    - Enterprise version of MOSS? I am trying to determine if there is a specific "Enterprise" version of MOSS 2007. From what I have can determine from Microsoft's site, there isn't a separate "Enterprise" installation, or even a separate Enterprise license key, but rather it is just an additive CAL. In that I mean, you buy a standard CAL for each user on your system, and then you buy an additional Enterprise CAL for each user. Since it is a CAL, you don't have to activate anything on the server- side. Does this mean all Enterprise features are 'installed' and working regardless? I am not trying to insinuate I should just do this, but rather cover the legal aspects for a customer. I am trying to estimate costs for this customer and can't seem to find anything about a separate Enterprise MOSS SKU or installation. Anyone do this already?     - not able to login into sharepoint after recreated the user in ADS Hi We are using share point portal server 2003 and share point services 2.0 version. The users are created in ads, which in remote place and we have replicated the ads in our location. We face 2 types of problem 1. one user was able to login in to his share point site from his location, but when we try to login from his account, we were not able to get into the site 2. another user was not able to login in to his account into share point, but he is receiving mails from exchange server. When we try to login we get this error for both of them Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. Access requests are not enabled. Both users were deleted from ads and recreated with the same name. the issue is because of that or anything else.? I deleted the user from manage user and try adding it from there, but it gives user already exists error.     - Upgrading SPS2003 to MOSS2007 - Problem with upgrade definition file for custom site definition Hi, our intranet is using SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP2, and runs on top of SQL Server 2005. We have one custom site definition, which is used as a template for about 30 SPS areas in our intranet. A MOSS 2007 version of the site definition has been made, and it seems to be fully functional. The SPS2003 portal is upgraded by the gradual upgrade method. Everything seems to upgrade successfully except for the areas that use our custom site definition. Prescan.exe completes without errors. When running the actual upgrade, SharePoint states that everything was successful (no errors in upgrade.log either), but the event log has numerous entries with the following message: ": List does not exist. The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user." This is also the message we get when trying to load one of the upgraded sites based on our site definition. The SharePoint log says that it cannot locate the schema.xml file for the list (the schema.xml file is correctly placed in the list feature folder on the SharePoint server). All other upgraded sites are fully functional, and we have no problems creating new MOSS2007 sites from our new custom site definition. On the broken sites, we have noticed that the system libraries created by the publishing feature are actually working just fine. We believe that our custom upgrade definition file could be the problem. We tried several different versions of our upgrade definition file, one of them is shown below. We would be very grateful if anyone could point us in the right direction regarding the upgrade definition file. The documentation in the WSS SDK does not help us, and we have not found any web postings that could help us with our particular problem.     - MOSS 2007 Shared Services Provider Administrator Account We have an instance of Project Web Access installed using a Share Services Provider. When trying to change the Administrator account for the SSP on the Shared Services Adminstration, the Administrator Account is unavailable to be changed. The user account has been changed in all Application pools and the related services but this one location. The site that is unavailabe is the Project Web Access.     - Exchange and Sharepoint? I've been tasked to automate a process that is currently somewhat convoluted. Documents are sent in via e-mail and make their way to a public folder (with sub folders) in Exchange. Since public folders are going away, this is one thing that I have to address, but that's another issue. Suffice to say, we will have information in some place in Exchange (probably a designated mailbox) that we'd like to somehow route this information elsewhere (a more appropriate store for archival of documents). So I'm wondering if there is some kind of tool that could be used for automating the process of pulling stuff from this designated mailbox, over to somewhere in Sharepoint. Since I know very little about Sharepoint and its capabilities, forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere or if it's an often covered subject. I'd just like to find out capabilities and then track down the how-to. Once we get these items over to Sharepoint, we're hoping to have these in some manner that a "supervisor" or admin of some sort, can assign these documents into some sort of work queue for people to process, and then they would flag these items as completed.     - SharePoint 2003 distributed farm Hi Can somebody clarify a few points with regards to distributing servers within a farm in different locations. E.g. is it possible to have a farm with SQL Cluster and 1 WFE and Index/Job server in one location and have a remote WFE. Also have people seen benefits from doing this?     - Sharepoint Server 2007 setup Hi, A week or so ago i initially installed SharePoint windows services on a test server which was great. I set this up to all run from the single server and hence used the local database for the sharepoint application. This enabled me to get to grips with it. I then decided to upgrade and installed Office SharePoint Server 2007, which after it had completed looked great and i could clearly see the old windows sharepoint servcies sites that it initially had created had changed in appearance a bit and it now said Office SharePoint server etc. I then decided i wanted to use an existing SQL server so that i could use the index search features. So i uninstalled both SharePoint Server and Windows SharePoint Services. I decided to then simply use the Office Serevr 2007 disk and set it up as a farm set up with a remote sql database, and after installation and configuration i accessed the default web application , but it appears that the site is just the windows sharepoint servcies site. My question is how do i get the Office portal site with all of its differences in appearance? Any help would be gratefully appreciated as im new to sharepoint and must admit when starting off with it there is so much to configure/know it is quite confusing.     - Missing list types in Content Web Query Webpart Hi, I have a sharepoint publishing website which has a Pages Library called "Pages" where users create pages and manage it's content. What I'm trying to do is to add a content web query webpart at the home page to display the content of the site. The problem I have is that I select "Show items from all sites in this site collection" and the content under the "Pages" list doesn't get listed. I think the problem is with the combo "List Type". There I have the following values: Custom List Document Library Posts Tasks Workflow History I think I should have the list type "Pages Library" but I don't. Actually I select "Document Library" as list type but, as I said, no results from the "Pages" list are displayed. Why doesn't appear this missing list type in the combo ? Which list types appear ?     - Sharepoint 2003 search error, search using a "dash" gives network error Hi there We've got a sharepoint 03 server. The default search give me a search result page that tells me there has been a "Network error" in the search. I use a "dash" in the search when the error is shown.     - Adding sharepoint's version number to a word document - Question Howdie! I was pointed to the following article that describes how to add the sharepoint's version number to a word document. Did anybody follow this article, too? As I was trying to follow all these steps, it seems like I am missing a part, as after I successfully(!) added the compiled DLL-file into the sharepoint's cache, the system would come up with a error message, stating the "file or assembly cannot be found. [...] or a reference" of it. What am I missing? I even copied the DLL file into the ISAPI folder where Microsoft.Sharepoint.dll resides.     - How do I sort KPI's in a web part? Hi all. I've been fiddling with KPI's for a little while and although I can get them to do most of what I want (within the scope of their functionality) there's one thing that has me stumped. How do I sort the KPI's in a web part view of a dashboard? As of now they get sorted by their ID (i.e. the order they've been created) which is less than optimal in most cases. I've gone through all the properties in the "Modify Shared Web Part" menu, none of them apply to sort order AFAICT. I tried creating a specific view that has the correct sort order to base the web part on but this doesn't work either. I just now fired up SharePoint Designer in the hope of finding a way to do it there but I've only used SharePoint Designer a few times and couldn't really find my way around it yet so no dice there either.     - SharePoint 2007 design - web applications Hi, Can anyone point me to any information available about when to use a new web application in SharePoint 2007? I think I understand what a web application is but I'm not sure what logic you would use to decide when to use a new one and when not to. Each web application is an IIS web site. I know that if you want to use different authentication methods (integrated and forms authentication, for example) then this is one reason to create separate web applications. I know that each web application can use a different application pool (and therefore run as a different service account identity). If you are setting up a simple standalone farm for a relatively small number of users, would you create a single web application (there would actually be two counting the Central Administration web app) and put the portal, SSP and My Site all as site collections under the one web application? Or would you create a separate web application for the SSP? The My Site? If so, why? I'm struggling with when to use a new web application and when not to. Each site collection lives in a content database (which can contain many site collections), but multiple content databases can live in a single web application, so there doesn't seem to be a "database reason" to create multiple web applications. With host header mode you can even create site collections on completely different host headers all within the existing single web application, so this is another reason that you rarely MUST use multiple web applications. You still can of course, but there doesn't seem to be many configurations that force you to use multiple web applications. Is there a compelling reason to put your SSP in it's own web application?     - MOSS 2007 Javascript and loginErrors Hello, I've installed a new W2K3 server with it's own domain (active directory), with all the latest updates and .NET 1.1,2.0 and 3.0. Also installed SQL Server 2005. After succesfully installing MOSS 2007 and running the configuration wizard succesfully, i browsed to Central Administration. As usual i needed to login. But strangly not 1 time, it asked me about 8 times for a username password. The page showed up. This happens on all the Central Administration pages. Strange thing is that on some pages i also receive Javascript errors (for example "Object Not Found")..... So most of the pages are due to this not working..... Who can help me?     - MOSS 2007 Development - VM or no VM? All, what has worked best for you in regards to developing MOSS/ Sharepoint based solutions? I'm working on a WCM project and wanted to validate my insight on MOSS development. When I mention development, I mean the capability to perform the full gamut of MOSS development (web parts, workflow, master pages, forms, etc). Are you: 1 - Using a Virtual Machine based environment running Windows 2003 Server, MOSS, VS2005, SQL, etc (my preferred method)? 2 - Developing locally, with your host machine running Windows 2003 Server, MOSS, VS2005, SQL, etc? Also, has anyone ever developed a Sharepoint Web Part without installing MOSS/SPS locally? I'm almost 100% sure this isn't possible (and I'm not talking about User Controls using Smart Part). You can create ASP.NET 2.0 webparts without the MOSS framework, but you are missing out on of the Sharepoint Web Part features (ie - caching framework). A situation where you would not need a VM or local install is if you are doing remote design/configuration of your MOSS site (site content editor). If you are doing MOSS WCM development and are NOT performing Web Part development, then you can always just use Sharepoint Designer to connect to a development server to modify Master Pages, content, etc. Any insight on how you are doing MOSS development in any of the scenarios above would be greatly appreciated.     - Granting full rights to an AD group to all MOSS 2007 sites in a site collection Hi, We have a group of people who need full rights to all content in our main SharePoint 2007 site collection (a single site collection under a web application). I would like to do this by adding all these users to an active directory security group, and granting rights that way. This makes it easy to manage. From what I can tell, there is no way to do this. Am I right? You can add an AD security group to the "Farm Administrator group" section. However, being a farm administrator does not mean you can access all content in all sites in a site collection. In fact, you can be a Farm Administrator and not actually have permission to access any sites. As a Farm Administrator you can grant yourself full access to all sites by editing the Site Collection Owner and making yourself either the Primary or Secondary owner. If you do this, then you have full rights to all content within that site collection. From what I can tell, only Site Collection Owners and Site Collection Administrators (Owners are automatically Administrators) have full rights to all sites in the site collection. However, you can only add users to this section and NOT an active directory security group. Is there another way I can do this? I can grant farm rights to an AD group and I can give an AD group administrator rights on the server itself, but neither of these options grant access to content (but both options do allow you to take ownership of the site collection if you wanted).     - Failed to register SharePoint Services Hello, I am trying to re-install Windows SharePoint Services 3 onto a Windows Server 2003 SP1 machine. It goes through the install and then while it is configuring, it quits after step 5 with these errors: - Failed to register SharePoint Services - Could not access the Search Service configuration database - An exception of type system.runtime.interopservices.comexeption was thrown. I had this error once before, so I did a complete re-install of Windows Server 2003 , asp.net, and SharePoint Services 3, and all worked fine. I am trying to avoid the complete re-install of the O/S. I believe it is related to permissions somewhere, but have tried articles 899965 and 909444 with no success. At this point, it looks like another re-install would be quicker, but I would like to resolve this by finding out why and correcting the issue.     - Title column in system item content type I everybody I wanted to change the default name of the system item content type to my native language, and I did it, the problem is that when I am running a SPQuery it doesn't work anymore, I get the error: "One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields" I went back and tried to change the name of the item content type back to title, but now I can't I receive the error: "The column name that you entered is already in use or reserved.     - Custom Content Types I have created a custom Content type, which inherits from Announcements. The Custom Content type is meant to store information about New-Hires at our company. It has the new employee's name, manager name, job title, photo, start date, background, etc. I want to create an announcement list based on this new content type and have it displayed on the home page of our MOSS 2007 portal. I want the list view on the page to display the employees name, and start date. When a user clicks on the employee name in the list, it should take them to a details page showing all the other information about the new-hire. I created the list and put the list view on our home page. when a user clicks an empolyee name in the list , it takes him to the DispForm.aspx for that page. I Want to customized the display of that page to show the photo in the uper right, other stats in a table to the left of the photo, and background on the bottom. I thought that when I created a custom Content type, I could create a custom display format for that content type in MOSS 2007. I can't ficgure out how to do this. can anyone offer sugestions as to how i could create a custom display format for a content type that inherits from announcements. BTW. I did watch ted pattisons screen cast about how to create custom content types and custom pages for them. I created aniother custom content type that inherits from Page.     - MOSS 2007: running profile-code with a scheduled task Hi, im doing some regular updates in the userprofiles, and wants to run this console app with a scheduled task. But i get "unauthorizedaccess", even with a user with full control for sharepoint, and local admin on the machine. It only works if I use the account I used when installing sharepoint.     - MOSS 2007 Web Presence Requirements My current implementation to show Presence via a webpage is written in ASP.NET 2.0 and uses PersonaControls to interact with Outlook/ Communicator 2005 on the client. In order for this to work the client must have Outlook or Communicator installed and running.     - MOSS and ASP.NET 2.0 I have an Intranet based on ASP.NET 2.0 using Webparts to give a similar experience to Sharepoint. This development was made as Sharepoint 2003 did not suit our needs and Sharepoint 2007 was not ready.     - Alternate Access Mappings in MOSS Can I use AAM to change or redirect urls to current web applications? I want to change the url away from the http://server:port/ scheme. I have been working on creating an Intranet infrastructure for my company. I worked on it for a couple of weeks before my Network Admin decided it was ok to upgrade to ISA2006 (from 2000). So I have a bunch of sites using the http://server:port/ url scheme. But now I can create new sites with the http://site.company.com/ url. How do I change the old sites to the new url scheme?     - Permissions Error We have an issie with permissions on our WSS/SPS sites.     - Creating heirarchical navigation I am trying to create a heirarchical navigation for several sub-sites I have created. The problem I am having is that these sub-sites all need to be 'grouped' together under a menu (in the nav). The only way I have found on how to do this is to create a blank site (off the top level site) and then create all the sites under that. The problem with that is there is a blank site which I don't really need. For example, this is what I want: Portal ---HR ---Accounting ---Teams -------Design -------Engineering -------Support Notice how design, engineering, and support are all 'children' of Teams. I would rather not have the "Teams" menu go to a blank site. Right now it is a separate site that is displayed in the nav with a dropdown which displays the three 'child' sites, but if someone clicks on just Teams, it goes to a blank site. Is this possible?     - IE Error when trying to open Office documents in Sharepoint Hello, We use Sharepoint as our IntraNet. There are many offices docs stored there for sharedc access. I recently moved to a new PC, and on this new machine, IE crashes any time I attempt to open an office doc through shrepoint. This crash gives the following message: "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in IEXPLORE.exe [904]" The error number 904 is not always the same. This occurs if I click on a document link to open it, or drop down the menu and select "Edit in ..". It does NOT occur if I drag the link from Sharepoint to my desktop, and then open the document from that shortcut. That has been my work-around, but it isn't very convenient at all. When I specify a name for the document library long equals to 70 characters it is created with the correct name but the URL of the document library is truncated (almost 20 characters lost).     - Content Index Log Gatherer Warning I was wondering if anybody ever came across the following warning message while performing an update on a Sharepoint 2003 content index: "(0x12) Error: (0x0 The operation completed successfully. ) Description: ()." Although the message claims an error occured, the log gatherer places this message amongst it's warnings. I have noticed the error (warning) on a variety of different file types (xls, pdf, txt, dwg, dot) and also that the files on which the error (warning) occurs are indeed searchable on completion of the content index's update.     - MOSS: how to make the rootfolder of My Site accessible I use Webdrive to access MOSS sites for special purposes, I was able to assign a driveletter to the Sharepoint portal root folder, but cannot find a MySite root folder for another driveletter. I know that My Site runs through another port (in my case), but where can I find the rootfolder, in order to make one driveletter that accesses all My Sites?
