    - Word documents showing up blank I have a site that was recently upgraded to sharepoint 2007 beta. There are many document libraries but one in particular is giving me trouble. There are several word documents in this library and all have a size that is greater than 0kb. Most are somewhere around 300kb or 500kb. When anyone tries to open one of these files they are greeted with a blank document. The file properties once in word state that the document has 0 characters.     - Enabling anonymous users to open and submit data via InfoPath Forms published to SharePoint 2007 Hi, I have been really struggling for a couple of weeks attempting to get SharePoint 2007 to allow anonymous access to an InfoPath Form. I published a form to a Form and Document library and authenticated users have no trouble opening and submitting data from this form. All my form currently does is send an email of the data they entered in the form when users hit the submit button. I enabled anonymous access, but the only problem is that I am not able to allow anonymous users to add or edit InfoPath forms in a Form library or Document Library. I tried to just copy and paste the link to the open form in internet explorer, and it opens fine for anonymous users for them to see, but when they hit the submit button they receive the following error: "Critical Error There has been a critical error while processing the form. Click Start Over to load a new copy of the form. If this error persists, contact the support team for the Web site.Click Close to exit this message. " I looked at the event logs and found the following error: "There was a form postback error. (User: , Form Name: RequestForm_pub, IP: 123, Request: http://sitename/_layouts/Postback.FormServer.aspx, Form ID: urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:RequestForm-pub:-myXSD, Type: NullReferenceException, Exception Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.)" I have looked high and dry for any information on how to give add/edit rights to anonymous users in Document and Form libraries. Does anyone out there know if there is a way around this or if there is any other way to use the Forms Server to allow anonymous users to open published InfoPath forms and submit data.     - Very large sps.edb I am curious how can I, should I, get rid of a large sps.edb file. I am running Portal Server 2003 with 250,000+ docs in a single site (meaning WSS site). I was letting it fill the non_portal_content when it exceeded the number of actual docs. I figured it was just something goofy as I was importing docs still. I did a "reset content index" but, which appears to have worked, except I still have an sps.edb which is very large (1.2gb) in the directory "C:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\DATA\a3348c30-5865-4061-8737-4ed9654dc95d". It goes without saying that I do NOT want to lose any of the metadata associated with the documents. But I can afford to loose the ability to do a full text search via the portal search engine until I get the index rebuilt. So, what exactly does the sps.edb hold?     - Anyone figured out how to propogate lists across sites yet? Simple issue really but one that continues to alludes me. All I want to do is create a LIST on my topsite and then be able to create the "same" LIST on a subsite. Why is this so hard????     - Anyway to limit number of alerts sent? We use SPS 2003 and WSS , we had a user create an "immediate" alert for "all changes" on a document library. Somone then pasted in thousands of files to the doc library using Windows Explorer. This caused thousands of e-mails (1 per file pasted) to be sent to the person who had set the alert. I can't find any way to prevent this from happening again, short of turning off alerts ... am I missing something int he administrative settings for SPS/WSS? There are settings to limit the number of alerts a user can have, as well as a "maximum number of results per alert" , but that doesn't seem to have the desired effect...     - How to disply a list document workspace sites ? Hello. I want to display the list of "document workspace sites" which each user is member of. This is the workflow I want implement: I create a document workspace (let's call it Doc1) starting from a document in a document library or directly from word 2003, then I add a certain number of members to the Doc1 members' list. The Doc1 site is correctly created and all Doc1 members receive the e-mail containing the link to the Doc1 site. Now, the question is: where Doc1 members can find the link to the Doc1 site whithin the portal? Can these members have a list containing the links to all the document workspace sites which they are member of or do they have to manually maintain their links to workspace sites? Is there a web part which shows this list? I expected to find these list implemented in "my workspace sites" or in "shared workspace sites" web parts (in the user's "My Site") but when I create the workspace site they remain empty.     - Search errors and Administration pages not loading Hopefully somebody here can help. We have a sharepoint implementation with 5 portals. The main portal offers shared services such as search etc for the other portals. One box does everything, SQL Server, Search Index and host the sites. The problem is we recieve is that when a user runs a search he recieves the following "Your search encountered an error. If the problem persists, contact the portal site administrator.". I am fairly certain that has to do with indexing and will have to recreate the index etc. The second problem is I cannot open the indexes and propgation section of the administration pages. The whole thing simply hangs and trys to load but nothing happens. So I have two questions. How do I delete the index's? I have read you simply remove search and index options for the server along with the job server then reset it back is that correct?     - Setting permission for discussion board Hi guys, The SharePoint is new to me. I just installed SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and set up a discussion board. The default permission setting of the discussion board allow "User A" to edit/delete any message on the board, including those that are not created by "User A". So I went into "Site Settings|Manage security and additional settings|Manage Site Groups" and created a new group with custom rights. But I couldn't find the the right that allow to a user to access to discussion board, but at the same time can't edit/delete others' messages. Could somebody help me out on this one? Thanks.     - How to change the order of horizontal navigation items Ok, this one seems like it should be simple but it just won't fly.     - Internal Server Error when users try to access from a specific domain Hi, We have an AD forest with 5 domains and users (in the form of DOMAIN\Domain Users) from each domain have been given access to SharePoint. All but one of these domains are successfully authenticating to SharePoint. The other domain is getting an Internal Server Error whenever a user attempts to authenticate with the "DOMAIN\User name" format, regardless of whether the credentials they supply are correct or not. So basically, "ERP\john.doe" is not being authenticated and instead going straight to an Internal Server Error message. The other domains are working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!     - Alphabetization of Document Libraries and Items in Quick Launch Hello all, I have a question regarding the ability to alphabetize items which appear in lists contained within the Quick Launch bar within SharePoint sites. It may seem somewhat trivial I know :P, but I have a fairly large user base who have recently complained about this. It is not impacting them so much at the moment, but once they begin having 20-25 Document Libraries within their respective sites, it will become an issue if there is no auto-alphabetize available. I have attempted to run the sort_categories.vbs script on a POC SharePoint server that I have, but it did not run properly. The only other method I have found to sort these items alphabetically is to remove them all from the Quick Launch bar and then re-add them in the order which I desire. As far as I know there haven't been any changes to our SharePoint Portal Server recently. When I click on "My Site", it goes to my site, as expected.     - 2003 Sharepoint Portal vs Sites I'm trying to determine the best way to build our new 2003 Sharepoint Portal Server and have a few questions. My company wants to have a new Portal for each department and a common portal that all of the other portals can see that houses the announcements and shared documents vs using one top-level portal with multiple sites (single database). My understanding of creating multple Portals is that I would get a new SQL database for each Portal. Does this concept allow me to share documents and announcements and things from the common portal to the other departmental portals? Will I have issues with the search facility because of the multiple databases? If this is possible can someone point me to a good document that explains how to setup sharepoint so that each portal is aware of the other and can share data. Design Exp: Common Portal - houses all of the corporate announcements and shared documents. HR Portal (Not Site) - belongs to Human Resources and is a separate portal from common but can see the announcements and shared documents from the Common Portal. Published form templates will be available through custom web page with XMLFormView control. Process of uploading Form Template and activating it on server can be automated by stssadm.exe tool . But it can be changed to allow multiple owners from List Settings. I want to achieve the same by changing site definition files.     - Setting up SharePoint 2007 Incoming Email without using in Exchange Server. Hi, There is currently not alot out there on configuring sharepoint 2007 document libraries to receive email. I found one very useful document that explains how to configure incoming email with Exchange server 2003, but nothing on how to set this up with just SMTP. Does anyone out there know if there is a way to configure sharepoint 2007 to accept incoming emails to document libraries and lists without Exchange server, or is Exchange a requirement?     - Windows Authentication MOSS 2007 I am having problems logging into MOSS 2007 sites when I invite users to a site. This is a fresh install on a windows 2003 server. I have connected to a sql database and I have successfully created a ssp site. when I add a user, sharepoint successfully send an email to the user. However when the user clicks on the link in the email they get prompted for a user name and password. they enter thier username and password and get a you are not authorized to view this page. I have windows authentication checked in IIS, and even created an spn in active directory so that the sharepoint server could speak to the sql server. What am I missing?     - MOSS 2007 Menus So I've installed the beta and everything is working just dandy! After I installed the portal and created a Site Collection, using the Portal Enterprise Template, of course, I see a collection of "Tabs" at the top (i.e. Portal, Document Center, News, Reports, etc.). So far so good... When I go to create a new "tab" via creating a new site that inherits the Portal permissions and uses the "Top Link Bar" from its parent, I get a new tab (lets call it DepartmentA) - I used the Blank Site template. However, even if I don't have any content in it, DepartmentA still displays "Pictures, Lists, Discussion, Sites, Surveys, etc." as a dropdown off of the DepartmentA tab. I don't like this as it seems strange to me that it would do this. Instead, what I want is a list of the sites that I create under DepartmentA. For instance, my portal structure looks like this: Home -DepartmentA -SubSite1 -SubSite2 And so on - that's what I want my menuing structure to display. I've figured out that I can manually change this, but I don't want to do this every single time that I create a subsite off of my portal. Is there a way around this?     - Adding Trusted NT Domain users We have recently merged with a company who is still running an NT domain (upgrade to our AD planned for Jan). In the meantime we need them to start accessing documents within SPS 2003. Now I have them all as contacts with the Exchange Alias and AD Description as DOMAIN_NT\user What I would like is when I add the user user@domain.com it would then population the User Name field with the Alias (All the local AD aliases are the user names), would this be possible? The reason is there is no standard format for the remote users, and I do not want a few hundred people here guessing a few hundred names there. And putting out a spreasheet with the details on it. I have some users running Office 2007 and they found those new fileformat very interesting and cool, and they want to use them instead of old formats. But all other users have Office 2003. I know there is a connector from MS to read those files.     - MS Office 2003 Web Component Errors I have several sharepoints that I manage and one of them has a office pivot view that I have created. It takes data from a list on the same sharepoint and presents it graphically. We have been using it for about 6 months. I have a Windows XP sp2 laptop that had Office 2003 installed on it. I recently updated it to IE7 and installed Office 2007 beta along side 2003. Now when I go to the sharepoint pivot view I get an indescriptive error: Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components Error (Title bar of the window) "failed to get data.     - MOSS 2007 Strange errors during backup process Using MOSS2007Beta2 install instructions from the MOSSDepoynment.doc except putting SSP service account into the WSS_Farm_Administrators windows group (bugfix for the unabling to make a shedule for crawling and MySite creating). The next problem appears during backup: I read backup manual from MS. It did not help me. 1) Choose Operations/Perform backup. 2) Choose the whole Farm backup (I have 1 computer installation with separate SQL2005 server) 3) Full backup to \\developer\portalBackup\Full 4) After the job is started the history shows the entryies like this: Backup Method Full Warnings 0 Errors 6 Failure Message Object SharedServices_Search_DB failed in event OnBackup. For more information, see the error log. The error log contains the messages like this: Object SharePoint_Config failed in event OnBackup. For more information, see the error log. SqlException: Cannot open backup device '\\developer\portalBackup\Full\spbr0000\0000000E.bak'. Operating system error 5(error not found). BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. But there are some files in that dir, created by the backup process (5mb approx), so there should be no problems with access rights. This is my own machine, so there is much free space...     - SPS 2001 cannot get Coordinator rights I have installed SPS 2001 on a virtual pc where I am local administrator. In Sharepoint Portal Server Administration I assign the role of Coordinator to myself in a workspace. However, I am still unable to administer users and roles in the workspace.     - SPS Search and multiple keywords (.doc / .pdf) Hello, I'm experiencing some behavioral differences in the SPS 2003 search function between .DOC and .PDF documents. I set up the following experiment: - I start with one MS Word .doc file and one Adobe .pdf file. - I assign the same set of three keywords to each file by opening the file in its respective application and modifying the 'Keywords' metadata property. Assume that the keywords are as follows (without the quotation marks): "wordone; wordtwo; wordthree" - I upload both files to a single document library in SharePoint. - I set up a search scope to search only the document library in which these two files reside. - I perform a full re-indexing of my portal content. - I perform a simple search for each of the keywords from the home page of the portal. Results: The word document is returned in all cases, regardless of whether I search for "wordone", "wordtwo", or "wordthree". The PDF document is returned ONLY when I search for the first keyword in the list (in this case, "wordone"). I am using the PDF+ iFilter from iFilterShop.     - MOSS 2007 B2 Installation Fails I'm installing MOSS 2007 Beta 2 on a Windows 2003 VPC (non-DC) and am getting the error (as shown in the log) listed below. The VPC has all the requirements (IIS, ASP.NET 2.0, WorkFlow, etc....). Looks to me like it has to do with MSXML so I installed MSXML 6.0 but still get this error. Thanks!     - SharePoint Anonymous Access Problem Hello, I am running in to a problem where I am not able to access the http://<servername> page. I get the error: "You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area. To change your rights, contact the site administrator." I have used the Server Admin username/password, System username/password etc. with no avail. I use to get this error unable to access the Central Administration and http://<servername> when I first setup SharePoint Portal Server 2003 but was able to fix it by going into IIS --> <servername> --> web sites --> Default Web Site --> properties --> Directory Security --> Edit Access control and turning off Enable anonymous access and unchecking everything for Authenticated access except Basic Authentication (password is sent in clear text). After that I was able to access the Central Administration page and http://<servername> page with the admin username/password. I have already set up multiple sites and now wanting to turn Anonymous Access back on so that everyone on the network can access without having to add them all to the user list on the server itself, with only having a few which can have Admin rights to the sites for updates and changes. Went back into IIS --> Directory Security and put the check mark back in for Enable anonymous access. All permissions are all setup with the sites and is working great with anonymous access turned back on but I am now unable to access the http://<servername> page again. Turn anonymous access off and I can access the page fine with the admin username/password. I am still able to access the Central Administration fine with anonymous on. Changing the Authenticated access from Integrated Windows Authentication to Basic Authentication (password is sent in clear text) seemed to fix that problem. Current server setup is Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition w/ SP1, IIS 6.0, ASP.NET 2.0, SQL Server 2000 w/ SP4, SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Any ideas?     - MOSS 2007 - My every try to work with InfoPath2003 ends in error Using MOSS2007Beta2 install instructions from the MOSSDepoynment.doc except putting SSP service account into the WSS_Farm_Administrators windows group (bugfix for the unabling to make a shedule for crawling and MySite creating). I'm using it with conjuction with InfoPath 2003 SP1. I experience the next problems: 1) Does not public onto the Server. When I try to Publish my form onto the MOSS2007 it requests the name of the library and suggest to create a new. After clicking Finish it shows this new library, with the columns added, but without the xns file. Looks like the file is not published at all. If I try to use 'Upload' menu from the Site, then the form beacame avaliable, but every click on it says that it is not avaliable from file:///c:\develop\infopath\... if I try to use IE not from my computer. Than I try to Publish it (from InfoPath again) not onto the 'SharePoint', but on 'Web site' I choose the same library from the dialog boxes and It publishes. Here the next problem goes. 2) The form does not want to be opened from the Server. Right after the publishing and after eny clicks on it goes to the message: 'InfoPath Forms Services Error', where details goes to "The following form template cannot be deployed: newworkspace2.xsn. It does not have a valid name. Republish the form template from the designer and try again." And the clicks on 'Edit' ends in 'This ... requires IE 6.0 and SharePoint-services aware software'.
