    - Discussion Board and Outlook Integration ? I want to try something like this. In our office people use Outlook for e-mail exchange and they have lot of discussion in those e-mails. They want to post them to the portal. I wanted to try this solution. I will ask the users to cc each discussion to a public folder. I will pick those mails from public folder and post them into discussion board. Before I try this Is this a feasible solution. I am not able to programmatically access discussion board.     - My Site Hi, I would like to have some type of Library with Users folders in it. I would like to put personal stuff in each user folder such as paystubs... therefore, I do not want other users to be able access those folders. User X can only access folder X. The administrator can go to all folders. And if possible, other folders are invisible to User X. I think this is kind of what MySite does.     - External access to Internal Servers through Sharepoint I have a Sharepoint Server set up for external access and it works fine using AD credentials. However, it will not display content from other servers in the farm, it gives an action cancelled error message. All of the pages display fine from the inside, but it doesn't seem to pass the credentials on when connecting from the outside.     - Central Admin IIS Setup Options Hi, We are using a medium server farm topology with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP1. For the two front-end Web/Search servers, we are using a hardware load balancer to distribute traffic evenly between each of them. I have already used the stsadm.exe tool to manually set the port being used for the Central Administration site so that it is the same on all of our SPS servers. My question is this: My IT support team would like to eliminate using this admin port, and would like to know if we can move the Central Admin site on each server to its own IP address so that we can give it a unique DNS name...So, is it possible to move the Central Admin site to a different IP address on the same server, or does it have to be on the same IP as the SPS Portal site? Hypothetical Example: Current: SPS Portal Home: http://sps.mycompany.com/ (10.1.0.1) SPS Central Admin: http://sps.mycompany.com:10165/ (10.1.0.1:10165) Desired: SPS Portal Home: http://sps.mycompany.com/ (10.1.0.1) SPS Portal Admin: http://spsadmin.mycompany.com/ (10.1.0.2) I have also considered using host headers as a workaround if SharePoint will not allow me to move the Central Admin site to a separate IP address.     - Setting metadata date fields in SPS 2003 I've been able to set custom fields (metadata) on documents in SPS 2003 by doing the following: file.Item["<field name>"]="<field value>"; file.Item.Update(); Where file is a SPFile object that contains the document. However, I have a field that is a date field and when I try to set this field, I receive the error "Specified cast is invalid." From what I understood, the metadata in SPS 2003 is all strings, so I'm not sure why I am getting this error. The document library was imported from SPS 2001 using SPIN/SPOUT so perhaps that might have something to do with it. Can anyone shed any light on this? Do I need to cast the field value to something?     - Alerts firing inappropriately I have several users (including my developer) who are receiving unwanted "spam" alerts from items that they have already recieved alerts on.     - MySite and Outlook Calendar and Task Newbie question here. I set up MySite for the first time. I'm trying to get my outlook calendar and tasks to display on my site. I've set the mail server address to https://mail.microsoft.com/exchange When I open MySite, the OWO logon page is displayed in the Calender (and tasks) pane, but it doesn't allow me to log on. I type my domain\alias and password but when I hit enter it clears my entries and keeps me on the login page. I know I'm typing the password correctly. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.     - Failed Profile import with no error messages... I have added 8 new uesers to my Active Directory on my Domain Controler.     - Project Server 2003 and Portal Server and all "Sites" We have recently set up portal server (and WSS) and project server 2003 on the same server. The Project Server WSS is on port 8083. How can we list (on the SPS home page or another page) all the Workspaces / Sites on the Project Server 2003 WSS install and ensure that they are being cataloged effectively. I have played around with mysites but this seems to only work with sites created from that interface. What would be good for users is to have a view of all the sites they have access to...     - 'Alert Me' security problem I set up a list of people's holidays. The only view that is available is one where it presents you with your listing that matches your login name. That way I can create a large list, but people will only be able to see their listing. All other views are removed, with permissions to view only. This all worked fine, until I experimented by seeing what would happen if I created an alert on this list. Any additions are then emailed to the user, where they can see the other staffs holiday details. I guess this is only to be expected.     - external user - NT logon requested again when a document is accessed My sharepoint application has two types of users. Internal (ones that work in my company) and external (ones that dont). When an external users open a document their NT user credentials are again requested by the document. This is clearly a very bad thing as the user has already logged on once.     - webpart classresources error! Hi We have a problem of placing the class resource files. As our webpart is complext webpart which is deal with database through webservice. We have created a usercontrol web application. and through javascript LoadService we get data. now, if we create this usercontrol to webpart, where do we need to place the class resources. We have followed the msdn document which says you need to place in wpresouces of SPS if the assembly is placed on the bin directory. (I hope including aspx pages,ascx files javascripts, images should be placed in Wpresources) we are getting error after placing the webpart classresources in wpresources as assembly refers as webapplication/images/myimage.gif, and now, its 'wpresources/images/myimages.gif' somehow we could manage the image folders. but javascript loadwebservices still gives error since we place in in wpresouces. I have tried with LoadControl('/wpresources/webapplication/usercontrol.ascx') and built also. still gives problem. Can somebody gives clue on how we have fix this issue? Basically I've configured the MySite so there are 2 webparts - 'News for You' and 'Links for You'... The news for you works fine.. any news content is pushed into the mysite under the relevant audiences..... the same cant be said for links..     - SPS on a Cluster? We're in the early stages of deploying SPS, and judging by initial team response, it's likely to become a critical element in our methodology. In response to an earlier post, it was pointed out to me that SPS backups can only be restored on a machine with the same name, same IP address, and same disk configuration as that on which it was made. This troubles me a bit, since I have no way of verifying that my backups are good until I actually need them, correct? (Well, I suppose I could set up a stand-alone server, but then I'd have to keep it off the network to avoid contention, which would make moving data a pain.) So, what we were wondering is whether we could set up SPS to run on a Windows 2003 cluster. (Even if that wouldn't solve our backup validation dilemma, we'd feel safer knowing we had a fully redundant configuration. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.     - WSDL missing on personal sites Hi I'm trying to write some client side JavaScript to add an intranet site to a users "My Links" list. I'm using the web service.htc behaviour from Microsoft and I can use webservices on from the main portal site or using the http://[protal url]/MySite/_vti_bin/lists.asmx web service but when I try to use http://[portal url]/sites/personal/[username]/_vti_bin/lists.asmx web service it is missing the WSDL. The MySite webservice doesn't seem return any lists with the GetListCollection method. When I go the /sites/personal web service I can click on the "Service Description" link and I get a 404 error. Has anyone else encountered this, or can anyone suggest a nice way of adding an "add to my links" button to an HTML page? No. The account must be a member of the Power Users group on this server.
The account must have the Database Creators and Security Administrators
