    - Corrupted PDF files when dragging and dropping to a mapped drive I have a user who maps drives to his document libraries. Occasionally after dragging and dropping a PDF file into a doc library mapped drive, the file will become corrupted. When users download the file Adobe fails to open the file and says the file is corrupted. However, when the user uploads the same problem files via the SharePoint site upload feature, the file goes up there clean. Mapped drive funcionality is a must for this user as he enjoys the convenience of working from his file explorer and not have to browse through the SharePoint site interface. Does anyone have any idea why dragging and dropping in this manner causes certain PDF files to corrupt? He is currently trying to pinpoint a common factor between the problem PDF's.     - list item access Hi. I have a Document Library with list item access (permissions set to each item on the DL). If a user sees a Document Library View or a Web Part not filtered by anything (with all items), then that user only sees the documents that he has permission to read =96 this a correct behavior, as I think. If the view has any kind of filter, like items added today, for example, the user sees a list with all documents added today even if he does not have access to read them (if he clicks on a document a message saying that he has no permission shows up). If the user sets an =93alert=94 on that list, he will be informed on any change in any document, even if he doesn=92t access to it (again, if he clicks on the document link, inside the email, a message saying that he doesn=92t have access to the document shows up). Is this the default behavior? Is there anything I can do to change these 2 behaviors? i.e. users only sees in any situation, and is only alerted on documents he has access? Thanks.     - "Error Access denied" to site We have the weirdest thing just happen with our install of MOSS and it has stumped us all. Under our Ops department site, we have 3 sub sites for Admin, Frontline and 3rd Line. Admin and 3rd Line are fine, but no-one other than the 2 SharePoint admin accounts can access Frontline. The error is the standard "Access Denied" message that you would get if you didn't have permissions to the site, but the site is using inherited permissions, so exactly the same as the parent Ops site and the 2 sibling sites, but nothing. We have done everything that we can think of bar recreating the site, so hoping that someone might be able to save us before we have to resort to this ... Tag: Is this even possible Tag: 99581

    - Using dates in the fixed keyword query I am using fixed keyword query in the search core results webpart to view documents modified in the last 30 days. The fixed keyword query does not give any results when queried on date say Modified Date: [Today]-30. It does not even work for any other date related query like Modified Date:"Today" or Modified Date:"4/21/2007" or Modified Date:4/21/2007.     - Worflow looping endlessly Hin I have this simple workflow which looks if a user sets a task as modified and assigns the current date to the date modified field... nothing exceptional... The problem is the workflow loops endlessly because I guess, each time the today's date is set by the workflow, the worflow thinks the record is modified and launch itself again... What't the logic?     - How to add date fields in the scope rules (property restrictions) Hi, I am trying to add property restrictions on date field of a rule in scopes in the central administration (in the search settings). Modified=[Today] and created = 4/4/2008 throws error and there are no results for this query. But if I use Author=admin in the property restriction, it works.     - How to show the Supplier Address Hi all expert, I have create a List named as Supplier. In the list got 3 fields - Supplier Code, Supplier Name, Address. I have save few supplier record in the list. After that, i create a new List called as Product Supplier. In the list got some fields such as - Product Code, Product Name, Price, Supplier Name, Address. Product Code and Product Name are blank fields, but the Supplier Name is a drop down list and will shown the Supplier Name from the Supplier List. It's work fine. But i facing a problem to show the Supplier Address after i select the supplier in the Supplier Name drop down list. Mean if i select Supplier Name - ABC, then i want the Supplier Address show the ABC company address in another address label in row below the Supplier Name.     - Wss 3.0 SP1 install using SQL 2005: collation problem? I am trying to install SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 to use our SQL 2005 server but SharePoint complains about the collation. I cannot reinstall SQL and change the server's collation since the server has other applications using it in production If I run the configuration wizard it has an error: The SQL Server collation on SQL Server instance 'sqlserverX' is not supported. Windows SharePoint Services requires a Latin1 General dictionary order, case insensitive, accent sensitive, kana sensitive, and width sensitive collation (SQL_Latin1_General_*_CI_AS) If I follow the DBA created databases instructions from page 42 in this MS document (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=115666) and create the db's with the proper collation, when I run the psconfig command it fails with a similiar message: Command: "psconfig.exe -cmd configdb -create -server sqlserverX\instanceY -database sp_config user sharepoint_services -password sharepointpass -admincontentdatabase sp_admin" Error: "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown. Additional exception information: The specified SQL server instance has invalid sort order Latin1_General_BIN. Choose a server instance that performs case-insensitive and non-binary comparisons."     - Anonymous viewing RSS feed I'm getting the dreaded "The RSS webpart does not support authenticated feeds" error when attempting to view a list with the RSS Web part. I have Kerberos Authentication enabled and working (All users authenticate via Kerberos) and I have enabled Anonymous Access on my site. I've even had this RSS feed working without issue, however a day or two ago it broke and I don't know why. When I go into the List and click Settings -> List Settings -> Permissions for this List -> Settings -> Anonymous Access I have the four boxes available to select. It doesn't matter which box is selected, the settings don't stick. I have selected View, Edit, Add, and even all four, but when I click Ok and go back in they are all unselected. I am unable to locate anything in the logs except a "401 unauthorized" error when attempting to load the RSS feed (Which is obvious since the settings aren't applying correctly). Has anyone seen this before? Is there a hidden setting somewhere that I'm missing? All external RSS web parts are working as expected, it's only ones that are attempting to read a List Library.     - allow access to default view only Hi, I have a task top create a "expense form".. for the company. I created and library where anybody can submit a expense form (I used infopath and workflow using "sharepoint designer"). Then I ended up with two "person columns"... "created by" and "assigned to". Now I need to restrict access to this list... where one can view/edit items that is only created-by-me or assigned-to-me. I created a view that does this.... Now I need to stop users from looking at non-allowed items... create other views, use other tricks to view etc. How can I restrict users to only the customized view?     - MOSS2007 Server Capacity Reasonable? I am currently doing research on the server capacity for a future possible MOSS2007 server. Since it's currently virtualized using VMWare, the speed is a nightmare. (Oh the horror.. Thank god it's only for testing and it's already slow with only me on it!) After consulting with Microsoft Technet articles, diverse (MVP) blogs and people within this company that had some minor\major experience in SharePoint I have come with the following specs for our organization. Which is aimed at medium collaboration and medium publishing with around 140 employees. Through this newsgroup I am trying to have a better view on the needs and if what I suggested will be sufficient. Though it is not orthodox to install it on a single machine, our organization is looking very careful with the current budget. (Only for the server, we already own the licenses for the software) My aim is to start it on a (medium to heavy duty) single server, and when MOSS needs more resource we'll move into a 2-server or 3-server farm. FrontEnd+SQL+Index: 2x Intel Xeon Quad Core E5420 (12MB L2 Cache - 2.50Ghz - 45nm - TDP80w - Bus:1333Mhz) Memory: 16GB 667MHZ Registered + ECC Using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (To avoid the 4GB max memory in Express) 6x 15k SAS 147GB in RAID5 Would I encounter a bottleneck with this machine?     - Moving SPS2003 to a new domain. Hi all, I hope that someone can help me. I have had a good look around and can't seem to find a definitive answer. I have a requirement to move an SPS2003 installation from an existing domain to a new one. All user names and accounts have been migrated to the new AD with their original name and SID information (including SID history) retained. Is it just a case of installing a fresh copy of SPS2003 including SQL2005 on new servers in the new domain, taking a backup of SPS2003 (ie: database) and then restoring it in the newly created SPS2003 instance? From what I have read the SharePoint database contains references to the existing domain and this information also prefixes the actual user names themselves - is this correct? With the advent of SPS2003 sp2 there appears to be an API that can be used to migrate users to a new domain (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;896161). Is there a utility or a scripting method that will just go through the entire SharePoint database and make any relevant changes to remove any references to the old domain and to insert the new domain name? Also, are there any other gotcha's or steps that I should take into consideration? We use SSO for access to the portal. Also, just to confirm that I am not migrating versions (ie: SPS2003 to MOSS) but am keeping SPS2003 and just want to move it to a new domain. Any assistance much appreciated.     - Indexing Single WSS Site in SPS 2003 Hi Folks, I am trying to create a separate search scope and content source for a single WSS site in SharePoint 2003. When I create the scope and the content source I am getting results from the entire SPS 2003 site including all the WSS sites.     - Referencing Fields from Another List Hi all, I have something I would really like to set up and would like to know if it's possible and - if so - how to set it up. The best way to explain what I'm after is through a simplified example: I have a list called Locations that has all of our company's locations. This list has three columns: Site Name, City and State. I also have a Tasks list that, among other things, has a Site Name column. This column is a Lookup column that references the Site Name column in the Locations list. What I would like to have is another column on the Tasks list for City and have this column be automagically filled out based on the Site Name for that given task. So the logic for the City column on the Tasks list would be something like this: - Find the Site Name that was entered for this task in the Locations list - Return the value from the City column in the Locations list that matches that Site Name So I think I am looking for a way to set up a calculated column that can reference fields in another list.     - Automatic workflows failing after Sharepoint 2003 Service Pack 1 After installing Service Pack 1 automatic workflows does not run any more.     - Importing Multi-Value Content Hi, I'm hoping to consolidate content from two custom lists on MOSS 2007 into a new list containing overlapping fields. Both of the current lists have multi-value fields (e.g. the user can check items A, B, and C). All of the single value content will import without error, but the multi-value items will not import at all. I have tried using MS Access as well as directly copying and pasting using the Edit Data Sheet view.     - Restoring Content Types I've recently inhereted a relatively new sharepoint2007 install. Having just shown some members of my team the basics of what sharepoint can do, i was asked to make a change to content types for a document library. In all honesty, content types are a new concept to me, but i tried to muddle through. muddle being the operative word. i added many content types to a document library, to see what they were, and to see if anything was useful for what i needed. In most cases they were not, so i _deleted_ them from what i thought was the document library. It transpired that deleting them from the context of a document library actually deletes them, or appears to delete them from the context of the site. Whilst trying to fix this error i modified the 'document' type, which again, was a bad bad thing to do. I've since reverted back to my Office SharePoint 2007 book to read up on content types, and have a better understanding of what they are, and do. My question is this.     - Full-texty optimize catalog population failure I just noticed that a SQL job to optimize the full-text catalog for one of my WSS sites has been failing. This server was upgraded from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007 back in February. I can't tell if this job is a remnant of the old SPS 2003 or not. The SQL job was called Start Optimize Catalog Population on <db_name.ix_dbname> The job contains one step USE [db_name] ALTER FULLTEXT CATALOG [ix_db_name] REORGANIZE This returns an error: Msg 7641, Level 16, State 2, Line 2 Full-Text catalog 'ix_db_name' does not exist in database 'db_name' or user does not have permission to perform this action.     - "Process Expired Items Now" in Configure Expiration is disabled!!! Hi All, I have created a custom action for expired documents and installed it in my site. I am able to see my action under "Perform this action" while defining the policy for my document library. But in Central Administration -> Operations -> Information Management Policy Configuration -> Configure Expiration, the button "Process Expired Items Now" is disabled and not triggering my custom action when item meets the expiration condition.     - "My Profile" oddness in MOSS 2007 I've just noticed that the work phone number isn't being disabled in the Edit Details page of my profile, although SharePoint is successfully importing it from AD as I can see it if I look at my profile through the SSP web interface. Also, if I look at my profile, or if I do a People search for myself, the telephone number is displayed until the page finishes loading and then it gets blanked out!     - SPS 2003 Windows Authenication Security Currently my companys sharepoint portal URL is a public domain (www.MyCompanyIworkAt.com) When a user outside of our network trys to access the site they are prompted to enter in their Windows logon/password credentials.     - Items missing in search - Deleted by Gather Hi there, I'm trying to resolve an issue where items (pdf scanned documents) that are put into MOSS2007 that seem to initially show up in the search list but disappear from the search afterwards. The documents still exist in the document library but when you try to search for metadata attached to the document or even the document title no results are shown. I went through the log and see the following warning: http://myportal/my department/ ... library/324873af.pdf Deleted by the gatherer (This items was deleted because the crawler did not encounter it during the last full crawl.) It's a frustrating issue as I have to rebuild the index in order to get these files to show up properly again. Has anyone run into this and been able to resolve permanently?     - Mail logs when using an external SMTP Can anyone tell me what logs I can look at to troubleshoot mail issues? Our MOSS 2007 is set up to use an external SMTP server (one that we have no control over). Some messages are going out (we can see in a capture) and are delivered. Other messages it seems are not going out as we can't see any traffic in the capture. I need to know where SharePoint (MOSS) would keep logs of outgoing mail and alert activities.     - Sharepoint 3.0 "Cannot connect to the configuration database." error Hi all, get a problem with my sharepoint 3.0, it kept showing "Cannot connect to the configuration database" when launch via browser. followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823287 double checked with SQL database, IIS and application pool, IIS is running, SQL is up, don't really know weather the pool is right, but it was working fine before the windows update. Background: Windows SBS server, Sharepoint 3.0, was being setup before, everything was fine, we have data on it. server was down last weekend for unknown reason, was checking on that, find out that might be damnware related back to a year ago, was being installed then removed, google search saying they might be related. ice check on windows update, run it but it was running sharepoint service pack one update and it takes a long time seems stuck in there, terminate it then reboot the server, both sharepoint and CRM services was showing down under IIS, manually start them, CRM is working but not sharepoint, "Cannot connect to the configuration database" is shown. Research on that, can't get that fixed, haven't do any changes yet, guess it is still SQL related. So, that windows update (sharepoint update) is stopping sharepoint running right, Question: 1) should I download sharepoint SP and finish the service pack installation? will that possible fix the problem 2) How can I perform data backup before I do any action since Sharepoint administration console?     - spbackup.exe suddenly failed and does not generate the site Dear all, Since a couple of months our additional daily site backup with spbackup.exe is failing. It just suddenly failed and could not find the root cause of the change. It does not creates any error messages as far as we could see.     - ADT - Migration MOSS 2007 We are going to migrate our domain from A to B. A is a sub domain of B. Luckily the MOSS2007 server is configured with the Administrator account of the server B. However I have several users of A that have MySites and access to some sites. These users need to be migrated to B. What is the way to go to retain the MySites and access on the different web sites. Does the stsadmin migrateuser does the trick? Or is there another way to go? We have a single server installation and simple set-up. Any help or additional information is appreciated. Got a question i am planning to create a AD SharePoint install to our
production domain my main issue is that i will be using stored
procedures based on AD information. I am wondering if it's possible to
use data view webparts with a stored procedure passing the Office and
say the department fields to the stored procedure???
