Hi Jaco,
I recommend to never create many subfolders (and absolutely not >25000) :)
since they cause the following issues:
Having so many subfolders in a library makes the library look like a file
share cabinet..
Searching for documents is a nightmare, since we are depending on users to
place documents onto the correct folder.
Most of the time, the folder structure and naming convention used do confuse
users.
SharePoint has a limitation of 260 characters for the path of a document,
which causes users to rename folders and reduce the number of subfolders,
hence, completely confusing users when it is time to find data.
SharePoint limitations:
Item Limit
Number of items in a list 10M
Number of documents in a library 2M
Number of documents in a folder 2K
Maximum document file size 2GB
This question deserves a complete discussion of it's own..
