Is it true that searching in a Library is a brute force searching ???? It
means not using indexes.
Our customers are very annoyed with searching when they need to wain for
several minutes for the results.
And I see the string after searching - "t may take several minutes for
recent items to appear in the search results." !!!!!!! :-(((((

What are ways to improve searching in libraries ???
Thanks.

Is this Library a document library in a WSS site? If they search from a
page in a site, using the standard yellow-surround search box, then they
will be using SQL Full-Text search, which is probably what you mean by brute
force search. If you search from the portal home page, or any portal page,
using the blue-surround search box with scope drop-down list, then you are
using portal search against an index file. (Your colors may vary if you
have chosen themes or done company branding.)

The following blog page suggests that what you want can't be done:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/obts/archive/2005/04/01/40503.aspx

However, that was written in March, 2005, and I recall seeing something
since then that shows how to do it. Basically, you can include the portal
search box on site pages. Now, to find the thread that tells how to do it.

I think this is the thread I was thinking about, which I have not posted to
my OBTS blog. But, the crucial URL does seems to be the one included in the
first message. See what you can make of it.

Search Inside Portal and Site lists?

Hi all,
I've been able to index the data inside my portal area lists (and have the
links in the search take you to the actual list item) by setting up a my
Portal_Content search correctly
(http://blogs.msdn.com/danielmcpherson/archive/2004/11/18/265818.aspx).
However, i can't get it working for the team sites in my site directory.
Does anyone know why team sites lists are not searchable to this
granularity? Any ideas?

Many Thanks!

Hi all,
I've since figured this one out. You need to follow the same steps that are
outlined in the blog below, but do it for your Non_Portal_Content. Also, its
very important to delete the default portal rule from the Non_Portal_Content
- as this, by default limits the searching of lists.

Cheers!
