    - Providing a link to an object/document in sharepoint Hi, I need to be able to provide referecnes to documents/objects inside the sharepoint database. So for instance, say I am writing a document and I want to reference another document that is in the Sharepoint database. Providing just a link to the document would not be good because that could change with each build.     - can authenticate to extranet from XP Pro but not 2000 pro When I try to access the extranet site from our internal domain out to the dmz with windows xp I am prompted to log in and it comes up fine.     - V2 - Upgrading to Tech Refresh Folks- I am trying to do a install of V2 Portal server from Beta--TR, each time we get to the Tech Refresh installation we get to a point where it just stops working. That point is when it prompts us for a User account to be used for administrative operations. We tried using the same account that we used during the Beta installation, which is Domain\useraccount..     - Scope usage on MSSQLFT query Hi fellow SPSers, This is my second posting about using scope on SPS MSSQLFT query. Could anyone or someone in MS help with this question or direct me to the right MS internal group? There is little documentation about the SQL syntax in the SDK. Thanks so much. I am trying to use the SPS Portal query (search.asmx) to query a team site. I was able to get the query to work for portal and team site but not specific team site. When I specify in the scope deep traversal of "/sites/teamsite", I don't get anything back. Futher I'd like to be able to narrow the scope to a list or a doclib. I have not seen any documentation on the sql query construct similar SPSv1. Is this possible? Does anyone know how to get this work? Thanks.     - Portal Catalog build fails I am running SPS 2003 and cannot get the portal search index to build. Non-portal collection works fine but whenever I kick off a full build I get the error: "The address could not be found, (0x80131418 - The requested operation failed with error code 0x80131418. No further information about this error is available.) Execution permission cannot be acquired." The address listed is correct. I have double checked user permissions and found nothing wrong.....     - Install SPS2k3 on Small Biz Server 2k3? We're running Small Biz Server 2k3 as our Domain Controller with AD in our office. We've used the Windows Sharepoint Services for awhile with it and it's been fine. We may have a need for Portal Server now. Should we install Portal on the same box as Small Biz or on a different Win2k3 server in the domain? We're getting ready to rebuild the entire server anyway so we are completely flexible.     - Security in SPS I have a user subscribed to a folder and it does not inform to him whenever there is a change. The permissions on the folder are at level of group of Active Directory. If I give permission of reading to the user on the folder it works. I have a development platform that uses the same one Active Directory and such permissions and works perfectly.     - Still Having Problems With Extranet Scenario CONFIGURATION Sharepoint Portal Server Beta 2 Technical Rrefresh. The Sharepoint server is located within an internal network (private IP of 10.0.0.5). MS ISA server is used for network firewall and public to private IP translation. PROBLEM Everything works great when accessing Sharepoint internally (intranet). However, when accessing Sharepoint from the internet, I can't create a SP Team Services custome List because Sharepont keeps trying to resolve to the private IP address on the server (10.0.0.x) instead of the URL I use to go to the site (www.domain.com). It's almost like the IP address is hardcoded for some of the Team Services functions. Why would the Sharepoint change the URL right in the middle of navigation? I don't get it. I've tried configuring the alternate URLs but that doesn't help at all. I've reinstalled, read all documentation and gone through all the news groups but can't figure his out.     - Category Viewing Problems Hi anyone I am relatively new with sharepoint and have what could be a really stupid problem. I have created the sharepoint server OK and all the functionality required is working fine except categories. If I add a document and during that process add it to a category the document doesn't display in any of the categories I have assigned it to. I have tried this with various documents (different published versions). I have tried different named categories as well. I have added the document to best bets as well and this has made no difference. Security seems to be OK as everyone is a reader within the portal\categories folder in the network places area.     - Documents Storage Hi, We plan to use Windows SharePoint Services in the future. What I don't know is, when I upload a document to a document library, say "An Article of WSS.doc", I can't find it in the WSS server. My question is, Where is this document stored in the WSS server? As I know in STS 2001, the document will stored in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\(subweb name)\(document library name)\ or if we have split the data and template in the different directory, we can find it in D:\sharepoint\(subweb name)\(document library name)\ for example.     - Members webpart I have a weird problem with the Members webpart. I have several different machines from which I have tried to get the part to work correctly and so far the only machine that I can login to the sharepoint server from and the members webpart work correctly is the LiveCom server itself. Here is my setup: RTC server(Livecom) Domain Controller for its domain SPSV2 Server(UCS) Domain Controller for its domain Client running Win XP not in a domain 5.0 client and Office 2003 installed on all 3 machines Both the RTC sever and SPSV2 Server have the exact same accounts with the same email addresses. From the XP machine and the SPS machine the members shows the members but does not show the offline/online icon unless you roll over the name. When I connect to the sharepoint machine from a browser on the RTC server itself, the members webpart works correctly showing the icons and separated into online/offline.     - More questions on locking Hello All! I hope there is someone who can explain to me a bit more about a file lock issue we are having. We are using an Infopath form in a Forms Library in Sharepoint (user goes to Forms Library and opens the document by clicking the url to the document). We understand that WSS/Office places a short-term lock on a file implicitly when a user opens it. The problem is that we want to edit a column of the list item related to this file and we cannot because the file is locked if the user keeps it open. This occurs inside an event sink we wrote. The code for the sink is almost verbatim to the example code in the Handling Document Library Events technical article in the SDK. We respond to listEvent.Type == SPListEventType.Update and listEvent.Type == SPListEventType.Insert. Looking at the events that are available, there appears to be nothing that will respond to the short-term lock of the file. We get events to fire when an explicit check-out/check-in occurs which is an alternative, but we did not see a way to force a check-out when the url is clicked. I guess what we are struggling with is that since there does not seem to be a way to allow the system to manipulate a file when it is in a short-term lock state, it is unclear if there is an event that we can capture once the short-term lock is fully expired and we cannot force check-outs of the document (at least from the document library perspective), how do we approach a fairly common task such as tagging a document with some system generated information? When i try to open a site for editing with Frontpage 2003, Frontpage tells me that this is not possible because web parts on the site are not marked as safe.     - Outlook Web Access Through Sharepoint Hi Everyone, I've been trying to figure this out for two days now and I can't seem to get this working right. I've been able to connect to my outlook website and pull up an email inbox, but it seems to only allow one user's inbox at a time. I'm using Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 and have the following settings for OWA: Default Folder: Inbox Default Render Mode: Outlook Web Access OWA Server Name: our webmail website OWA User Name: jgerszewski The username is a required field so I couldn't just have a login popup for each user. So right now everyone would have to login as me and see only my email. Has anyone had any experience with this or can point me in the right direction or website? I really appreciate any help.     - Issue post upgrade to SPS2003 from Beta 2 TR I ran spsupgrade.exe on my beta 2 TR server last night and everything appeared to be fine. In fact, everything still seems to be fine (can get to all the sites, documentation and can upload new documentation). I decided to gland through the application log on my server this morning and noticed that every 1 minutes, the follow even is being logged: Source: Windows Sharepoint Services Type: Error Event ID: 1000 #50070: Unable to connect to the database SPS01_Config_DB on \\sqlservername . Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. I've forwarded this even to our SQL DBA who confirmed that everything looks fine on his end? Any thoughts?     - Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 User Customizaton Hello, We are looking at Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 and have installed the RTM version from MSDN. I had anticipated that we would be able to create a portal site in which our end users would be able to slightly customize content. For example, we would have web parts of various business graphs and the end user could add or remove these web parts on a custom version of the page to meet their specific needs. I have taken the Page Viewer Web Part and created links to pages that have the content (graphs, charts, etc. - usually ASPX pages) that we want to display and allow end users to add or remove on their pages. However, I cannot figure out how to give each instance a name and store it in a gallery - is this possible? How do users add and remove these web parts on a user customized page (My Site - perhaps)? Is Sharepoint capable of this kind of end user customization and are we approaching this in the right way? The documentation isn't a lot of help - seems mostly reference material and the "Explore the portal with the Quick Start Guide" is supposed to have some kind of tutorials be we can't find them. I'm using SP Portal T2. if I do a search for "oranges and
banana" I get a hit. The documents I have crawled to not
have any such words. Same goes for cherry and peach".
Does anyone have any idea why? I have crawled ppts, html,
doc, xls, etc. How can I refine the way searches are done?
