    - How to assign task to multiple owners or people? Does anyone know how to Assign a task to multiple owners using Site Definition? I mean by default AssignedTo field allows single owner. But it can be changed to allow multiple owners from List Settings. I want to achieve the same by changing site definition files. Some config settings in some file dictates if this field will allow multiple owners or not. I just don't know where it is. Does any one know where or which file do I have to modify for this?     - Setting up SharePoint 2007 Incoming Email without using in Exchange Server. Hi, There is currently not alot out there on configuring sharepoint 2007 document libraries to receive email. I found one very useful document that explains how to configure incoming email with Exchange server 2003, but nothing on how to set this up with just SMTP. Does anyone out there know if there is a way to configure sharepoint 2007 to accept incoming emails to document libraries and lists without Exchange server, or is Exchange a requirement?     - Restarting IIS after creating a new site Does anyone know why I have to restart IIS after creating new sites? When I create a new site then go to it, it always says "service not availible".     - Windows Authentication MOSS 2007 I am having problems logging into MOSS 2007 sites when I invite users to a site. This is a fresh install on a windows 2003 server. I have connected to a sql database and I have successfully created a ssp site. when I add a user, sharepoint successfully send an email to the user. However when the user clicks on the link in the email they get prompted for a user name and password. they enter thier username and password and get a you are not authorized to view this page. I have windows authentication checked in IIS, and even created an spn in active directory so that the sharepoint server could speak to the sql server. What am I missing?     - MOSS 2007 Menus So I've installed the beta and everything is working just dandy! After I installed the portal and created a Site Collection, using the Portal Enterprise Template, of course, I see a collection of "Tabs" at the top (i.e. Portal, Document Center, News, Reports, etc.). So far so good... When I go to create a new "tab" via creating a new site that inherits the Portal permissions and uses the "Top Link Bar" from its parent, I get a new tab (lets call it DepartmentA) - I used the Blank Site template. However, even if I don't have any content in it, DepartmentA still displays "Pictures, Lists, Discussion, Sites, Surveys, etc." as a dropdown off of the DepartmentA tab. I don't like this as it seems strange to me that it would do this. Instead, what I want is a list of the sites that I create under DepartmentA. For instance, my portal structure looks like this: Home -DepartmentA -SubSite1 -SubSite2 And so on - that's what I want my menuing structure to display. I've figured out that I can manually change this, but I don't want to do this every single time that I create a subsite off of my portal. Is there a way around this?     - Adding Trusted NT Domain users We have recently merged with a company who is still running an NT domain (upgrade to our AD planned for Jan). In the meantime we need them to start accessing documents within SPS 2003. Now I have them all as contacts with the Exchange Alias and AD Description as DOMAIN_NT\user What I would like is when I add the user user@domain.com it would then population the User Name field with the Alias (All the local AD aliases are the user names), would this be possible? The reason is there is no standard format for the remote users, and I do not want a few hundred people here guessing a few hundred names there. And putting out a spreasheet with the details on it.     - 2007 Office files on SPS2003 for Office 2003 users Hi all i have some difficulties with new office file formats like DOCX. I have some users running Office 2007 and they found those new fileformat very interesting and cool, and they want to use them instead of old formats. But all other users have Office 2003. I know there is a connector from MS to read those files. But using that is difficult, for example when you want to open docx in office 2003 from versioning document library and you can't save it with the same name :( Anyone having troubles with that?     - MS Office 2003 Web Component Errors I have several sharepoints that I manage and one of them has a office pivot view that I have created. It takes data from a list on the same sharepoint and presents it graphically. We have been using it for about 6 months. I have a Windows XP sp2 laptop that had Office 2003 installed on it. I recently updated it to IE7 and installed Office 2007 beta along side 2003. Now when I go to the sharepoint pivot view I get an indescriptive error: Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components Error (Title bar of the window) "failed to get data.     - MOSS 2007 Strange errors during backup process Using MOSS2007Beta2 install instructions from the MOSSDepoynment.doc except putting SSP service account into the WSS_Farm_Administrators windows group (bugfix for the unabling to make a shedule for crawling and MySite creating). The next problem appears during backup: I read backup manual from MS. It did not help me. 1) Choose Operations/Perform backup. 2) Choose the whole Farm backup (I have 1 computer installation with separate SQL2005 server) 3) Full backup to \\developer\portalBackup\Full 4) After the job is started the history shows the entryies like this: Backup Method Full Warnings 0 Errors 6 Failure Message Object SharedServices_Search_DB failed in event OnBackup. For more information, see the error log. The error log contains the messages like this: Object SharePoint_Config failed in event OnBackup. For more information, see the error log. SqlException: Cannot open backup device '\\developer\portalBackup\Full\spbr0000\0000000E.bak'. Operating system error 5(error not found). BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. But there are some files in that dir, created by the backup process (5mb approx), so there should be no problems with access rights. This is my own machine, so there is much free space...     - SPS 2001 cannot get Coordinator rights I have installed SPS 2001 on a virtual pc where I am local administrator. In Sharepoint Portal Server Administration I assign the role of Coordinator to myself in a workspace. However, I am still unable to administer users and roles in the workspace.     - SPS Search and multiple keywords (.doc / .pdf) Hello, I'm experiencing some behavioral differences in the SPS 2003 search function between .DOC and .PDF documents. I set up the following experiment: - I start with one MS Word .doc file and one Adobe .pdf file. - I assign the same set of three keywords to each file by opening the file in its respective application and modifying the 'Keywords' metadata property. Assume that the keywords are as follows (without the quotation marks): "wordone; wordtwo; wordthree" - I upload both files to a single document library in SharePoint. - I set up a search scope to search only the document library in which these two files reside. - I perform a full re-indexing of my portal content. - I perform a simple search for each of the keywords from the home page of the portal. Results: The word document is returned in all cases, regardless of whether I search for "wordone", "wordtwo", or "wordthree". The PDF document is returned ONLY when I search for the first keyword in the list (in this case, "wordone"). I am using the PDF+ iFilter from iFilterShop.     - MOSS 2007 B2 Installation Fails I'm installing MOSS 2007 Beta 2 on a Windows 2003 VPC (non-DC) and am getting the error (as shown in the log) listed below. The VPC has all the requirements (IIS, ASP.NET 2.0, WorkFlow, etc....). Looks to me like it has to do with MSXML so I installed MSXML 6.0 but still get this error. Thanks!     - SharePoint Anonymous Access Problem Hello, I am running in to a problem where I am not able to access the http://<servername> page. I get the error: "You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area. To change your rights, contact the site administrator." I have used the Server Admin username/password, System username/password etc. with no avail. I use to get this error unable to access the Central Administration and http://<servername> when I first setup SharePoint Portal Server 2003 but was able to fix it by going into IIS --> <servername> --> web sites --> Default Web Site --> properties --> Directory Security --> Edit Access control and turning off Enable anonymous access and unchecking everything for Authenticated access except Basic Authentication (password is sent in clear text). After that I was able to access the Central Administration page and http://<servername> page with the admin username/password. I have already set up multiple sites and now wanting to turn Anonymous Access back on so that everyone on the network can access without having to add them all to the user list on the server itself, with only having a few which can have Admin rights to the sites for updates and changes. Went back into IIS --> Directory Security and put the check mark back in for Enable anonymous access. All permissions are all setup with the sites and is working great with anonymous access turned back on but I am now unable to access the http://<servername> page again. Turn anonymous access off and I can access the page fine with the admin username/password. I am still able to access the Central Administration fine with anonymous on. Changing the Authenticated access from Integrated Windows Authentication to Basic Authentication (password is sent in clear text) seemed to fix that problem. Current server setup is Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition w/ SP1, IIS 6.0, ASP.NET 2.0, SQL Server 2000 w/ SP4, SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Any ideas? I'm using it with conjuction with InfoPath 2003 SP1. I experience the next problems: 1) Does not public onto the Server. When I try to Publish my form onto the MOSS2007 it requests the name of the library and suggest to create a new. After clicking Finish it shows this new library, with the columns added, but without the xns file. Looks like the file is not published at all. If I try to use 'Upload' menu from the Site, then the form beacame avaliable, but every click on it says that it is not avaliable from file:///c:\develop\infopath\... if I try to use IE not from my computer. Than I try to Publish it (from InfoPath again) not onto the 'SharePoint', but on 'Web site' I choose the same library from the dialog boxes and It publishes. Here the next problem goes. 2) The form does not want to be opened from the Server. Right after the publishing and after eny clicks on it goes to the message: 'InfoPath Forms Services Error', where details goes to "The following form template cannot be deployed: newworkspace2.xsn. It does not have a valid name. Republish the form template from the designer and try again." And the clicks on 'Edit' ends in 'This ... requires IE 6.0 and SharePoint-services aware software'.     - SharePoint 2001 restore error Hi Everybody, I need to restore a sharepoint 2001 site, from the back up that was taken long back. I am trying to restore it from a network location, But the Bytes Transferred pop up alert shows "0" bytes for long time and finally shows up the following error in the event log. "An error occurred while restoring the application. The application may be in an inoperable state. Context: SharePointPortalServer Application Details: The specified network name is no longer available. (0x80070040)" Is there any solution for this problem. Following is the information that i have gathered for the restore 1=2E the SPS 2001 version/build and service packs etc should be the same as it was during the back up was taken. 2=2E the following four services should be started =B7 Microsoft Search (MSSearch) =B7 SharePoint Portal Server (Msdmserv) =B7 Microsoft Exchange Information Store (MSExchangeIS) =B7 Internet Information Services Admin Service (IISAdmin) and so on apart from this, if there are any other things to be taken care off, please suggest. 1) Would copying the backfile to the local server and restoring locally would help?(i am trying this now) 2) is there any significance of the logged in user credentials? does the login credentials needs to same as that was used during the backup while restoring?     - Access denied after restore via SPSbackup to new server We run into a problem using SPSbackup.exe to move our portals to a new server. We want to migrate existing portals to a new server in the same domain. Te SQL server is the same as for the old portal server. We backup the Portals (using spsbackup.exe), IIS metabase and IIS files . And... We "successfully" restore IIS metabase, IIS files and the portals (with renamed datafiles created). When we want to open the new restore portal, we get an "HTTP Error 403 - forbidden" message. That's it ! We did a try-out first on a "virtual" environment with a similar configuration and that worked with no problem at all. I can't see any difference in settings. What are we missing / overlooking ?     - Web folder only works on one site through Terminal Servers Hi I am having a real strange issue with web folders. Web folder works for myself and some other collegues fine when we are accessing SharePoint sites locally. When we go through terminals services to access the same system web folders do not work apart from on site. We are using sharepoint as part of project server so all of the WSS sites are created through the same template. I cannot find any special permissions on the site. I might be wrong but i believe web folder is a OS setting so its either on or off and cannnot be controlled through sharepoint directly.     - SPS 2001 urgent question Hi, I wonder if there is anybody out there having any knowledge about SPS 2001. The thing is that I need to access SPS 2001 to migrate documents to SPS 2003. For various reasons, using spin and spout or other tools is out of the question. My problem is that I am not able to set up a SPS 2001 test workspace properly. I have a virtual machine running Windows 2000 Server and I have installed SPS 2001 on it. Then I make a workspace. Now if I open "SharePoint Portal Server Administration" (SPSA) tool, right click my workspace, choose Properties => Security I see that I have the role of "Coordinator" in my workspace. In spite of this, when I browse my workspace, I don't have the rights to manage it?! For example, in the help files is the following: "To add a user to a workspace Before assigning a user to a role, you must add that user to the workspace. 1. In the workspace, open the Management folder, and then double-click Workspace Settings. 2. On the Properties page, click the Security tab. 3. Click Add, and then select one or more users to add to the workspace. 4. Click OK." Well, if I open the Management folder there is no such thing as Workspace Settings to be seen anywhere. Neither am I able to create any folder or upload any document in the Document Library folder. Using the SPSA, I try to give everyone the coordinator role, but to no avail.     - Adding pages in Meeting Workspace with templates I have a meeting workspace. When I add a new page (or tab) to my workspace I get an empty page where I have to add my web parts. My question is: Is it possible to create a template from my first page (containing all the web parts that I need) and then use this template everytime everytime I add a new page to my workspace?     - SharePoint Extranet Links Question I am running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 for our internal company intranet. I have ISA server doing Web Publishing rules that enables uses to hit it from the Internet. On the inside the links is http://intranet/ On the outside the link is https://intranet.domain.com/ I can hit the site fine both internal and external... the problem is... I have internal links in the NAV bar of the Portal site that goes to other web apps we have on our internal domain. When a user comes in from the outside and clicks the internal link (http://other-internal-server/webapp") it obviously fails. Is there a way to code the links to where if it sees you are connect with an internal IP address the link properties would be http://other-internal-server/webapp and when you come in from an internet IP address the link properties would be https://other-internal-server.domain/webapp - which I would have configured in ISA. So basically, I need a single link to be valid no matter when the user comes in at... if on the inside they get the internal link, if on the outside they get the external link... I don't see how i would do this in SharePoint, especially when adding a link to the nav bar, it only gives you one link option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - MOSS 2007 - Actions - Workflow On a Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow, I want to have a mutltirow text field in my list to be updated. Say in my list I have a field called "Activity History" and two other fields: LogDate, LogNotes i'm tyring to design a workflow where when the item is updated that i SET the Activity History field equal to the value of LogDate & LogNotes and append it. In code, i'm trying to do this: set [Activity History] = [LogDate] & "-" & [LogNotes] & "<BR>" & [Activity History] so that I keep the Activity History Log looking like this: 04/01/2006 - Did this. 04/02/2006 - Did that. 04/03/2006 - Did something else. I tried using the action to SET my field to this value: [%IT Projects:LogDate%] - [%IT Projects:LogNotes%] [%IT Projects:ActivityLog%] and it just inserts them as literals.     - Use credentials from different AD domain? Hi Everyone, I apologize if this has already been discussed/answered, but I've looked around and can't find a solution that works. Here is the scenario: My company is looking to host SharePoint Portal Services 2003 (2007 when it comes out) for other companies. Some of our clients want Single Sign-On functionality, so when a user in their domain logs in, if they access the SPS portal (hosted by us) they will not need to log in again. The problem is, the SPS servers are hosted in *our* AD domain, but they log into *their* AD domain. Is it possible to do this? I know that we could somehow "link" the two domains by using an empty root domain and having the two companies be child domains in the forest, but doing this for multiple clients gets very messy very fast. I suppose what I am looking for is any way for our SPS servers to accept the username and domain credentials of the client's AD (through AD trusts (or similar), IIS windows auth. or digest auth, etc.). As long as it doesn't weaken security, I will try anything. I apologize if this description is vague. Let me know if any more clarification is needed. Thanks in advance!     - Help on Alerts in WSS 3.0 Dear All, Please help me in following scenrio - I wanted to host a WSS 3.0 Site for my own use. I have public IP of my own and I did not want to invest in any thing. So i went for the following setup - 1) I have Win 2K3 with SP 1 and all updates applied. 2) POP 3 services enabled. (Not many people are aware but WIN 2K3 comes with POP 3 Server to live the competition with Linux.) 3) SQL express installed seperately 4) WSS 3.0 installed ith SQl express (that was installed seperately) and running fine. 5) No AD. The computer name is WSS and the Fully qualified n\domain name is wss.rnd.com 4) Now when I subscribe for alerts I do not get the laerts. I have tested my POP 3 services. I get emails on my hotmail and gmail account. and similarly I can send email to the server from Gmail and Hotmail. Now I made all the services run under The administrator account rather than the local system account. Now i started getting the first email saying "you have successfully subscribed for Alert" but not the subsequent alerts . Help me out if I need to do anything extra. help me on the following point sas well - 1) Will WSS 3.0 support the pop3 services of Win 2K3. 2) What is the difference between the Subscription alert and the subsequent alerts for lists and document libraries. 3) If I can not use POP 3 then which tool will I use as I do not want to invest in Exchange.     - Explorer view performance problem Hi, We are currently having a performance problem with the explorer view for a document list containing more than 700 documents. The root folder has only 5 folders, but it seems like the pefromance is related to the total # of documents that are in any sub-folders. It seems like the explorer view starts showing peformance issue as the number of documents grows since the problem doesn't exist when there are only couple of documents. Have you expereienced any peformance problem with the explorer view? The explorer view just freezes for a while when it gets loaded, the worst case for more than 5 mins. Would it be better to upgrade SQL 2005 now and in the near future
(hopefully) do the MOSS upgrade?
Would it be better to wait on SQL2005 until after the MOSS upgrade?
Would it be better to do them both at the same time (ituitively I don't like
the sound of this one very much though)?
