    - SPS Pass Thru and local service accounts Hello All, this is a goody for you I have been asked to create a SPS2003 server farm using 3 servers, one frontend and search, one index and job and the final machine is SQL All machines are Service packed correctly The crux of my problem is that the end user client will only allow me to use Local service accounts on each machine rather than the recommended Domain level service accounts. So I have created the same account with the same password on each machine and have had some degree of success. I can add the first SPS server into the farm with no problems and assign it roles on the topology management page When I try to add the second server however I get an error which seems to indicate that server2 is trying to add the local service account from server1 into its SPS_WPG group. i.e. Server1\SPS_ServiceAcc cannot be added to Server2\SPS_WPG For obvious reasons this fails as local accounts cannot be added to local groups on remote servers. However the entry for Server2 is added to the config database and I can allocate roles to it. I just cannot administer it becasue the connect to existing database failed. Any thoughts, has anyone ever got this to work and has a workaround for me (note the workaround would have to be supportable from the customer viewpoint) best regards Neil Hodgkinson Tag: windows Sharepoint Services Installation Tag: 58231

    - Completely Anonymous Survey in SharePoint 2003 We have been asked to create a survey that does not capture usernames and want to use SharePoint for this process. The anonymous survey option in SharePoint is setup such that the username is captured while taking the survey but is not displayed to the average user. The administrator of the Site still has rights to chage this setting and find out who the user was. Is there any way to make a completely anonymous survey in SharePoint 2003? It would seem that there should be some way to not have SharePoint capture this data but I have not been able to find it. Has anyone else tried to do this?     - Sharepoint 2001 crawl problems A couple of days ago we started to get the following error when performing full update on web site content source on our Intranet - The server has been marked as unavailable, and all access to this server has failed. The server is probably down or disconnected. Access attempts won't resume for 10 minutes. I can find absolutely no information relating to this error. Has anyone else experienced this?     - Host WSS separate from SPS? Hi, I have a small server farm deployment of SPS; one SPS web front end and one SQL Server. We are not using WSS (only the parts that are necessary for SPS), but the plan is to begin using it. I am wondering if it is possible to host the WSS sites on a completely different web server, but somehow connect them to the portal sites directory anyway? So, I don't want a SPS deployment with two web front ends, I'd rather would like one SPS web front end and one WSS web front end. Anyone has some ideas? I have written a c# implementation of a file browser that connects to Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 via it web services.     - Drop down for Task listing Hi, I added a task listing to my SPS 2003. When I'm going to assign a task to a user the drop down to assign task to a site user is empty. I noticed that if I log in to the site and then go to the task, then that user name will be added to the drop down. Is there any other way to populate the drop down?     - Header & Footer We have a header and footer we want to have standard across all pages of our sharepoint site. .dwt templates just don't work because you have to have all the pages open when you modify the template then save each page individually. you can't use the asp include statement which would be ideal. what is the easiest way to include a header, sidebar and footer that will carry through on every page and only needs to be changed in one spot?     - Re: Files Missing in SPS 2003 You might want to check to see if content approval is turned on. If it is, the files will not show up in the web view until they are approved.     - Permissions...Where Did I Go Wrong!?!? Our department is new to SPS, but are none the less moving forward, and I have been given responsibility for a Sub Area for my department. In it, I have created a Survey that I am directing the entire company to from a link in an email that goes out after service calls have been closed. I have added a Domain Group with the following sub area permissions: View Area View Pages Add Items Edit Items Delete Items And they have no trouble completing the survey and submitting the results. When they return to the sub area's main page, however, they have an Action menu that gives them access to 'Edit Page' and 'Manage Content'. How can I simply host the survey, collect responses and return them to the main Sub Area page without them having the ability to modify anything? I have played with sooooooo many permission settings I feel I have lost touch with reality. Any help with permissions or suggestions on alternate solutions is appreciated.     - RE: Unable to add site directory sites to index Hi, I am having a problem with certain wss sites under the site directory not being accessible when added to the index. Basically I do a full update of both portal and Non-portal content and i get the following error in the portal content gatherer log http://portal/sites/repository "The address could not be found, (0x80041221 - URL could not be resolved. The host may be unavailable, or the proxy settings are not configured correctly on the index server. To change proxy settings, from SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration click Configure Search and Indexing. In the list of index servers, choose the server name and edit the proxy settings on the Server Settings page. )" I thought that the sites in the site directory should be included in non-portal content? These sites were created or added through the site directory and i checked the box to include them in search results. They are listed in the approved sites for crawling. Also a site I had created for testing under the site directory is also giving the above error eventhough i have removed it and verified that it's deleted using the stsadm tool...     - Alerts I recently changed the name of one of our Portals URL's and since then I have been able to find places to make sure all links and other parts pointed to the new URL. However, users that previously had alert setup are getting emails of something changing and it is point back to the old URL.     - Will SPS work for me? Hi All, I need to setup a website/support website for a product of ours. The basic website will be very simple, few pages, company, news, what the products are, etc, etc. I think I can use SPS for that part using the webpage part of things. Not really the concern there anyway. What is more important is the support site I need to setup. It needs to be behind a password (ideally) and the clients need to be able to read everything but not uploaded or change anything except the discussion boards. SPS seems to be able to do everything I need it to for setting up the support site, (much like a knowledge base type site), except for the discussions board, if the clients only have read access they cannot post anything to them, if they have contrib access then they can upload stuff to the rest of the site.     - Restore Windows Sharepoint 2003 via B and R utility to new server I am trying to restore a backup copy of our portal to another server. When the 2003 Backup Restore utility. I select the .xml file ok. I then try and select the sitedbs or index file. It is says 'cannot be selected' under the restore.     - Administrator Cannot Access Document Library I have read variations of this issue, but have not located this specific case. Neither a SharePoint user in the Administrator group, nor a local Windows Administrator or Domain Admin can access the document libraries within the Portal Site (appears to be the AllItems.aspx page). Windows Authentication is activated when a Document Library link is clicked, and after three attempts to provide credentials the generic "Access Denied" page is displayed. Other symptoms to narrow down the issue: - I can successfully navigate through the areas and create document libraries (although the confirmation fails. - If I add a Document Library Web Part to an area page, expand it so items within the Library are displayed, I can successfully upload documents. - This portal site was created via the SharePoint Portal Server Data Backup and Restore mechanism. I have found the option to perform this required installation. Problem
resolved.
