Hello All!
I'm still at the decision making stage, and have not yet decided if i need
Portal Server or not. I've read the white paper, but i'm still unclear, as
there were a few things it didn't mention.
From what i've gathered, you need portal server to use the outlook inbox
web part. Is this the case, or did i just pick it up wrong?
Also, what about if i have a file server? Can i create a document list
where the files are on the existing file server, and don't have to be copied
from the sharepoint server? If so, can i do it in WSS? or do i need SPS? (My
sharepoint server will exist on a different PC.)

Thanks in advance!

Alasdair,

If you are not sure I would recommend you start with WSS, moving up to
Portal Server is easy and you'll have a much better idea of what you want if
you are familiar with WSS first. Oh, and it's free (if you have CALs for NT
etc.)

Choosing Between SharePoint Portal Server and Windows SharePoint Services
Read this white paper to evaluate the relationship and the differences
between these two products and decide whether to deploy Windows SharePoint
Services alone or with SharePoint Portal Server 2003.
