    - Cannot add sub-folder and document Hi. I have backward document library installed in my sharepoint 2003 When I add a sub-folder or document, it occured an error says "An error occurred while processing your request. Please contact your system administrator for this server". Not all of my network computer occur that error, there is still some computer work properly. Anyone have an idea?     - Check In/Out Document in DocLib Hi I am trying to handle document's check in/check out programatically. There are three methods available to handle document checkin/out: 1. OnCheckIn() 2. OnCheckOut() 3. OnUnCheckOut() When checking in document, we have an option to check in changes saved to the document, but keep the document checked out. How can we handle this situation programatically? Explanation: If user selects first option (Check in document) when checking in the document, we can handle this event in OnCheckIn(). If user selects third option (Discard changes and undo check out) when checking in the document, we can handle this event in OnUndoCheckOut() BUT if user selects second option (Check in changes saved to this document, but keep the document checked out), how can we handle this event??     - Email notification of recurring events Is there any way to send out an email alert to a user to remind them of a recurring event? It seems like the only way to set up an email alert is if something has CHANGED, not that something is PENDING (or daily or weekly, but that's not what I want).     - RESTORE IDEX ERROR: Cannot find the path specified... I backed up my production SPS environment with the Backup and Restore Utility, created the xml file and when I go to restore the databases and the index to my development server (no current portal site configured), the db's restore ok but I get "ERROR: Cannot find the path specified" when the INDEX file tries to restore. The same account was used for both the backup and restore. The backup was done from another SQL Server on the network, the restore in the development environment is to a local installation of SQL Server on the SPS Development Server.     - Manage Securtiy - View, insert, edit, delete listings not working i'm trying to permission a user to an area to be able to use the 'Add News' feature. When i add them and give them the 'View, insert, edit, delete listings' rights they can only View and Insert a listing. They can't edit or delete the listing once it's created.     - Subsite with main site Within the main sharepoint site that we have we have created a couple of "subsites". We were able to apply a theme (same as main site) to our first subsite but the last 2 that we have created we are unable to apply a theme to them.     - User with Same rights can't do the same thing I have a problem where I have two users with exactly the same rights on the sharepoint portal server can't do the same thing. The difference is that one of the users is a domain admin and can edit the page.     - Security Question about inheritance Good day ! We are planning to roll out SharePoint in the near future. I inherited this project from someone else and now am trying to get up to speed. We are running Portal Server and Window SharePoint service. We will mostly use SharePoint for document management. What we are doing is creating a SharePoint service site for each client. Each time we create a new site for a new client, IT DOESN'T inherit any security.... I have to manually enter the users... Is there a way for my site to inherit security ? We basically want everyone to have the same rights except for the select few that will have the rights to create new sites. Also, is there a way to do group based security ?     - Different search results by regional settings clientside When we perform a search on our portal we get different search results when we change the regional settings on our client. This happens mainly when we search for items with a '.' in the search keywords, e.g. 'www.site.com'. With the regional settings on English (united States) we get more results then when we search on Dutch (Netherlands). We have an english SPS version, which runs on a server with Dutch regional settings. Does anyone have a clue why exactly the results are different, and how we may solve this problem?     - RFI - HOW TO config SPS2003 Doc Lib to edit NON-Office docs? Greetings all, Does anyone know how to configure SPS2003 Doc Libaries so that you can check-out and edit NON-Office documents? You CAN upload an MS Word document to a doc library. You CAN check out an MS Word document from the library. You DO see a pop-up menu choice "edit in MS Office Word" when attempting to edit this checked-out document. You CAN go through the same process for a spreadsheet, and you WILL see "edit in MS Office Excel" for an editing program choice from your pop-up menu... HOWEVER, You CAN upload (say) a CSS file to a doc library. You CAN check out that CSS file from the library. BUT You do NOT see ANY pop-up menu choice for EDITING this document! Does anyone have suggestions/solutions re: HOW to configure SPS2003 or its doc libraries so that you can CHOOSE which application you wish to associate with NON-Office files?     - Search Problem I created a more narrow scope for searching in my portal. I have a portal resource named "Web". I set the scop for this resource only. When I execute the search by selecting the new scope from the dropdown next to the search box, I only get accurate results when logged in as the portal administrator. Hi All, actually it shouldn't be too difficult but I can't get it to work ;-( I would like to grant the permissions for a user to manage content that is on the Homepage of the SharePoint Portal. this user Dieser Benutzer (our secretary) must not be in the SPP-Usergroup "Administrators"!     - Issues with attachments within sharepoint once the site was opened to the Internet. I have an issue with Sharepoint and some of the links within the sites. At first, Sharepoint was only available to the intranet. Everything worked fine when it was accessed by "serversp.domain.com". Now, since it is turned to the Internet and are using the domain name "sps.domain.com" we are having issues with opening attachments. For instance, I can click on a Word document, it takes 30 seconds for a message to pop up stating "could not open 'http://serversp/sites/Demo/ccc/ie1/CS 1111/Forms/template.doc'." I can see that the link is incorrect. It is the intranet netbios name and not the Internet DNS name. Once I click OK to this message it appear to open fine. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.     - Modifying MySite template I want to modify the MySite template such that when a user clicks on My Site, by default it adds a web part page and includes a custom web part. I had done something similar to this on a WSS site by modifying the ONET.XML file. I tried to do the same thing by modifying the file located at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\SPSMSITE At that location, I added a msoutlook.aspx page (this is the web part page) and modified the ONET.XML to include a web part in this page. Looking up in Internet this problem, think that maybe the source of this problem is that in the origina enviroment the sql server has service pack 3A installed while in th target has only service pack 3, so the next movement is to instal service pack 3A in the target enviroment I have seen in your message that Ray had the same version of servic pack in his sql servers and instead of that the problem stil appears, so maybe if I update the service pack in sql target server think that the problem will still appear (from Ray`s experience) Anyway I'm going to update it The other different parameter between original and target enviromen is the version of the Windows server 2003 in front-end servers.     - Guide to Reinstall - Migrate SPS 2003 to SQL 2005 (CTP) Just succeeded in setting up my server in running SPS 2003 on SQL 2005 September CTP and I thought it is usefull to share it with you here. The task was to use the same kit of hardware and have SPS and SQL2005 on the same machine. Here is how it is done. 1. You run the BackUp and Restore Utility of SPS in order to back up your site and you save it in another server. 2. Remove the server from the domain 3. Setup your Windows 2003 (prefferably with SP1 included). 4. You may join the domain during setup - long gone are the issues of not finding the domain etc (assuming that your DC is also W2k3 SP1) (4a. You follow the steps of your Hardware Manufacturer in my case HP i.e. the post installation steps of SmartStart 7.40) 5. You apply all the post SP1 patches (18 to date). 6. You add the role of application server to the server through the wizard - enabling ASP.NET but not front page extensions. 7. You add other services that you may like i.e. SMTP etc. and do work such as setting the page file, process priority, formating your data partition to disk allocation size of 64k (it really does improve performance!) and you reboot. 8. You set up your SQL 2005 Enterprise by selecting all default options - apart from the location of your data files (to that partition that you formated with that 64k allocation size which is the optimum) and following the completion you reboot (just to ensure that everything is working). It is worthwhile to not use SQL security - Just leave it to windows authentication and start the service to a local user account that you create in your system (SQL -depending on your logging- can be quite demanding on the AD if you use a domain account). And here is the juicy part. 10. You download WSS WITH SP2 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B922B28D-806A-427B-A4C5-AB0F1AA0F7F9&displaylang=en and you install it by selecting option two (member of a Server farm - do not install MSDE since it wont be used). In the wizzard that will start you just stop after the set up of the first page. i.e. the page that you select the worker process identity and the authentication type which MUST BE KERBEROS. 11. Press next, cmd iisreset and OK. You are finished with your WSS set up. 12. Go to your SQL 2005 and give full permissions to the user that is running the application pool you created before. This is the user that will be used to modify later on the config database that you will create. 12. You insert your WPS 2003 CD. It detects that you have WSS it will give you a warning about the unlinking of your installation (which you duly ignore) and goes ahead with the installation of the core engine. 13. Needless to say that you wont choose MSDE installation and that you will point your installation to your SQL 2005 instance, you will chose another partition for the Data and that you will use the user you created before in order to create the SPS_config Database (use the same user to be sure that you have the password right ;) and that he has permissions to even be databasecreator. 14. The installation will finish and will present you with the first pages of set up of the portal. You go ahead to select the user that will run the application (the one you made earlier), define the email settings and choose the topology (i.e. index, site, search all in the same box). 15. Very crucial. You close your IE window right here and you apply the SPS 2003 SP2 which you can find here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=171DC9A7-B4BA-4759-BD64-6B7D851A97EF&displaylang=en You are almost done. 16. You create in your IIS the site where your sharepoint site will sit (in case you dont use the default - as many paranoid people like myself avoid using) and your provide the appropriate host header. 17.You move your backup data from the server that you save them to the partition that wont host your actuall server data (i.e. you copy it to C if on D is where your data will actually be placed - it is very important this it will save you quite a few minutes). 18. Now you run the SPS Back Up and Restore tool and you restore your databases and the site setting to the very final detail (users, user sites everything gets migrated). Attention though here. If you have huge databases (in my case the site database was tens of Gigs) the restore of the database can take hours. In the first half an hour you may see the progress bar stuck in 0. You will also see that the SQL Data Folder doesnot increases further but... you have to wait. Dont ruin here guys - watch it. You just wait and your take comfort from the fact that the hard disks are working like mad. 19. After that you are... DONE! The site will reindex for a few more minutes (dont get nuts with the CPU in the 80s-100) and then you enjoy! You enjoy integration with reporting services of SQL 2005, you enjoy speed that lightening comperated to the SQL 2000 - well worth the effort.. That was my experience. It may not be yours however. For that reason in order to be save you take backup of your 3 databases and also you detach them before you do the formating of your previous system. Best of luck. I think my server has a lot of problems...
I have discovered these after I have moved my catalog...

first the index doesn'tworks anymore.
second, when I try to reset the account passwords (under the server farm
page) the answer is "Error accessing database..." (using a named pipe
connection) or "Verify that the user is in the Power Users group..." (using
a TCP/IP connection)
Also I see SQL sever login failed errors! but the account can access the
server using any other tool.

does it possible to change the database server name? (I want to force the
usage of an SQL Server alias)
this option is not accessible under the "specify configuration database
settings" web page.

I have repaired the portal server installation, but this changes nothing.

what can I do?
