restriction for Access documents?
By default files with MDB extension (i.e. Access Database files) are blocked.
To change this, go to "Security Configuration" and remove MDB extension from the list.

Dashboard Error -2147217895 after installed a new workspace
Hi there,
I installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 without any problem. I created a
workspace called Dispatch and it works fine. However, when I go to the
SharePoint Portal Server Administration and try to create a new workspace, I
got this error at the end of the installation:
"An error occurred while accessing the dashboard. This error may be caused
by the proxy server settings for the dashboard. Contact your server
administrator. If you are a server administrator, configure the proxy server
settings by using the proxycfg utility. Consult the product documentation
and the readme for more information about configuring the proxy server
settings. Important: You must configure the proxy server settings for the
dashboard even if you are not using a proxy server. (1)
Object or data matching the name, range, or selection criteria was not found
within the scope of this operation."
The workspace is created but I was unable to access it from IE. I keep
getting this error.
We mainly use SharePoint Portal for internal or Intranet purposes. So we
don't use Proxy Server.
Any suggestion/recommendation?
Thanks in advance.

Problem Creating a Document Workspace w/ Outlook 2003

Moving Top-Level Site From One Server To Another Server
I need to move a top-level site : http://caaseta.zeltech.com from one W2K3 server to a new W2K3 server. The database server is the same. I have tried using the SMIGRATE.EXE tool, but it does not seem to work on a top-level site. Then I tried using the SharePoint Backup & Restore. That does not seem to work either. With respect to the SMIGRATE.EXE tool, I get error messages about Access is denied when getting the manifest. I am doing this as the domain admin which also belongs to the local admin group on all servers. However, when I use SMIGRATE.EXE on a sub-site, it works perfectly. Unfortunately, most of the functionality and documents are in the top-level site. Can anyone assist? Thanks..

Where are the SPS 2003 resources?
I'm having a hard time rolling out SPS 2003 for our
organization simply due to the lack of resources available
for it at this time.
I have a couple help files (Admin and User) off the MS
site along with a couple articles and this forum. Being
new to this I'm having a hard time seeing SPS 2003's 'big
picture' and I don't see any books coming out for it until
May.
Is there a resource that I'm missing? I have the trial
version of SPS 2003 and am waiting on the real software to
come in right now so if anything comes with that I don't
have it yet.
Would it be advisable to go and get a book on SPS 2001 and
use that to help me along or are the changes between the
two too different? If I should go get an older versions
book any suggestions?
Thanks!

Moving files between areas?
Hi.
What have you been telling your users is the best way to move files between
areas. For example, if someone posted a document in the wrong area and now

Use Network Places?
Upload the file to new area, then delete it from old area?

Searching in SPS2001 and 2003
I'd be grateful if anyone could confirm or contradict the following
In SPS 2001 and 2003, out of the box, the search field (Simple Search) does not handle AND/OR operators or wildcards. For both versions, a developer needs to customise the search to include these functions. There is no ready made Web part that I can download from Microsoft or a third-party that will give me this functionality
Apologies for repeating stuff that is already on the board, but users don't believe me when I say that this basic functionality is lacking in SharePoint and I need to be sure. Thanks. Tag: sharepoint based websites Tag: 36403
Authentication computer name vs. URL
I have Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 running on a Windows 2003 rack.
We are using windows authentication to verify users are internal,
since this is an intranet portal.
My problem is that if the user types in http://<machinename>/ the
application comes up and recognizes the user. However, we have now
assigned a URL to this application for example:
http://portal.mycompany.com/. When users try to goto this URL it pops
up a box for them to log in as if it was basic authenication.
How can I get http://portal.mycompany.com to work like
http://<machinename>/ so that the user isn't forced to log into the
portal each time but they would be recognized. Please keep in mind,
setting client side changes to the browser is not the right answer,
such as the advanced setting for "Enable Integrated Windows
Authenticated", that has been tried. This needs to be a server side
fix so that we don't change settings on the client.

Funny problem (not the ha ha type) - please help!
I am having a really weird problem with the portal in
Sharepoint 2003.
I have 2 portal pages created directly under the home
portal page (I think you would call them subareas?). So
they should have a 'portal name/subarea
name/default.aspx' web address but actually they have
a 'portal name/whole lot of garbage' web address. I don't
know how this was created or how to fix it. I have just
noticed if I edit anything (e.g. add webpart) on the home
page it gets edited in those 2 subareas also. So I can
guess they are linked somehow????
Also I can enter in the web address 'portal name/subarea
name/default.aspx' manually and it does go to the same
page (but not exactly the same page because if I edit it
in frontpage only one page takes the changes). Also
another majpr problem is I can't edit the 'garbage'
address page in frontpage because I can't enter the
address in 'open link' properly. Arggh - this is really
frustrating and I don't know if I am describing this well.
What I essentially want to do is ahve the top menu and
the quicklinks actually go to the 'portal name/subarea
name/default.aspx' address and not to the one with a
whole lot of numbers and letters in the address. And I
also want to be able to edit these main portal pages in
frontpage.
Any help would be really really appreciated!!! Tag: sharepoint based websites Tag: 36398
advanced search in SPS 2003
Hello
I have the following problem: the documents on my portal have several custom properties (the "lookup" type - the user chooses one of the avaliable values, previously exported to SPS from an access or excel table). The problem: although the custom document properties are listed in the Site settings -> Manage properties of crawled content -> urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office, when I click any custom (lookup) property I get the information that no documents with that property were uploaded to the portal (which is not true). Hence, I can't conduct an advanced search by that exact property. The other custom properties (type number, text, date etc.) work perfectly. Only the lookup type causes problems.
How do I fix that

Custom Theme in SPS2003
I am new to SharePoint but have been given the job of taking charge and
customising our SharePoint Portal Server 2003. I am creating my own custom

this location:
\sharepoint files\TEMPLATE\THEMES
I have changed the title in the .INF file inside my theme folder.
I have updated the SPTHEMES.XML file and my theme name and thumbnail are
displaying on the 'Apply themes' page.
When I make changes to THEME.CSS the changes are not having any effect on
the site with this theme applied.

Strange URL's - mhtml
Some of our search results are links to external .msg files e.

Web Part Connection Filter
Hi All,
Here's my dilemma;
I have two web parts on a page, webpart A and webpart B. Both created
in FrontPage 2003 using the dataview tools. They are both connecting
to a SQL database view (different ones). Webpart A is connected to
webpart B and supplies a value to it to filter the list. The
connection works fine.
The problem is that when there is nothing at all in webpart A, webpart
B will still show the full contents of the database view. Is there any
way make that webpart not execute the query if nothing is in webpart
A? Or something that will have the same effect.
I hope that anyone can help me, I'm kind of stumped at this point.

Need a "RELIABLE" Host
I have purchased SharePoint Team Services v1 hosting plans
from two different providers who just can't support it

I am completely frustrated with reoccurring permissions
and corruption issues in v1 and fundamental authentication

I am considering going to v2 as I understand it is more
stable. (Opinions welcomed)
What I really need is a reputable and reliable hosting

I would greatly appreciate some hosting Recommendations.
Unfortunatly, right now I can only afford a shared
