    - Problems with SPIn.exe dying (read on) When using the import too, SPIn.exe, on some document library imports it just dies at some random point (not always the same percent completed when it dies). If I'm using the "hotfix version" (May/2004) of SPIn.exe, it does not give me any message, just dies and returns to the command prompt; If using the old (Feb/2004) version, I get an "Out of memory" exception dialog, then return to the prompt, also at random points; Before I open a support incident with Microsoft, have anyone seen something like this, and if so, have you got around it and how? I've seen at least two different unhandled exceptions on SPOut.exe, but they where on GUI code and did not prevent the export from running. This one, though, is a show stopper.     - "Alert Me" function I have created a sub-area for clients to access for project related information. I go into the sub-area security and add their userid to that security part. (This way they cant access the rest of the portal). But if I want the to be able to get the "Alert Me" function, I have to add them as a user to the entire portal.     - News web part -- duplicates Hi, (again Still trying to figure this stuff out. We have a "news" web part. When I add a new document to a document library, it also appears in the news web part. If I delete the document from the document library, it remains in the new web part.     - Grouped Listings Hi I'm very new at this. In each sub area I see a web part for "grouped listings". If I add the grouped listing web part to any page, I see a list of everything that's been uploaded to that page Where I'm confused is One page (set up by a vendor for us) has a grouped listing.     - Proposal Accelerator Install Have been attempting install of Office Proposals Accelerator on Sharepoint Portal Server default web site (extended). Proposals reside on "//<server name>/sites/US/Proposals." I can create a customer proposal library at subsite which apparently seems populated with a proposal document. Instructions indicate to open with "edit in Microsoft Word" which I can do. Word stops at installation of Document Action pane then delivers a pop up that announces "remote server error: (404) not found". My Word work area is blank and I do not see any proposal document. I have checked configuration of content database and that looks good. Additionally, top level portal site works okay.     - SSL Problem: Server name changes to ip adress Hello We are running SharePoint on a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6. We installed a SSL certificate and the portal runs fine using HTTPS:// We installed some third party web parts before we installed the certificate. Everything worked fine an all the webparts showed up under the virtual server gallery. As soon as we enable SSL (under directory security in IIS6) all the web parts in the virtual server gallery are disapeard We even can't install new WebParts using STSADM. It results in "The configuration database could not be updated." error. It' seems that we need to use the virtual servers IP address instead of the FQN (https://wss.test.com) since the the URL listed in the virtual serve list changed from SERVERNAME to the IP Address.     - Picture Lib question, and uploading I have the basic installation of sharepoint that comes with SBS2k3, I have picture libraries set up. I can take photo's from this library and send them or download them but only when I'm accessing the site via the LAN. When I access via port :444 they are not available. How can I get around that?     - home picture How do I change that home picture that is on every page? I was able to find the image and replace it with a different image with the same name C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\IMAGES\HOME.GIF but other clients were not able to access the image. When they access the page SharePoint ask for a user name and password. SharePoint still let them access the page just not the new image. If I put the old picture back it works fine.     - SPS 2001 SP2 permissions through group membership Is there any known issues with SPS 2001 SP2 in regard with assigning permissions to folders (web folders) through group membership? Initially it works fine but if I remove a user from the group it still continues to benefit from the permissions it had through that group membership. Isn't that weird?     - Moving/Coping an SPS2003 Document Library to another server I used spout and spin to migrate my SPS2001 document library to SPS2003. After tweaking some of the documents and addressing some of the errors, I want to copy the document library to our production SPS2003 instance, but I don't want to take any other parts of the site. Unfortunately, it's not obvious how to do this. The Backup/Restore GUI doesn't show the document library as an indivdual component. "SPSBackup /doclib" does not fail, but it does not work, either. It crates a 5 MB log of mostly blank lines. Smigrate didn't like me using the URL of the doc lib, rather than the URL of the top level site. SPADM also wanted me to operate at the top-level. Are there other ways to copy a document library? I'm assuming spin.exe created the library in the SQL Store instead of WSS. Can I use SQL tools to do the export/import, or will the production server need other configuration data that would not get imported this way? Also, does anyone know what will happen when I import documents created or modified by users who are not on the new domain? What if the doc lib contains file types that are blocked by the prod server? Will they be blocked as well, or will the import process bipass that protection?     - WSS / SPS2003 Document Checkout We're currently moving from an SPS2001 to a SPS 2003 environment. My question centers around checking documents in/out. With 2001 these options were all available via Windows Explorer using network places. However with 2003 it appears that the only method for accomplishing a check-in or out is via IE, or Office 2003.     - Unable to pass credentials to webservice Hi, I have a web service that checks user credentials prior to executing. This web service and the sharepoint portal server are on the same domain, but on different servers. I am unable to use the data view web part to view the result of this webservice as I get an "unusable xml" error in front page. As an alternative I tried to view the xml document using the xml viewer (and later use xslt for display). Alas, that was not fruitful either. The microsoft website talks about a double hop situation where the sharepoint server can impersonate you. However, the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810572 has some instructions. But the components the options they describe in AD are not visible to me. I had just over 280 audiences. As the number of audiences increased over 150, the number that were failing to compile increased. My audiences range from about 10 users to 25,000 users. Most of the audiences are defined by Active Directory groups

When I reduced the number of audiences to 140 they compiled just fine again

Is there a limit to the number of audiences that SPS can compile?
Additionally, is there a way to increase the amount of time that SharePoint uses to compile these groups?
