    - Editing 'Document Inspection/Show Actions Page' Hey Everyone! I need to edit the page or script that generates the Document Inspection/Show Actions page. Does anyone know where I might find it? Basically I would like to change the field that displays who a document has been checked out to so that it displays the user 'Display Name' instead of the username. The problem is that we use numbers for our usernames, so when a document is checked out to x654872 we want to see the Display name of Doe, John instead of the number which is the username.     - Urgent: Customizing main Help link on the Portal Hi We are having 3 different portals for 3 different clients on the same physical front end server.These are Sharepoint Portals and not WSS sites. I want to customize help for all of the portals, so did create my own mapping xml file and my custom help dir and custom help files. Now I want to customize the main Help link on the portal home page and othe area pages to show my custom help. I can do that by pointing the <helpmain> key to my custom help file. But now my problem is , the same custom help file is shown for other portals also, which I don't want to happen. The SDK explains that to map the main help link on the top navigation bar on a WSS site just add a script var navBarHelpOverrideKey = "KEY_NAME"; But this does not work for a Portal site and the SDK does not talk about how to do it for the portal.. Does any one know about customizing the main Help link on the main navigation bar on the Sharepoint portal? ANy help would be really apprecited...     - reformat webpart headers Hi, Is it possible to change the rendering of the webpart "container", i.e. not just the content. All webparts renders the headline, borders etc using the same HTML. E.g. the header is always a table: <table TOPLEVEL border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> with only one <TD> The only changes I can make seems to be the content part. Ok, praise the CSS, but sometimes it's not enough. Making round corners for the head of a webpart... not very easy if you only have one <TD> to play with...     - #RENDER FAILED We have created a document library with a custom view, and saved this library as a template. We have then used this template to create doc. libs on other areas of the portal. We moved the portal from dev to production using SPS Data Backup and Restore Tool. Our library works fine in dev, but in prod we get the error "#RENDER FAILED" in this situation:Our custom view displays only 10 items, and when you click the next button to see more items, you get this error. We have discovered that this only applies when the library is sorted on a date column. If it is sorted on for example "title" , we dont get the error... We are using SPS 2003.     - Moving a SPS2003 I'm trying to move a portal from a serverA to serverB. For this task i've tried a number of different ways. The problem is that the sites still have the address http://serverA... instead of http://serverB... I have tried the obvious, using the backup and restore tool indicating the new server to which the portal is restored, to the desperate, modifying the content database (the sites table) to point to serverB, but no matter what i tried, the message is still the same when i access http://serverB/ , "Under Construction".     - Pass authentiction to external site From the home page of my Portal site, I would like to display the contents of an external web site using a Page Viewer Web Part. This site is on a different server, but both servers are on the same domain. The external site uses Integrated Windows Authentication, and my Portal server uses the same. Is there any way to pass the user's logon information from the portal server to this external site?     - Upload new document but content is old when viewing Does anyone know if there is a way to correct the following? A user checks a document out of a document library. They make changes, upload the new version and check it back in. If they click on the document to view their changes, they see the old version. Once they exit the portal and come back in, if they click on the document they see the changes. Is there a setting for caching that can be changed so the user will see the new version immediately?     - Q: SPS navigation panel management What way can the navigation panel (the one on the left side of the page) be reorganised? Strangely, the navigation panel on the home page contains links to one area in particular and I find no way to modify it. I have no idea why this very area is given preference over the others.     - Restrict domain administrators access Hi, I would like to know if it is at all possible to restrict the access rights of the Active Directory groups "Domain Administrator" in Sharepoint Document libraries. The reason is that we want the Human Resources document library to be only accessible to those members of the HR group. However, it seems that people from our technical department (who are part of the Domain Admins group) are able to overcome this barrier and access every document anyways. I see that I can go into "Manage site group permissions" and deselect the "Use personal features" but then you lose personal alerts...grrrr what are they thinking...     - Topic Area Hi I was wondering if there was a 'better' way to diplay the topics in the topic area. The defualt webpart for the Topic Area is the 'Browse topics by' webpart. Howqever this doesn't have much in the way of customisation.     - Data View based on Document Library Hi all, I'm using SPS 2003. I have a document library set up in our portal. The documents are categorized using two custom column (they are both of type choice), i.e. a 2 dimensional grouping of the documents. I would like to provide an overview of the documents contained in the document library as a table. This overview should have one of the categories as columns and the other as rows.     - Urgent Help - Layout design customisation Does anybody know whether it's possible to customise the layout design of the server side Sharepoint pages? We've been able to change colour schemes by changing the style sheets and 'Theme', and can re-design layouts for local pages, but the server side pages are more difficult. We're trying to alter pages such as _layouts/1033/viewlsts.aspx and _layouts/1033/create.aspx. One way may be to save customised versions of these pages to the local website, but all the menu links to the server pages are contained in Webbots and Web parts - is it possible to change these links to call the customised pages instead?     - smigrate troubles Hi folks I am trying to experiment with smigrate to backup sites from one portal and to restore them in another. However when I try to use smigrate (having followed a guide) I receive the following error(s):- Progress: Error getting manifest for http://hostname/Site (fatal) Progress: You are not authorized to perform the current operation. I have tried using the -u and -pw flags to specify a username and a password. the username and password that have been tried belong to the Portal administrator - I cannot understand why it continues to tell me I am 'not authorized to perform the current operation'.     - Which ports a SPS web front-end located on DMZ needs open? We are planning an extranet (small farm deployment) and about to place only the web front-end (WFE) to the DMZ. It is a part of an extranet-AD, with a domain controller (DC) inside the LAN. The SQL server (SQL) is also inside the LAN. Couple of questions: 1. Which ports does WFE need open to DC in order to be able to process authentication -related communication? - reskit (i think) lists tcp and udp for all these: 53,88,389,445 - is this accurate ? all needed? 2. Does the index/search/job -component need any additional ports (other than sql communication) opened? It is only indexing SPS's internal data.     - Office 2000 and WSS Hello, A customer of mine has office 2000 installed on their computers, and cant use all functions. BUT, one of the guys mentioned that when he had Visio 2003 installed on his computer he could do more stuff with WSS. So my question is, what components etc did he get with visio that made him able to use WSS? And is it possible to somehow isolate this and perhaps distribute em to our computers.     - Spin doesn't support subsites I'm trying to import data from SPS2001 to SPS2003. I need to have different permissions to folders so they need to be made as sites and subsites. This was recommended way in MS's SPSAdvancedMigrationScenarios.doc. Now it seems that this is impossible using spin as it doesn't understand subsites as described in KB article 839797: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;839797 So the question is: does anybody know whether a) there is a way to do this some other way? b) is MS going to do something to get spin working as they inform it should? I'm using office 2000. Is SPS provide a form to fill in information like
author, category or something similar when I save files into document
library? The files maybe PDF or photos. Thanks.
