Hello,

I am curious on what the differences between sharepoint services and
sharepoint portal are? I am also curious if you can replication sharepoint
portal between two different sql2k5 boxes. Thanks for any information.

The major difference is that Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are free.
You have to purchase licenses for SharePoint Portal Server (SPS). WSS is
included in SPS and you dont have to install it separately. You can think of
WSS as a subset of SPS.

Just to clarify for Jake (I know that you know, S. S.)

You can install WSS separately (then it's the free product) but you do NOT
install it separately if you are going to install SPS 2003.

... and for the replication question the answer is that you can cluster
your SQL Server 2005 machines containing the SPS 2003 (or WSS) databases but
neither product supports replication in the Notes sense.

Thanks guys for the information. I am still a little confused on the SPS
2003 provides that WSS doesn't. Why would someone purchase the product if
WSS is free!?! Is there a comparison chart somewhere. Thanks again.
