    - V2 - Cannot Login using Basic and SSL I have IIS configured to use Basic Auth and have an SSL Cert installed and configured. However, when accessing from outsite the network I can only login with an account that belongs to the "Administrators" group. If I remove a user from this group I get an access denied error after 3 failed attempts. Active Directory in installed/configured on the same server. I created another test web site in IIS (not a sharepoint site) and can successfully login without the user belonging to the admin group?? This leads me to beleive the issue is related to SharePoint and not IIS. The user is also added to the the "Member" group for the SharePoint site.     - users getting login prompt but can cancel I have quite a few users with the following problem. When they access a document through sharepoint they get a login prompt popup. All I want them to have to specify is the name of the site and I want the rest done automatically (they all use the same template, they all get added to search, they all get added to the sites directory, and they all have a listing added in the same place).     - status and version do not show up on the dashboard document library If I create a new document library and fills them with word documents by saving file from within word directly to that document library the dashboard will not show status, version number etc. on the document library dashboard for that library. If I go into the Show Actions window and check in one or more of the documents then the version and status shows up. However if I publsih one or more documents from the Show actions, the version and status for those published document will not show. That will be true for all the documents in this library until I do antoher checkin and or check out on at least one document in the library having a version greater than 0.x something. Then al the document version and status will show upp correctly. Now thsi is a problem if I have a library where I normally stores document that I publish directly from my word program the first time I save them and then never work with other versions on those documents. In that case I will never see the version or status on those documents unless I go in and perform a checkout, and checkin publish on at least one document in the library.     - How to prevent users from seeing area on navigation hierarchy? The "Manage Security" settings page for an area says that "Only users with the View Area right can see this area on the navigation hierarchy." I assume this means there is a way to prevent users from seeing an area on the navigation hierarchy. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this.     - Access Denied for new users Suddenly (after running the server w/o failure for several months), now when I add new users they still get "access denied" messages yet they appear in the security list. Even after waiting a day, they are still denied. The only obvious thing I did around the same time it began to have problems, I had set access denied to several users in the list for a couple of files. I've since cleared those denials to try and remedy the situation, but that didn't help. Not sure what to do here.     - Webfolder issues Hi, I'm trying to use webfolders through citrix. They have windows sp4 on it and a new version of citrix (Citrix ver3, i think). I'm an admin on that server. If i login and connect to the webfolders, i have no problem. If i take my self out of the local admins group and then try the webfolders, i get and error: a connection to the server cannot be established. I dont' know why this is happening.     - Problems with SPS 2001 with SP2a Hi Apologies in advance if there was an answer for this under my noise, looked through about 15 pages of threads to no avail. Basically, we have installed SPS 2001 (v1?) on a Windows 2000 Server, with SP3 and relevant security updates. We want to use it as an Extranet server, so have setup dual NIC's for internal and external. The IIS server has the second site created as per the white paper about said subject. Everything works internally and externally. Now, when installing SP2a (on a box with no SPS SP applied) the existing workspaces stop working on the Extranet FQDN. They seem to work on the servername version. To be sure, I created a new workspace and assigned a virtual directory to access it. The website displays but asks for content to be created. This is the same for all users aparently. Can someone offer any light? I didnt have this problem with SP1. Going a little mad with this one.     - SPS V2 TR renaming bug Where do I report a bug to Microsoft? I discovered because my companies look and feel demands that almost all things must be lowercase that you can not change the title of any object to lowercase simply by editing the object and changing the same name to lowercase. SharePoint does not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase when checking to see if the title has been changed. However, if you change the title of this thing (such as a listing or area) to an arbitrary other word then go back and change it again with the correct capitalization then it works correctly.     - v2: Areas or sites? I'm trying to determine how best to setup our portal. We're going to have three types of users, paid staff, volunters, and board of directors. Our board, for example, has five subcommittees. Each subcommittee will have a document library for meeting minutes, discussion board, calendar, etc. Would there be any reason to have seperate portal sites for volunteers, board, and staff?     - Need a working example of Sharepoint I'll begin by apologizing for anything stupid that I will probably end up saying in this post -- I'm very computer illiterate, compared to you all. I need help from people who understand this sharepoint software. I am a member of the Air Force, and I work as an instructor. We have a lot of different "resources" spread across a huge network that we use daily. Here are a few examples of what these "resources" are.. webpages, word documents, power point presentations, and pdf files. Navigating through the folders of the LAN is time consuming (and hard to teach to newbie instructors). I know the simple answer is just to make shortcuts to each of these items; however, it would be difficult to get everyone to actually take the time to do so. I would rather find a solution that does all the work for them. I know that there has to be a better way for us to do business. I have been playing around with the idea of a web portal designed to give us a single source for finding "resources". I think that a web portal is a good idea, but I would like to take this "one stop shopping idea" higher within the Air Force organization, and I don't think that web portals is a good solution. I say this because it would be hard to keep a common format or standard for how the web portal looks - everybody would want to design their portal differently and eventually it would all be blah! Hopefully, I have done a decent idea of portraying what it is that I need. Is Sharepoint something that might be able to help me? I would really like to see an example of sharepoint being used.     - Advanced Search in SPSv2TechRef I'm hoping that someone can explain to me what goes on with the advanced search and how it works... This is my scenario: I have created two different subareas of Home - one called SubArea1 and one called SubArea2. In SubArea1, I've modified the document library such that it has a custom field called "ZandyField". I've then gone to Site Settings --> Search Settings and Indexed Content --> Manage Properties from Crawled Documents. On that page, I've expanded the "urn:schemas- microsoft-com:office:office" and, low and behold, there is my ZandyField (actually its called "ows_ZandyField"). I change the properties of my field (in this section) such that it displays in the Advanced Search. Sure enough, when I go to advanced search, there it is. I do a search on it and it return results just fine... However, here's where my questions come in. 1. Normally, when a user clicks on a subarea, the basic search at the top of the screen changes such that it shows that you are searching "This Topic" (versus "All Sources"). I'm assuming that when you click on the advanced search that it keeps this search scope in mind because, in the advanced search, the "All Sources" checkbox is not checked. However, the evidence seems to prove contrary to that assumption. For instance, if I do an advanced search on ZandysField from SubArea2, it still returns results that are in SubArea1 - not good. 2. Why on earth does it stick my field in "urn:schemas- microsoft-com:office:office?" 3. Is there any way for me to categorize my field by one of the types that can be filtered by in the advanced search? Or better yet, can I create my own types in which to categorize my metadata?     - Permission problems I uninstalled SharePoint from a test box that was having problems with IIS (World Wide Web Publishing Service would not start) so I ended up reinstalling Win2003. Everything seemed to be working ok until I reinstalled SharePoint 2003 Beta.     - Could someone please clarify? More than once I've seen SPS touted as an alternative to having a VPN. I've also seen much information about using SPS as an "extranet". But.... When I add a content source which points to a file share, the links to the documents (displayed in the search results) can only be accessed when a user is ON our network. Thus, it appears users logging in via the Internet can ONLY view documents acutally stored WITHIN the document store's file structure. Finally, (when accessing the portal via the Internet) users can not view pages on our Intranet site through the portal. How is this an "extranet"? How is this a "portal"? There have been earlier messages here about how to make a web part available
at portal level. (I remember it being command line but not much else - I'd
suggest searching in Google Groups)

In this case your web part would be that of the sites' event list.
