Service stays in 'Starting' state
I have both a front-end and application server running MOSS. WSS Web
application has been running only on front-end server, and now have a handful
of web applications set up.
I started the WSS Web Application (from Services on Server) on the
application server in order to test a function. The status has remained at
'Starting' for a day now. All the websites (except for the SSP Admin site)
have copied over in IIS. I did see a problem where some of the IIS sites did
not start immediately, and manually doing so generated a "too many listening
ports" error, but I corrected this by adding the MaxEndPoints to the
registry.
Any ideas on how I can correct this?

The "site collection usage report" link is not showing up for me.
Here is the way my site is set up . It is a publishing site.
I have enabled logging and usage analysis processing from operations -
> usage analysis processing
I have enabled advanced usage analysis processing and search query
logging from ssp -> usage reporting
I have turned on the reporting feature
I am the site collection admin as well as the site admin.
I still get only the usage summary and the site usage report. I need
to see the site collection usage reports (which have alll the charts
etc) Has anyone seen this problem before.
btw the reports are generated and I can reach them by going to
_layouts/spusagesite.aspx but the link does not show up. I need to
see the link to this page.

How does one make Two Physical MOSS farms appear to be one seamless MOSS to the portal users ?
How does one make Two Physical MOSS farms appear to be one seamless MOSS to the portal users ?
My initial problem is as follows:
I'm faced with the old problem of service separation, where one service provider looks after content management and the other
looks after applications.
The content management provider will have MOSS in place and there are a some worries re service availability, finding out what is
not working etc.. so it would be handy if we could have a second MOSS that lives with the application service provider which
houses all the custom webparts that will talk to back end applications. Then present these two MOSS, such that they appear to
internal and external users to be one MOSS.
The part that I find confusing is how does one have webparts from these two different server farms appear to be one MOSS. Since my
understanding is that we cannot really have a remote webpart.
Do I nominate one of the MOSS's to be the master site, where everyone is initially sent by the load balancers, and then the master
site effectively ends up collecting the web parts from the two MOSS farms in some manner?

Account Lockout after password change for services that run MOSS
I am testing SharePoint Server on a PC running Server 2003. Because I
am only in the testing phase and I have full domain admin rights with
my personal network account, I installed MOSS along with the
Application Group with my credentials. Since the install I have had to
change my network login and since then I've had problems - whenever I
boot up the PC running MOSS, my network account gets locked out.
I have gone through Services and changed the ones which were
associated with my network login to reflect the new password and I've
also gone through IIS and changed the password under the different
applicaton groups. In addition I've gone through the Server Central
Administration page and changed it there as well. Is there something
which I'm missing, somewhere else I should go to change the password?
SharePoint is running correctly, so if I'm missing something I think
it wouldn't be working correctly.

Hi,
I am just going mad over this, I am trying to update contenty query
web part filters through a console application and whenever I try to
debug after webpart.update(publishinweb) it shows me updated
properties. However if I navigate to the actual page the web part

Size of User Image
Hi there,
got a problem with displaying user's profile-images and i'm asking
myself if there are others out there which have the same problem ...
If you open a page where the user's profile-image is shown (e.g.
contact-details-WP or Core-Searchresults for persons-WP) our MOSS
Server displays the image randomly either in its original-
size(640x480px) or in its thumbnail-size(73x75px).
I could workaround that if i would resize all the images to its
thumbnail-size but probably there is a other solution known, some code
fixing or dunno what else.
If the error occurs you can refresh the site a few times and it will
display in the thumbnail-size correctly. so, its really a random
issue.
any ideas ?

Workspace can't be created on Sub Pages
Hello,
Need some help.
Our Sharepoint Site won't let us create workspaces on Documents saved
within Document librarys saved on our sub pages.
On our home page (the 1st page we created) all is ok.
Its asks us for a User name and password. Single sign on service as
started and all other services work fine.
Were not sure whether it is something that wasn't created probably
when the doc. librarys were created.
Any help on this would be great.

Members can approve pages in a WCM-enabled site (MOSS 2007)
Hi all.
I'm rather new to the Web Content Managment features in MOSS so
forgive me if I've overlooked something obvious. :)
We have a bog standard MOSS 2007 installation, complete with the
"News" subsite in the top site collection. For some reason I can't
figure out what group to put my content creators in as none of the
default groups seem to fit.
My first idea - and I still cling to this one as it makes most sense -
was to put them in the "Members" group of the site as these can add,
edit and delete but not approve objects and pages. Our news editor
would then go into the "Approvers" group.
This doesn't work though as all users in the members group can publish
any page they create, without approval from the approvers.
I've been trying to figure out if there's an option I've missed or a
setting to change but I can't wrap my head around it. Unfortunately
there aren't a lot of resources about WCM on the web either. :/
Any ideas are very much appreciated.

If i have an e-mail enabled document library and my backend mail system is
Exchange can people outside the LAN [people at other businesses, the public]
send e-mails to the document library by using the address generated for it?
For example if I have a e-mail enabled document library for resumes can I
use the e-mail address on a link on a website and say "E-mail your resumes

Hello everyone,
I have a weird problem with the "collect data from user" function in
SharePoint Designer, (when using a designed workflow in SharePoint)
and the entry form which should collect the data from the user.
When using the "collect data from user" function in a workflow, the
user will see the generated task (the collect data task) in his task
list. He also will receive an E-Mail about his task. So everything
seems to work fine. But after opening the task in the task list, the
user will only see the standard view of this task and not the
generated form (aspx site) of the SharePoint Designer. Therefore it is
not possible to finish the workflow, because the task can't be
finished.
I already checked the permissions of the task list and the permissions
of the user as well. The behavior after opening the task in the list
is always the same.
Surprisingly the "out of the box" workflows from Microsoft (i.e.
collect feedback) are working fine. A click on the corresponding task
will open the form and not the standard view.
Does somebody have a suggestion, why I can't see the generated form
for the workflow task?

moss database migration error

Customising MOSS Survey
Hello,
Is there a way to change the way a survey looks in MOSS. Basically I have a
survey that has a rating scale question, and I need to have a line between
each subquestion (or alternating row colours or something like that) to make
it easier to distinguish between each one (Each sub question goes over one
line, so it can be hard to distinguish between each one sometimes).
I have SharePoint designer available to use, and I already have a custom
masterpage that is in use over my site collection. Has anyone had to do this
before that can provide me with some advice?

MOSS 2007 - What happened to the old portal homepage?
I just installed MOSS 2007 and was able to create a site collection.
However, I do not see anything in regards to "Create a portal site"
like there is in SPS 2003. Is there no longer a central portal
homepage? If there is, where and how do I create it?
Am I just overlooking something simple or did the SharePoint
developement team completely change the architecture of how SharePoint
Portal Server looks and works from the Admin's point of view... and

Delete document library option not available in MOSS 2007.
This one has me stumped today.
Created a new doc library from a template, but I can't delete it.
When I go to "Document Library Settings" the "Delete this document library"
is not available.
I checked permissions and I am a site-collection admin as well as an owner

Portal search issue
Hi there,
We are using Sharepoint 2003 with SQL 2000. The problem we are facing
is with the portal search where in the search results does not contain
all of the wss documents. The results will have some of the documents
matching to key words, but some documents are not being listed in the
result even though they contain the key word.
We tried full population of the site directory index, but with no
luck. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Managed folder email attachment
Hi,
I use MOSS managed folder to archive email and group emails by Sender, it
works fine; however, if there is email attachment, the attachment link is not
inside email body, thus its very difficult to view the attachment of the
email; is it a feature by design? any workaround/configuration to make it

LDAP Profile import MOSS 2007
Hi all,
Have spent 5 days struggling with a problem here that I hope someone
can help with. We have a MOSS installation that authenticates against
the primary domain. However we also wish to import some user profiles
from a Global directory via LDAP.
Read access has been granted to the default access account and when
creating the Import Connection in SSP it works fine. We can connect to
the global dir via ADSIEdit or Ldap browser (Softerra) no problem and
we can see all 60000+ users in there.
However in the User Profiles section when running a full import
against the custom source that only contains the LDAP connection we
recieve a 8007203a error in the import log and we get no users
imported. This is really frustrating and running a packet sniffer
hasn't shed any light on what the problem is. Again as mentioned we
can see the users and bind no problem and the Import Connection itself
doesn't throw any errors.
Has anyone had any experience with this kind of problem?

Problem with BDC "View Profile"
I have an application definition imported into the Business Data Catalog
(reading data from a SQL Server). It appears to be working OK - I can
search and validated BDC values and store them in lists.
But when I use a BDC column in a list and display the list in a view (via
All Site Content - not even in a web part) and I click on the BDC value
shown in the list, it takes me to a blank page instead of the "View Profile"
page.
The URL it goes to is something like:
http://server/SomeSite/_layouts/ProfileRedirect.aspx?Application=My+Data&Entity=BusinessUnits&ItemId=__bk410003000300230033001300
and it just sits there at a blank screen.
However, if I drop down the "Actions" menu using the icon next to the BDC
value in the list and choose View Profile, that DOES take me to the View
Profile page that displays the fields from the BDC for that value.
Choosing View Profile from the drop down menu goes to the URL:
http://server/ssp/admin/Content/BusinessUnits.aspx?BusUnit=00231
So my problem is that clicking on the value itself goes to this
"ProfileRedirect.aspx" page and then does nothing - it's broke. It's
supposed to redirect (I assume) to the View Profile page, but it never does.
I thought perhaps it was my BDC app def file, but I have a development MOSS
server and I loaded the exact same BDC definition file on it and clicking
the value redirects to the View Profile page as expected on that server. So
it's very unlikely that it is the definition file - otherwise, it wouldn't
work on either server.
I've looked at the log files and there do not appear to be any errors.
And I've tried setting up lists on multiple sites on the server and it does
the same thing on each site, and I've tried using different entities within
the BDC and none of them work correctly. I also tried deleting the BDC app
def via Shared Services and re-importing it, but that doesn't help either.
So what can I look at on my production server to see why
ProfileRedirect.aspx does not redirect? I'm at my wits end with this because
I was counting on that easy click working for an application.

moss 2007, search scope with a calculated column
Is it possible to create a site column that is a calculated column
based on the selection of another site column and then have that
calculated site column be put into a search scope? I have done the
following steps so far but when I run the search from the search box
webpart no results show up. Am I barking up the wrong tree with the
calculated site column?
1.Create a calculated site column based on the result of another site
column
2.Run full search index crawl
3.Go to search metadata property mappings
4.Create new managed property
5.Go to Site settings --> search scopes
6.Create a new display group (if necessary)
7.Create a new scope
8.Add a rule: Add the property and the value to the rule
9.Click the start update now for the search scopes in the Central
Admin search settings
10.Add the Display name to the search box webpart.

Extend Existing Web Application Error
While attempting to extend an existing application to add a site for
Internet access, I get:
An object of the type
Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebApplicationProvisioningJobDefinition
named "Provisioning dcbaf6f0-d7cd-4ed1-9edc-7f70c11d3582" already exists
under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService named "".
Rename your object or delete the existing object.
Note that the quotes contain no content.
Before bombing, the system creates the and SharePoint website under IIS,
however the site is not usable

Usage analysis stopped working
In my MOSS 2007 setup I used to be able to run usage analysis on my intranet
site, now I get an event ID error 6398 which I cannot find any info that
actually fixes the problem and when I click on site usage report or usage
analysis internet explorer returns this error:
The website declined to show this webpage
HTTP 403

I have tried reinstalling moss 2007, I have the latest updates installed, I
recycled the application pool, all these were tried with iisreset.
I cannot find any relevant information on the internet on how to fix the
problem, if there is someone that can help me fix my problem please don't

RSS Reader Suggestions
Hi All,
For a long time I've used SharpReader for my RSS feeds. However now
that we're doing internal SharePoint, we need something will pass
along NTLM credentials. IE7 and Outlook 2007 are not options as our
IS Department hasn't launched them yet.
We've been using RSS Bandit but there are feed errors that are showing
up that are only fixable by completely un-installing RSSBandit and re-
installing it.

It appears that within the last day or so, suddenly we can't create new sites
on the Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. I was able to last week, and now it
allows me to go through the whole process and then after hitting OK at the

MOSS 2007, Search Box and Search Core Results
I have created a publishing subsite and have added the search box
webpart and the search core results webpart. My problem is that I
cannot figure out how to configure the search box webpart to send its
results to the search core results webpart in the same page. The
search box keeps sending its results to the default search results
page. I would love any suggestion on how to get this to work.

MOSS 2007: BDC serach results only for admin???
Hi,
I suffer a strange issue, only the administrators can search my custom BDC
results.
Everything is crawled correctly, I test my search page, it's ok.
but when a non-administrator do a search, the BDC content is not returned by
the search engine.
the user can search anything else (site content, peoples...)
I have added my group into the BDC permission and they are allowed to
execute and select data from this catalog.
I don't see any other place to apply some permissions to my users.
so anybody know what I have to check or change?

Display App Status
Hello All,
I would like to display on the main landing page our Systems Availability.
In other words I would like to show an icon of our web site and a red/green
light right next to it. Green meaning web site is up, read meaning web site
is down. Additionally I would love to display the status of our email system
(exchange) and show the same icon. (Green) - Up
(Red) - Down. Is there a way to accomplish this in MOSS 2007?

Updating publishing pages with modifications from custom layout page with new web parts
I created a custom layout page with some default web parts and
programmatically created some pages based on my custom layout. I later
updated the layouts page with newer web parts and those web parts are
not reflecting in the pages which I created from custom layout page. I
appreciate if some body can point out the reason or error. But if I
create a new page, the new page has all the web parts. How can I make
the pages update automatically based on layout modifications( other
than web parts all other changes to layout pages are reflected in
pages created from custom layouts page).
I desperately trying to solve this from two days and could not find

quiesce farm is not working
Hi,
Im using the MOSS 2007 Virtual Server demo VHD downloaded off
microsofts site. I quiesce the farm from central administration. I can
still start new sessions and edit content on the farm, using a normal
user account ( non-farm admin ) from a different machine than the one
sharepoint is running on.

can't install french language pack for MOSS2007
Hi,
I can't install any language pack on my x64 server.
the installation says "You must install an Office 2007 system server"
so the language pack installation process doesn't detect my sharepoint 2007
installation.
it's the same thing on this server for Office 2007 himself. the language
pack installation failed.
any idea why?
my serveur is Win 2003 ent. x64, sharepoint 2007 ent., office 2007 ent.
(it's a dev serveur it's why I have everything installed on it.)

MOSS 2007 Navigation Option Missing
I am trying to create a MOSS 2007 site following the SharePoint Server 2007
Help and How-to > Site management > Creating and deleting sites > Create a
subsite under the existing site. Our create site screen does not have step 8
"In the Navigation section, select whether you want the new subsite to be
visible in the navigation of its parent site." Are there certain SharePoint

SharePoint External Data connection error
I am trying to connect to an external data source using excel
services. I have done the following
1) Added the data connection library to the trusted list.
2) Added the document library to the trusted file locations
3) Made sure the data provider for SQL server is installed on all
server in my farm and included it in the trusted data provider list
4) Made sure the ODC file resides in the trusted data connection
library.
5) Made sure the credentails are inside the ODC (less secure I know
but I am just trying to test some capabilities of Excel services) and
specified authentication as "None".I do not have Kerberos enabled and
I don;t believe I need it if the data connection is embedded in the
ODC file.
6) Made sure to allow data connection to be embedded in Excel files as
well as from trusted data connection libraries.
I still cannot connect to the external data

Copy list item?
I'm new to this so if I've posted in the incorrect place, please let me know
and I will gladly repost in the correct area.
I am working with WSS 2.0 and I have been given the task of finding a way to
automate or simplify the creation of a duplicate issue in a list. I have
seen many posts on how to copy items between lists, but I don't know how to
adapt that to what I need to do. Basically, we have a visitor to the site
fill in newform.aspx and then we bring it to review and if a certain criteria
is met, we need to be able to quickly duplicate the list item so that it gets
it's own issue ID, but everything else stays the same (including, hopefully,
the date and time the original issue was created, but that's not imperative).
Possibly, we'd like to leave some fields blank that might be filled out in
the original, but once again, not imperative, just nice to have.
Is this possible? Can someone provide me some guidance on this?

You could delete theSharePoint logs.
Disable logging and then enable logging.
