    - Document library access ?!? Hi! I'm confused. I was created a form library where users (Contributor) can fill form (InfoPath). After that team leader will open a document and change status. What is my problem... I created personal view for user and place it on home page of site. Works fine, it shows only documents that was created by this user. :))))) Yes... :(((((( But user can click on "Documents and Lists" link and go to this form library an access all items in it.     - Re: Drop down for Task listing Until a user logs in for the first time into SharePoint, SharePoint does not create an individual user record. It was recommended by Cornelius J. van Dyk to send the URL of the site (or area) to all users and ask them to "register" for the application. Search the microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices newgroup for "Assigning individual task users in WSS" as it is just as applicable in this situation. Dave. The only time I get drop down populated correctly with my user names is when I add users by thier user names. I also noticed if I have multiple areas on my portal site with different users accessing them (i.e. marketing groups for one area, and HR for another area) and add tasks to these areas the drop down for these taks are showing the same users ( providing users logged in in their own area and accessing their own tasks in hteir areas). Is there a way to have tasks with specific drop down for each area? The only other workaround I have seen was to keep Word open all the time, once you login the first time you will not be prompted again.     - SharePoint Services email configuration Hello, I have a problem with my recent sharepoint services 2.0 sp 1 installation and was hoping someone could help me out since I've tried other groups on the net but with no real help. Any how I've got this install up and operational except for one problem email notification to do not work! I am running this install with W2k3 server and MSSQL 2000sp3 and the mail server I'm using is Exchange 2k3. I have used the sps admin pages to configure my SMTP email server settings, but for some reason I'm getting this error page "...user have been successfully added, but there was a problem sending the email...email may not be configured correctly...". Has anyone seen something like this? I've been troubleshooting this for the past week now and I am at a loss with it. I don't want to scrap the install yet..... Please help?     - Error: Cannot complete this action. Please try again Greetings. I have a Portal Site with a number of areas contained in it. For some reason this afternoon, 2 of the areas have quit working. When you click on the link for the area, it gives the error in the subject line. I have found this is a common error message, but none of the solutions I have found seem to apply to my case. Just before this happened, I ran the command stsadme.exe -o addtemplate -filename c:\IS%20Project%20Site%20Template.stp -title "IS Project Site Template" -description "Site template to be used to create new project sites." I received a success message, and was told to run an IISReset. I did this, and then 2 of the areas no longer work. I can see them listed in the portal map, and I can edit the properties for them, but they won't open. Does anybody (hopefully) have any suggestions as to why it happened and how to fix it?     - Doing a .bat file to backup sites from a portal Hi Guys, I need to do the next thing: get a backup of the individual sites from a portal URL using Command Lines, just a .bat file. So i was thinking on that : First stsadm.exe -o enumsites -url "http://cesl03des" Then stsadm.exe -o backup -url "site_from_first_step" -filename "C:\backups\mybackup1.bk" But i need to capture the url of the first action to send it to the second step.     - Project Web Part in SharePoint I have SharePoint Portal Server and Project Server 2003 installed on the same machine. I downloaded pj11WebParts.exe and installed PROJECT.DWP (and other Web Parts) in the file system. With SharePoint loaded in my browser, I uploaded PROJECT.DWP and dragged/dropped its icon into a SharePoint zone. I then received the error message "The file has been blocked by the Administrator."     - Error in survey response: "The list item could not be added..." I have a rather long survey with many single line text boxes in it. One user got the following error when trying to submit her resposne... "The list item could not be added because the length of the fields was too long. Please shorten the new entries or remove some fields from this list." No other user got this error when adding a response. If I remove some text from one of the single line text boxes I can save no problem. The strange thing is if I remove text from the multiline text areas instead I can't save. There seems to be a limitation on the total number of characters entered in all fields of a certain type per survey response. I can find no mention of this limitation or error in any documentation.     - Locking a document Ok, you have to blame this on the users. The problem we encounter is users are opening an InfoPath form in Sharepoint in order to sign off on it. When they open it, it is my guess that they are ignoring the message that comes up stating the file is in use and is in read-only mode. (Most documents come up as read-only and then they can still save later). By ignoring the message they are signing off and attempting to save the form which does not save and then they wonder why their signature has disappeared. What I need to know is there a way to lock a record in Sharepoint in order to prevent the file from opening at all. What would be even better is if we could automatically 'Check Out' a document so the user can see who has the file open?     - SPS Pass Thru and local service accounts Hello All, this is a goody for you I have been asked to create a SPS2003 server farm using 3 servers, one frontend and search, one index and job and the final machine is SQL All machines are Service packed correctly The crux of my problem is that the end user client will only allow me to use Local service accounts on each machine rather than the recommended Domain level service accounts. So I have created the same account with the same password on each machine and have had some degree of success. I can add the first SPS server into the farm with no problems and assign it roles on the topology management page When I try to add the second server however I get an error which seems to indicate that server2 is trying to add the local service account from server1 into its SPS_WPG group. i.e. Server1\SPS_ServiceAcc cannot be added to Server2\SPS_WPG For obvious reasons this fails as local accounts cannot be added to local groups on remote servers. However the entry for Server2 is added to the config database and I can allocate roles to it. I just cannot administer it becasue the connect to existing database failed. Any thoughts, has anyone ever got this to work and has a workaround for me (note the workaround would have to be supportable from the customer viewpoint) best regards Neil Hodgkinson Tag: New search scope not available Tag: 58231

    - Completely Anonymous Survey in SharePoint 2003 We have been asked to create a survey that does not capture usernames and want to use SharePoint for this process. The anonymous survey option in SharePoint is setup such that the username is captured while taking the survey but is not displayed to the average user. The administrator of the Site still has rights to chage this setting and find out who the user was. Is there any way to make a completely anonymous survey in SharePoint 2003? It would seem that there should be some way to not have SharePoint capture this data but I have not been able to find it. Has anyone else tried to do this? We are not using WSS (only the parts that are necessary for SPS), but the plan is to begin using it.     - Drop down for Task listing Hi, I added a task listing to my SPS 2003. When I'm going to assign a task to a user the drop down to assign task to a site user is empty. I noticed that if I log in to the site and then go to the task, then that user name will be added to the drop down. Is there any other way to populate the drop down?     - Header & Footer We have a header and footer we want to have standard across all pages of our sharepoint site. .dwt templates just don't work because you have to have all the pages open when you modify the template then save each page individually. you can't use the asp include statement which would be ideal. what is the easiest way to include a header, sidebar and footer that will carry through on every page and only needs to be changed in one spot?     - Permissions...Where Did I Go Wrong!?!? Our department is new to SPS, but are none the less moving forward, and I have been given responsibility for a Sub Area for my department. In it, I have created a Survey that I am directing the entire company to from a link in an email that goes out after service calls have been closed. I have added a Domain Group with the following sub area permissions: View Area View Pages Add Items Edit Items Delete Items And they have no trouble completing the survey and submitting the results. When they return to the sub area's main page, however, they have an Action menu that gives them access to 'Edit Page' and 'Manage Content'. How can I simply host the survey, collect responses and return them to the main Sub Area page without them having the ability to modify anything? I have played with sooooooo many permission settings I feel I have lost touch with reality. Any help with permissions or suggestions on alternate solutions is appreciated. I just created a new search scope in my SPS2003 but strangely it's not
available in the drop down list of the search box (the only scope is "all
sources").

It is very moody about when it shows up. The only 100% way to get it to
show up is an IIS reset.
