Hi. I have a powerpoint project that runs fine on my desktop and even runs
fine off a DVD copy or a Thumb drive copy on my Toshiba Satelite notebook.
The problem is when I transfer it onto the hard drive of the notebook. All
except one of the videos embedded into the project run fine. One of the
videos just comes up with a blank screen. The video plays fine on Windows
media player, it just doesn't want to play as part of the powerpoint
presentation. I have run out of ideas to try. Any suggestions what might be
causing this rather frustrating glitch?

I don't know exactly what caused the problem. But can you just check whether
you set the option like it should start playing only by a click and that hide
during show as true? I guess this can be one reason why it doesnt showup.

Hi John

It may be to do with file path length - try saving to a folder directly on
your C drive (e.g. create a C:\MyPresentation folder and save there).

As Lucy said.

If it's just one video could that particular file have a very long name?

Thanks, all of you who replied. The video does have a long file name so I
will try re-naming it and see if that works. The file is located in the same
folder as the powerpoint so that should not be an issue. I have tried
different video motion effects so that does not seem to have any effect. I
left the computer at the location where I am teaching a class so I won't be
able to try it until tomorrow night and will let everyone know then if it
worked to change the file name. It is rather curious that it will work when
it is run on another computer or from the DVD but not from the hard drive.
Maybe it's time for a new notebook. :-) John

Thanks so much for your help! I shortened the file name and it now works
fine. I'm not sure why it works on my desktop or when running off the DVD
and only balked when it was on the hard drive of the laptop but it fixed the
problem. Must be a characteristic of the Toshiba Satelite laptop. Thanks
again.
