AM constantly connected to the internet, that is irrelevant because this file is not on the web but on my HD. How do I make LiveWeb load this local file for me? 2.  - Page Down flips through several pages instead of just one There have been on several occassions when the presenter presses the page down button on the projector's remote, the slide flips through several pages instead of one. This has happened at the beginning and in the middle of a presentation--first half goes fine and then BAM page down flips through several slides. A user has reported this happening even when pressing the right arrow or page down key on the laptop's keyboard. Anybody come across this? This is killing me cause being a setup/support person for meetings/presentations, when that glitch happens in the middle of an important presentation or when the CEO is presenting, I just want to run and hide. Here are the specs: Powerpoint 2003 Projectors: Dell 3300MP, Dell 3200MP Laptops: HP 6710b, IBM T40 Presentations are ran in Slide Show mode Initially I thought it was the remote, but this has happened with both projectors and laptops. Only common variable I can think of is that Office SP2 and updates haven't been installed. Could that be it? I hope so. I've searched the internet and can't find a fix or any forums talking about this. Would it better to just use PowerPoint viewer instead? Could it be the presenter's power point file? I prefer the menu item display in 2003 compared with the banner in 2007. Be that as it may, my problem is learning how to embed music in a PowerPoint file so others can hear the background music when they open the slideshow. As it is now, I can embed the background music but it only plays from my computer. When I send it as an attachment to others they aren't able to hear the music. What am I doing wrong? PowerPoint evidently refers to the location of the audio file when it is playing on my computer but doesn't embed the music file into the PowerPoint presentation. An added question. What formats can be used for the music files and is one better then the other. Is .wav better then .wmv? Thanks for any help you can give me.  - Audio background I am using PowerPoint 2007 and still find it confusing compared with PP2003.. I much prefer the menu item display in 2003 compared with the banner of 2007. Be that as it may, my problem is figuring out how to embed music in a PP file and be able to send it in an e-mail where others can hear the music while it is displaying the slideshow.  - Delay the graphic Hi, I have a simple problem for most I guess but not me. I am stacking three pictures and the last has the results of a swimming race which I need to delay on the screen for a bit longer than the rest (so it can be read). I cannot seem to work out how to hold it there on top for a few seconds before I move on to the next slide. I extend the time of the whole slide but this does not help the last graphic just comes in slowly but leaves too quickly.  - Why does my video in power point just play a blank screen? I'm trying to play video files in my power point presentation. The files play fine in windows media player.  - Speed of Export / Auto Update Off? I am exporting the backgrounds of a bunch of slides by clearing the objects and exporting the slides. Is there any way to speed up this process? I was seeing some ideas through excel to freeze the window, but I cant find the equivilant for powerpoint.  - Slide Timing Frankly, I'm embarrassed to share this but.....I have a rather large slide show in process. All the slides had various lengths of times that they were to stay before transitioning on to the following slide. I apparently, unwittingly, changed all the timings back to 10 seconds. I'm willing to pay the "stupid tax" on my error and go back and re-time everything....but WHAT would, could, I have done to cause that? I want to make sure I don't do it again cause it's going to take me 3-4 hours to fix the problem. (PP2007). If I were to have a "wish list" in this program (some programs overkill on safeguards)....I would like to see and "are you SURE warning" before a global change is executed--but nobody asked me, did they?  - Transparent tool in 2007 gone? Upgraded to PP 2007 on my XP and to my dismay, cannot find the transparent wand/tool that I loved so much.  - callout dimensions You guys are a lot of help, this is a great source of how to info. Let me see if I can stump ya though, because this one has stumped me. I need to programmatically find the dimensions of a callout. The issue I am having is that I can get the top and left and the height and width, but those are the dimensions of the actual circle/bubble and not the line leading to it. If I could find a way to ungroup those two items or find the dimensions of the whole object that would be really helpful. I work with high slide count presentations (version 2007) where it will be
useful to employ command buttons to jump to (select) slides while developing
the document (not only during the presentation). Is there a way the buttons
(code) can be made to execute outside of Presentation Mode ? I've tried this
using Hyperlinks as well but it still requires selecting the hyperlink and
right clicking to open the link . . . Not really what I'm looking for . . .
Also, while I'm on the topic of created hyperlinks, how do I change the font
color ? . . . Seems I can change the size but not the color ?

Hi Jeffrey

I'm afraid I can't help you with the first question (other than suggesting
you make the slide thumbnails in the navigation pane on the left hand side
as small as possible - if I do that I can see 30 slides at once on my 17"
laptop monitor. Hovering over the thumbnails shows the slide titles).
However I can help you with the hyperlink colour question - design tab ->
colours drop down -> create new theme colours -> you can then select a
colour for hyperlinks and followed hyperlinks. As an aside, I never link to
the actual text, I link to the textbox which avoids the colour issue (and
the ugly underlining) but it depends on your project - you may need them to
be obvious hyperlinks...
