Chris,
The issues are that the Office 2003 install has it's own set of "SharePoint"
components built in. These are for accessing a SharePoint 2003 setup. What
you have to do is install the SharePoint 2001 Compatibilty Client install
(or whatever it's called, don't have the CD handy) which is available on the
SharePoint CD. This will allow your Office 2003 installed system to create a
network place and connect to the SharePoint 2001 workspace. You will not be
able to (or at least I haven't) connect your Office 2003 to SharePoint 2001
(like saving a Word document directly to the portal). There is also a
problem in that you will not be able to view the 2001 properties in the
network place you setup. You can navigate and do some functions, but it's
very limited. Basically:
2001 Office -> 2001 Sharepoint - OK but need to install SharePoint client
tools
2001 Office -> 2003 Sharepoint - Office doesn't know how to talk to
Sharepoint
2003 Office -> 2001 Sharepoint - Somewhat crippled functionality but works
2003 Office -> 2003 Sharepoint - The best!
