    - site collection usage summary When I view the current storage used for a site collection in the site collection usage summary page, amount of storage used for the site collection has somehow become reset. In other words, I know that there is at least 900 MB of storage used for this site collection, but it is only showing about 8 MB used. I also know that it used to reflect the correct amount.     - Authentication window in SPS despite the user is registered Hi everybody: I have created a Sharepoint 2003 portal site and register users, however whenever I access it by typing its domain name asigned (intranet.belcorp.biz) or IP address(172.16.228.226) instead of the computer name, the server shows me an authentication window, asking for name, pwd and domain. After entering the information requested I am allowed to access. But my point is, if the user is registered in SPS 2003 and belong to AD, why SPS requires user credentials for the first time?     - MySite AND Links List How come you can not create a links list in MySite? I want a links list that is targeted to one audience,but to do it, I had to create a table in SQL with the link data then create a Data View Webpart. That is a ridiculas work-around. Before any one say use the Targeted links for you, that is not acceptable, first it does not funtion as it should. Anyone can go in and change the group by and see everything.     - Assigning tasks to users Hello folks When adding a new task to a task list you are offered the option of assigning it to a user. What would be nice to know is how this userlist is populated and how it can be changed to list other users.     - Unable to reach the WSDL of a Web Service created on a sharepoint server I'm trying to create a web service on a server running Sharepoint Portal Server under the following directory: \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\<web-application-name> I create a simple Hello World web service (in visual studio .NET 2003) and everything works fine until I try to see the service description (WSDL). Its almost one month and people have stated using it. there are lots of information like discussions, announcements etc) have been added by the user Now its a time to release 2nd version.     - Problems creating Sharepoint subscriptions Hi, A user contacted me today regarding Sharepoint 2001's subscription facility. When he tries to create a subscription against a folder he has coordinator access over, it states 'You do not have permission to perform this operation.'. This AreaListing belongs to an user-created AreaGroup TestGroup. But when I move the AreaListing to the Archive sub-area, it reverts to the default AreaGroup General.     - InfoPath 2003 sp1 and SPS 2003 I have created a form in InfoPath with a 'Submit' button using the standard 'Submit' functionality in InfoPath -- to submit the form to an SPS Forms Library. I have verified the the path to the form library is correct. I can open and fill out the form, and clicking on the submit button results in a message indicating that the form was submitted to the forms library correctly. The completed form, however, does not show in any of the views for the form library. I am not using any managed code on the submit button, but rather using the Submit wizard functionality available with sp1 when creating the button. I did a search on the portal and the site where the form library is stored, and the forms are not retrieved in the search. Has anyone encountered this behavior previously? Thanks!     - Editable web part? Using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. Sorry if this is obvious, but... I want to put a web part on a page that will contain an editable text block, basically a free-form "status update" portion of the page that I want to be able to easily edit right on the page. I've tried several things: - Used a "Content Editor Web Part" and clicked the "Rich Text Editor" link in the properties pane. This is pretty good, but it requires too many steps to edit it every time. - Used an "Announcements" style list, which is easily editable, but too constrained (I want to use outline style bullets). - Used a "Page Viewer Web Part", chose File, and specified a Word document, but there were too many toolbars, scrollbars, etc for a small space -- and when I hid them, they came back again next time. - Used a "Page Viewer Web Part", chose Web Page and pasted in the URL for a "Basic Page" I had created in my Document Library. This seems like it would be perfect, except the entire Sharepoint header is included. It's got a nice, easily accessible "Edit content" link right there. Any more ideas???     - Programmaticaly Set BrowserDesignMode I have a webpart that has a UI shown only in BrowserDesignMode. Some of the functions that the UI allows requires that I refresh the page in order to recall the CreateChildControls on the webpart. When this happens the page comes out of BrowserDesignMode. Is there a way in my code to set the page (during, or after the page refresh) into the Design This Page functionality to re-enable the Design Time UI? Right now any change I make I have to re-select the Design This Page every time and that can be slightly annoying. The majority of our users are part of the parent domain on our network and have been given User IDs and passwords for that domain. There are individuals who belong to this child domain that are not part of the parent domain. When we added these users into the same SharePoint security group, they were not able to gain access to the web site. SharePoint was installed when Active Directory was in mixed-mode. Active directory is now running in Native mode. We anticipated this would clear up the issue for the child domain users. It has not. They still cannot get into the web site. A temporary solution that we have implemented is to assign the users in the child domain a separate User ID and password in the parent domain. And, place the parent domain User ID into the SharePoint security group instead. This works but is not the best solution for obvious reasons. Is there a setting or a way to configure SharePoint that will help us get around our issue?     - ASP.NET State Service I just reinstalled W2K3, IIS 6.0, SQL 2000/SP3a, and SPS 2003 on a single server, after doing some testing and learning on the original install. A reference book I am using is Microsoft SharePoint 2003 Unleashed. After the installation, the book recommends some checks to perform. One is to check the running services. It says that ASP.NET State Service should be started and running. ASP.NET State Service is listed as a Service, but it is not Started. What starts that service and why would it not be running after the initial install? And should I change the properties to make it start automatically? I hate going in and changing things like this if it was supposed to be automatic from the beginning. At this point SPS 2003 is installed and the portal site is created, http://myportalname, but no other sites or areas have been created, except for the default stuff. Thanks...     - Help Create Portal function failed again! anyone out there can they help me.. newbie to server admin and SPS roles. Here it is: I want to make sure what do I have to do to get the server I have the server named. and it will serve up web pages via the browser at the http:// Localhost call, so I'm assuming that I have the IIS server configured properly. I want to make sure that there isn't anything else that I need to prep and get ready for the installation of the Sharepoint portal software as I have SQL2000 SP3a, and windows 2003 ready it seems my local host is only running in IP 127.0.0.1 for some reason I can not change this to a different IP. Or if there is a way to change this I cannot find it. this will be the 4th attempt/time trying to get SPS installed and the create portal function to actually work... I have a question: as I'm sure I have done this step you mention but I want to make sure that I have done this right, as I have been spending alot of time on this and still get the Error portal site creation failed... this is the step you mention: Have you created a Virtual Server set to use the MSSharePointPortalAppPool? > how do I do that? Then, from the Appsrv.msc console, you right click your VS and extend it using Windows SharePoint Services. Only then can you create your portal. > ok, but isn't sharepoint WSS different then Sharepoint Portal? as I check the error log and it does seem to have something to do with the virtual server, not it doesn't say exactly what happens but it is around the time of the extending the server when the rollbacks start.     - Can Windows XP map directly to a workspace? Hi everyone - i'm wondering whether WinXP is capable of mapping directly to a SPS 2003 workspace. That is if I choose to move all our user's %homedrive% from \\server\share to a personal SPS 2003 workspace can it still be mapped as a drive letter, like M:, for example?     - Migration tool - spin.exe I am trying to run the spin.exe, and I am getting an error messagethat this program must be run from a front-end web server with sps installed. This is a front-end web server with sps installed so clearly this is not the problem. Can anyone tell me why this tool will not work or how to resolve this issue. consistently. Something like 12:12:49 then12:13:49 then 12:14:49. Anyone have
any idea what this might be?
