    - windows security with Sharepoint... I added a web part that looks at a page I put up on the server in it's own virtual directory. All it does is ctrlMessage.Text+=User.Identity.Name; where ctrlMessage is a Label Control. Question: When I log in, I am logging in as DomainName\JoeUser. What shows up on the screen is ServerName\MyREALUserName. Why is this?     - Special Characters in Search Queries Does anyone know of a method, or even a commercial product, which will allow me to include special characters is a SPS2003 search query?     - Datasheet View Not Working with Office 2003 Pro/IE6 I have a problem on my main computer where the "Edit in Datasheet" mode will not work.     - Migrating Intranet to SPS We're considering using SPS to be our new intranet. We already have a fairly extensive intranet with a couple of integrated web-based business applications. What is the recommended or best practice for migrating those existing applications to SPS? Should we move the applications over to the SPS web-server and use Page Viewer Web Parts to re-use the existing code?     - Include and Exclude file types in Site Path Rules I am trying to configure the crawling of a fileshare such that it only crawls a specific type of filetype, and excludes all else. Let's say for example that the fileshare is called \\fileshare and I want to only index Word documents. I set up a site path rule like so: *.doc include When I review the gatherer log, it appears that it is trying to crawl all files types in the fileshare, not just Word documents. This behaviour seems to me that the purpose of the inclusion of specific file types is meant only for file types that are by default excluded.     - Administrator log in problem Hi, I have installed a new sharepoint 2003 server on a Windows 2003 Enterprse Edition Server . My problem is that I cannot open the portal after installing because I am not authorized to view the page! But I have all privileges and logged into the Windows 2003 server as the administrator. I am domain administrator too. I think there are possible conflicts between domains - one domain controller is running on other hardware (there are exchange, old sharepoint services and others) and on my Win2003EE Server is running second domain controller with SQL Server and SPPS. Finally when I try log on to portal (when I log on as administrator and have all privileges, of course) i have to write my name and password then! I use construction like this: COMPANY\Administrator (where 'COMPANY' is name of our main domain). When I click 'OK' Windows ignore my activities and show again log in form where user field is filled: 'localhost\Administrator'... I type my password but something is wrong because I can't log on. Hi, We've got a single server development environment setup like this (the top level web site is configured as Shared Services portal): portal.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com these 'child' portals are setup in there own SPS extended websites.: company1.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com company2.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com company3.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com company4.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com company5.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com Each company child site is configured to use search scope from portal.portal.myserver.mydomain.com. Each child company has both dedicated index and content sources for both Portal and Non_Portal content (total of 2 indexes, 2 content sources each). The portal content source points to e.g. http://company1.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com and the Non_Portal content source points to e.g. http://company1.mydevserver.mydevdomain.com configured as a site directory source. The Shared Services portal appears to crawl the child company's portals just fine, initially putting about 72 documents into the index for each company site. The problem starts when we do searches from any of the portals. No documents from the child companies' portals are found anywhere - in the parent portal or the child companies' portals. Crawler logs show no errors or anything that would appear extraordinary. No errors in the event logs or in the "c:\Progam Files\SharePoint Portal\Logs" directory.     - Survey w/ Lookup Data Always Dropdown? I would like to add a survey to my site using data from another list on the site. The list changes periodically, so I can't just plumb the data. Using Lookup, the question always includes the choices as a drop down box. I would like to have the choices from the list appear as a list of items with checkboxes instead. Is there a way to do this?     - Docs and Web discussions on different servers. The documents are stored on a different server separate from the Sharepoint server. This is what happens: I open a document in IE and activate the Web Discussions toolbar. Under Discussion Options, I select the Sharepoint server as discussion server. When I create a discussion, I get the error "Discussions are only available for documents stored on this server" (= SP server). The SP documentation tells me that it is possible to have the documents stored on a different server. You have to override a configuration setting to allow this.     - Error with Site Quota Configuration page I'm running Portal server and trying to manage site quotas via the "Manage Site Collection Quotas and Locks" area. When I pick a site to work with, I try: http://<FQDN>/sites/<sitename=AD> but there is an error returned of: "The site name entered is invalid: http://<FQDN>/sites/<sitename=AD>. Please enter the URL of the site as http://siteurl." This page has never had problem with this before, it has only started happening in the past 2 weeks or so. A previous post suggested trying it with an IP address and that DOES work. In order to license the non-office users it would cost $$$$$$ (that's Canadian $$$!).     - Rights error when changing password Hello. I wrote a Web Part that allows the user to change his password. It works, but the problem is that instead of reloading the page afterwards, it instead throws me to a page with a "You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area.     - Cannot login to SPS2003? Hi there, SPS2003 FE & BE both running on W2K3 server, with SQL2000 on BE. I dunno know why, recently almost all users got unpredictable login problem to SPS2003. Say all this morning there is no problem, after I logout for a while & login again, I can't login with error message "List do not exist. The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user. Click "Home" at the top of the page return to your web site." Unfortunately on this error screen there is no "home" icon or link at anywhere on the page. So to fix it, I close IE & login SPS2003 again as domain administrator, then logout & close IE, then login SPS2003 again as myself, it works. Does anybody know how I can change the view so that it opens as a detail view all the time in office 2003? TIA, Jackson Tag: security help Tag: 62864

I have to imagine I'm missing something small here (I'm a newb to WSS)...

I have a new install of WSS on a domain with only three users set up, no
groups. I can log on to a computer with a user on our domain that is not set
up in WSS and that user can still browse the WSS site with full admin
privilages.

Anonymous access is turned of both in IIS and WSS. All authenticated users
are supposed to be granted Reader access, but they seem to have admin
privilages.

So the possible reason is this domain account is the system administratior of
whole AD. This account has such a privilige like wss admin.
