 - Deleted documents show in search results after full crawls We have deleted several documents, but they still show up in the search results, bot at portal and team site levels. We've run full crawls on the indexes thinking this would correct the issue, but no change. I'm sure we missing something simple here, but I can't figure out what else to do.  - Area Contents web part grouping Hi, I have a problem with the Area contents web part. I have 4 areas A, B, C, D. Within each area I have some listings L1, L2, L3... . Ln. These listings are grouped and ordered by using grouping and ordering. They appear fine when I display the listings in their individual areas but when I use the area contents web part on the home page the listings are messed up.  - How do I change the character setting to display all the text... The columns that shows in Sharepoint comes from my InfoPath form. The text description in one of the column does not fully display on Sharepoint. It seems to cut off at 255 character. I am unable to change the setting in the "Modify settings and columns" since the columns are pulled in from InfoPath and does not display in the "Column" section.  - search/indexing wss-only server Hi, I have 1 SPS/WSS server and another WSS-only server (http://server2). I setup SPS to index the WSS-only server. However, it only indexed http://server2 and not subsites/other site collections (eg http://server2/sites/collect1). I tried the various options. Any solution to this? I also tried to create different content source for http://server2/sites/collect1. It seems to index, again, just that site collection and doesn't seems to follow any links.  - SPPS 2003 Memory useage? I have recently deployed a Sharepoint 2003 Portal server. I have one site with a single document library in the site with 90,000+ documents. The server has 2 gb yet SQL only uses approximately 400 mb. How can I have SharePoint 2003 be more aggressive with regard to it's memory usage. My thought being it will make it quicker.  - Outlook Integration - Web Parts with SBS I am desperate to use Web Parts on my companyweb web site to display users emails inbox when they logon to the companyweb. I tried downloading the web part component on the microsoft web site "smart inbox" installed it and uploaded to the server but when i use it I get an digital dashboard error [Cannot import a Digital Dashboard Resource Kit (DDRK) version 3.0 Web Part.  - File Upload Issue Our corporate portal is running SPS 2003 with MSDE When uploading any kind of files to any document library on our portal, we receive this message: The URL 'Document Library/AHCA HFW Additional Servers Quote.doc' is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web. I've tried to upload in various other document libraries and I also created a couple of test doc libraries.  - Cannot upload any large files I am trying to upload some large files. I found the setting to increase the file size so I can upload files larger than 50mb. I changed it to 100mb. I then tried to upload a 70mb file. The process completes with no error message but the files never show up in the document library. It used to give me an error about the file size before I changed the setting. I then tried to upload a small file (1mb) and that works fine. But now when I try to upload a 30mb file, the same thing happens with the larger (70mb) file. It seems to work fine but the file doesn't show up?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  - WSS - email spoofing? Scenario - I am an administrator, and my e-mail address is set to f...@fred.com. I invite user j...@james.com to become a member of my sharepoint site. j...@james.com receives an e-mail from f...@fred.com with their new username and password. This is a spoof, though, correct? At no time did sharepoint authenticate with whatever server is in control of fred.com and ask it to send an e-mail on behalf of fred. This is the way that my sharepointsite is working, and I cannot find any way to have it send the new user credentials using a mailserver or other authenticated mail source. Any ideas?  - Whats the use of profile import in MOSS 2007 Hello I am using MOSS 2007 B2. I have seen a feature called profile import which imports all the users from the active directory in the SSP. However I have noticed that I am not able to assign those users as memebers,contributors in portal sites. I still have to add a user, search through AD and then assign the user to my site. The advantage of importing all the users from the AD is not yet clear. Does it cache the profiles so that searching the users become faster?  - Code reuse in SharePoint We are customising SharePoint Portal Server for a client, which requires amended HTML for the header, footer, etc. Instead of pasting the same HTML throughout the templates and definitions I thought it would be easier to "include" this as a single file. This gives us the obvious benefit of only needing to change the included HTML once, should the need arise. Can anyone tell me the best way of doing this? I would imagine a user control or similar but I'm not sure of the process of having this recognised by SharePoint. Many thanks in advance.  - Easily creating a connection to a portal site under My Sites in SPS 2007? Hi everyone! I know that SPS 2007 is relatively new...so I'm not sure if someone will have an answer to this question. However, here's the question: I'm wondering if there is a way to globally set a connection to a portal site for all of the My Sites hosted under the SSP? I know that you can go into the My Site, under Site Settings, and create a "connection to a portal site" ... but is there a way of defining this connection so that all new (and existing) My Sites are automatically "connected" to the portal site?  - Records Repository in sharepoint Hi I am exploring 'Records Managment' feature in SharePoint 2007 beta 2 release. I am trying to use the 'Send To Records Repository' command to send documents to my repository. To make the above work, as per my understanding, I need to do the following : 1. Create a Records Repository in my portal using out-of-the-box "Records Repository Site Template'. 2. Configure Record Repository settings in Central Admin on WSS 3.0. Here I specified the path of the repository site. 3. Create required document libraries in my repostory site and configure the Records Routing table as per the guideline provided. Henceforth, when I try to send documents to my repository using the send command, the operation fails, and I get an error that my site has not been configured properly. I have a top site called https://topsite and a sub site called https://topsite/sites/subsite. I need to enable the advanced search function to be used on the sub site. When I try to connect to the top site to enable this function, I get the following error: "You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area.  - Who is he again? I have this strange problem with one of my users using sharepoint services. Whenever this person adds to a list or updates anything his correct user id is not logged. Instead of being JBloggs it comes up as Administrator. This gets annoying when looking at lists and seeing the 'Created By' or 'Last modified By' displaying incorrect information.  - Opening a file from a link outside the browser. Is it possible to do with a link list? The situation: I have a system of excel files that I don't want to use a shared work space for, as only one person is updating each one, but I have them grouped together for easy navigation. When I connect to the files through a link, it opens the file up in the browser based excel screen. It only offers the "save as" option to save the changes. I tried a document library and it did the same thing. Short of writing a html webpart, is there a way to force it to open in the client's excel rather than the browser? The length of time required to look for new files and then copy them to all locations over the satellite causes the replication to fail by timing out or taking up all the bandwidth.  - Dynamic Web Parts I have written a generic user control web part that I'd like to use for an intra-company web site. This control ties into a data retrieval application which stores various documents and links to other applications based on one identity field. Ideally I'd like to be able to use multiple instances of the generic control on the page that would pull an identity from, say a drop down list, and then populate the web part with the specific data.  - Permissions and Custom Area Templates / Sub Areas We have created custom area templates that are located in the directory with the standard templates. We created our Areas and Sub Areas based on those templates. We have all domain users for the Portal Site setup in the Readers site group as of now and intend to set some custom Area level permissions using AD Groups for the users. The problem that I am having is that as of now, the Domain Users can only access the Home page of the portal and Areas created using the Standard Area Templates and some, but not all, of our Areas created using the custom templates. Specifically, the areas giving me fits have the following structure... Plant Area Documents Sub Area Project Management (There are about a dozen Sub Areas at this level) Secure Documents - At this Area level, the page only contains a document library template. Budget Documents Personnel Etc. Safety Sub Area Performance Sub Area Project Sub Area Team Sub Area As a test, I have no web parts exposed on any of these pages except for the Documents Sub Area Page, which is based on the content area template, and the Secure Document type pages, which has the doc library exposed using a data sheet view as the default. This is what I get after I make my third login attempt after clicking the Plant Area Link: Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. Access requests are not enabled. I wore out searching the Google Groups and found a few things of note, but nothing that solved the issue, hense the new thread. Once indexed, a user can do a search and see, open, edit file that they otherwise would not have access to through windows explorer because they would get blocked through NT file security. I have set the search webpart to not cache so as to avoid the possibility of all users getting the credentials of the first person to use the search feature, but this does not fix the problem. It seems to me it is happening because when crawling the content SPS is using an admin account and therefore when a user searches, it is pulling this information via that admin account therefore giving everyone access to everything. sI need to do selective updating for multiple sites over limited links.
Some need daily updates, some weekly or monthy.
The length of time required to look for new files and then copy them to
all locations over the satellite causes the replication to fail by
timing out or taking up all the bandwidth. I want to change the
structure so that all critical information requiring daily updates is
in just a few folders, weekly updates for other folders, etc.

Is this possible in the current released version of SharePoint or possibly
the new version in Beta now?
