    - SPS2003 upgrade from trial to full - modifications lost I've found in the docs the following: "Some customizations are lost when you upgrade from an evaluation version of SharePoint Portal Server 2003. These include modifications to template files for areas and sites, as well as modifications to the cascading style sheets (.css) files used for the portal site." 1. Does anyone know of a definitive list of modifications lost? 2. The instructions detail that you can backup the css files and overwrite the upgraded versions - can the same be done with the templates? (Ours will be heavily modified.)     - How to cache the "Page Viewer" web part? ADVERTISEMENT Hello, In SPS v 2.0, is there any way by which we can cache the "Page Viewer" web part (also, the other default web parts), which comes as a default web part with the SPS 2003? As per my current findings, only the developer can implement caching options using partCahceRead(), partCacheWrite() and partCacheInvalidate() methods. The Admins can turn ON/OFF caching in web.config and specify "CacheObject", or "Database" or "None" as cache storage.     - SPS 2001 backup/restore issues Hi, First off: happy new year to all! I've made a backup of SharepointServerA (SPPS 2001, Windows Server 2000) using the command line utility 'msdmback.vbs' as follows: cscript msdmback.vbs /b d:\spps-a.bak /v servername I've setup a clean install of SharePoint 2001 on a Windows 2000 Server machine. When I try to restore the previously made backup, the following errors arise: Error: An error occurred during restore. See the event log for more details. ErrNo: 80070005 Desc: Access is denied. Source: MSSearch.EmbeddedGatherMgr.1 I figured this is a username/password issue. However, stating various login credentials will not help. I can't find anything in the event log.     - SharePoint 2003, FrontPage 2003 & static IP's Like many others, I've run up against the SOAP issue documented in KB 830342 since my SPS2003 farm is running SSL-only & using static IP's for each portal. I seem to remember mention somewhere of a workaround that involved hosting a "mirror" non-SSL/non-static-IP portal site that pointed to the same databases as the real thing and would thus allow FrontPage editing of the portal sites.     - SharePoint 2003 Backup/Restore of Multiple Indexes Like Bryan Jackson's "Sharepoint 2003 Backup Options" post, I'm experimenting with workarounds for document- level restore ability for my SPS2003 medium server farm (3 portals; many My Sites; many SSSC "team sites"). I'm using CommVault's Galaxy for v1 doc-level backups; like other vendors they don't expect a v2 doc-level agent for awhile yet. I'm currently working out the specific steps for restoring an entire portal to another machine (complicated by the fact that I'm running shared services). I can get everything back except the indexes - that portion errors with a "could not find destination" message... so my guess is that there are some additional pieces I need to have set up within the restored portal prior to restoring the indexes.     - Network Authentication Issue There is this Sharepoint web portal which is running on a Win 2003 Ent Server with IIS 6. This portal is also a AD which runs DNS. Clients access this portal from across diff platforms including Win 98, Win 2K Pro and Win XP. When clients open the portals from their IE browsers, they are prompted for username, password and domainname. After they enter the information, they are allowed access to the portal. The account info is in the AD. I have notcied this only on XP clients that even after they enter the authentication info, they are prompted again and again for the authentication info. If I press 'Esc' then it still lets me in. But this tiresome process repeats for any link I click on the portal. I tried to chnage some of the security settings in IE to low and even added to the portal link to the trusted zone, but that didnt help. This problem is also not application related and it happens almost always on Win XP clients. On the server also, I changed/reduced some security settings in group policy. I also went into IIS and added the rule so that authentication happens across all available domains (which is actually not required as the AD and IIS are on the same machine).     - Multi Language Portal? SPS2003/WSS I wonder what would be the best way to create and maintain a multi language web portal (on *one* server)? The idea is to have a top-level welcome page, on which I could choose among two languages. As an "author", I create a folder A underneath folder B and add published documents to folder A. When I try to move folder A from folder B to folder C, I receive the following error: "You do not have permission to move this file or folder into the new folder, or there are network problems preventing authentication from the server."     - Portal Administrators Hi, and happy new year to all, I have an urgent question; my client has noticed that members of the "Domain Admins" group on Active Directory have "Administrator" privileges on the Sharepoint portal although they are not added to the users list on the Portal (not even as Readers).     - Gatherer errors Had the search service working fine, then I deleted a portal site on a test machine that was using the same content databases as my real portal. Now the portal crawls are not working correctly.     - Sharepoint 2003 Backup Options I'm trying to come up with an intermediate solution for backing up sharepoint 2003 at the individual file level. After contacting Veritas (our backup solution), it appears that their agent for 2003 is not due out untill Q3. It appears either MS or Veritas realy dropped the ball on getting the backup solution developed. Anyway, in the mean time untill we get that agent, what is the best way to restore individual files from a sharepoint backup? Restore to a "backup" site then copy the file from that site and re-upload the the live portal? Or is there any way to backup web folders? Then I could backup the document libraries to disk and use our normal Veritas agent from there. Use backwords compatible document libraries then upgrade to the SQL document libraries?     - Screen size I have added enough listings to my site that the tabs extend beyond the screen. As a result my web parts extend beyond the screen. Is there a way to manage the size of the web part to make sure it always fits on the screen? As an example when I view my tasks in a calendar view I have to scroll to the right to see Friday and Saturday. Also...     - Administering Notifications for users I have come across 3 clients who have asked if SharePoint 2003 allows an administrator to set up a Notification for a user (ie, set up a document notificaiton when a document is changed). Their proposed intent is to set these up in SharePoint to replace the manual email that would generally go out to notify users of changes to key documents. Although this circumvents the concept of "pull" notification, it seems like a good enough reason to have this feature to me. Although SharePoint only seems to allow an Administrator to delete notifications for users, not add them. Has anyone seen a way to add this functionality?     - SSL FQDN in Subscription E-mail Notices I need to configure SharePoint Portal Server 2001 to send the subscription e-mails with the url references using the FQDN with SSL. I am aware of the procedure for adding the propery to the workspaces folder to enable this, but SSL is not being recognized in that the url is coming out http in stead of https.     - stsadm.exe & SSL I have an SPSv2 "medium server farm" with 5 servers: 2 NLB'ed web front ends; 2 clustered SQL back ends; and 1 job/index server. One of the biggest issues I face is restoring small amounts of data to team sites and/or personal sites when someone does an "oops" & dumps a file or folder that's critical. It appears that the only way to restore things on a more granular basis - currently - is to restore the site in question to an alternate location & then copy back the deleted stuff. However, I can't get the command to work. One caveat is that all our sites are SSL only (& no anonymous), and I keep getting back a "server instance not found - please specify the server's address and port" message whenver I try to run an STSADM command. Does anyone know if STSADM works with SSL? And... if anyone has used this tool to either enumerate sites on a server and/or backup/restore individual sites, can you post the exact syntax you used?     - Can I create a virtual directory under a SharePoint site? I have a SharePoint portal with a registered URL of msalliance.cgey.com. I want to be able to create a virtual directory called test under this site so I can browse to msalliance.cgey.com/test. Since the Test site is not a portal, I do not want it to be listed in the SharePoint site, but since it relates to the msalliance, I want it to be a subsite of that URL. I cannot browse to the Test site, it seems that you cannot accomplish this on a website that has been extended for SharePoint. Is there a way around this?     - Get inside \personal\user\.... from WebPart Hello I need to access the lists which are available to me under \personal\user from a WebPart. Suppose inside MySite i create a new List say XYZ. Now manipulating the object model via a webpart i cant seem to find a way to get to \personal\user lists. All i get to is \MySite\Lists.. When i debug my webpart i do see XYZ in the available lists but when i see its DefaultViewUrl i get "http://localhost:90/MySite/Lists/XYZ/AllItems.aspx" whereas io need a link to the actual list which belongs only to userA. i.e "http://localhost:90/personal/userA/lists/XYZ/AllItems.aspx".     - Confirmation and Automatic Deletion Settings - How to?? I had default settings on my SPS 2003 - "start sendig after 90 days" and "Automatically delete the site collection if use is not confirmed after sending 4 notices". SPS sent first notices to users after 90 days (OK) Some of users did not confirm (normal - they are Users :) SPS had automatically deleted personal sites after 1 notice (without confirmation). Why? I have successfully added users to the profile database from an active
directory.
When trying to add these users to the site i cant find the. When going to
"Site Settings -> Manage Users -> Add Users" and entering either the users
email-adress or DOMAIN\name i dont get the correct information of the user.
The same thing if I try to search for the users in "Select users and groups"
