    - Anyway to add "Modified By" column to lists? Maybe there is an easier way to achieve what i'm doing. I simply want to track user posts to a custom list. I tried a text column with =me, but that returns the domain credentials. I'd rather it return the display name like the "modified by" column in a doc lib.     - Virus Risk Hi All, I administer a medium-sized server farm, hosting portals for 6 or 7 clients. Hosting Sharepoint is our core business, and the data on the servers *is* the company. I have implemented what I consider to be a good backup and recovery strategy, using RAID disks and tape backups. I have practiced full and partial backup and restores to prepare for DR scenarios. Having searched on google, I am unable to find a clear answer to this question though - and I'm hoping that some of you guys can share your experiences. Does Sharepoint put us at an increased virus risk? All our portals contains many document libraries, which are heavily used. I have no control over the end-user's systems (including anti-virus). Our servers are behind a hardware firewall, and I keep on top of MS security updates when they are issued. But it strikes me that uploading to a document library neatly bypasses any security we have in place. I notice SPS allows me to configure anti-virus settings, if I have the relevant software installed. Are we at an increased risk of picking up a virus? If we did, potentially what damage could be caused? Does anyone have any recommendations for Sharepoint compatable AV software? Any other recommendations? Perhaps there is some kind of best practice or KB article about this. As I said, searching on the subject does not produce conclusive results, so I am keen to hear real experiences!     - Accessing Sharepoint controls Hi, I have created a custom application that displays in a popup window from a WSS contact NewForm.aspx page. The custom app does a lookup into a separate database by a person's name to retrieve an ID. I need to be able to click on the ID and autofill the Sharepoint contact form web part with the retrieved data from the custom app. I have the javascript that will accomplish this task when I know the id of the textbox. I have viewed the source of the newform.aspx page, but I cannot find this in the html at all. Here is the javascript that passes the data from the popup window to a asp textbox that I manually added to the NewForm.aspx page.     - Difference b/w databases of WSS and SPS Hi; When we installed WSS, it created a config database i.e. sts_config and when we installed it also created a config database i.e. sps_config. Are both these databases different? Can we select WSS database i.e. sts_config for the SPS database when it prompts to select the config database?     - Deployment Scenario? Hi; It is confirmed that SPS does not support AD Account Creation Mode, so what would be the best deployment scenario for us where we want to give that feature to clients. We want to give that feature to clients where they can add users and we also want to give them features which are not provided by WSS and supported by SPS like Audiance, my site, personal websites etc. But, here we can't merge these two things together.     - Can't open documents in Wss or SPS Hello, I'd like to know if someone here can help me with this. First, the system configuration 1.- Windows Server 2003 R2 2.- SPS2003 and WSS both with SP2. 3.- SQL2000 + sp4 4.- PCs using Windows XP SP2 + Office 2003 SP2 The problem goes this way. When I try to open a document from Sharepoint (wss o sps) it does not open. MS Word, for instante simply says "Can't open http://....". This happens when I try to open the doc from sharepoint or from a mapped web folder. This is not happening to all documents but most of them. If I simply restart de server, then everything works fine for a day or two (not sure about that) and starts to fail again. I've put the url of my portal and the wss sites in the thrusted zones. IIS web sites are using integrated authentication (keep alive enabled) All apppools are running under a user with enought prvileges. No errors in the event viewer. I can connect tothe BBDD and with Sql tools, get the doc, no problem there. And, something very strange, when this happens, pdf documents or mde files can't open at all. Sharepoint does no even tries to open acrobat or access. I just get an error in the IE. I have no idea about what's the problem :(( I think i've read something about the the IIS worker process...     - Error when restoring site. When I go to restore a my site I get: Microsoft.Sharepoint.Portal.Install.DuplicateDirectoryExeception right on the restore interface. The Databases restore and just after they hit 100% the error occurs. The databases exist but the site does not. The main complication I see is that Im moving the site from one domain to another and the users on the database are the users of the former domain. However, the SPS and database are local and the service accounts have Administrator rights on the server and within SQL security. I've google this error for a while now with no real luck. Any ideas? I've tried adding my web service dLL in to safecontrol list in the web config. Also i've set the trust level to full.     - SPS 2003 with ASP.net 2.x Dear All, I am doing integratin of WSS wiith SPS 2003 and when i want to add the link to site in SPS2003 I am getting this JavaScript Error. 'webForm_PostBackoptions' is undefined I have done this integration on two other machine but there was no problem,the only difference with the new machine is it has SQL Server and Visual studio 2005 .So it seems that there is conflict between SPS2003 and ASP.NET 2.0.     - Multiple authentication prompts in SharePoint We are running SharePoint Services and have recently upgraded to Office 2003. We are using SSL authentication. Whenever accessing an Office product such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint from a SharePoint site, we are prompted to authenticate again, even though we have permission to access the site and have already been authenticated when signing on.     - Task List Attachments My company is deploying a Share Point Team Site and we hope to use the task list for projects. After each person completes a task they will upload an attachment. When the project has all task completed we need to take all attachments and send them to our customer. Currently the only way to do this is to open each attachment and download one at a time. We are setting up groups in Active Directory that relate to our Sharepoint sites so that we only have to go to one place to manage security. I have added DOMAIN\All Users to the site as Readers.     - spsbackup - the sharepoint backup tool must execute on a web client I'm setting up a test system here to restore a production sharepoint and I've come across something I don't understand. When I execute spsbackup it gives me a message like 'The sharepoint backup tool must execute on a web client', I say like because I'm translating from spanish where the original message is 'La herramienta de copia de seguridad de sharepoint portal debe ejecutarse en un equipo client web'. My setup is 2003 server with sql 2000 (enterprise) and sps 2003. My initial reaction was to instal the sql client tools but this has had no effect. What on earth does it mean by client web? - WebDav client? Sql client? I've searched around without finding anything so far. I've also reinstalled both sql 2000 and sps 2003, just in case.     - Moving documents between libraries I am in the process of upgrading to sps2003. I have imported my document library from 2001, but it only allows import into the top level doc lib. I want to split the doc lib into several sub areas. When i do this some or all of the meta data is lost. Can anyone advice on a way to do this?     - SessionID Changes in Sharepoint Page to Page Does SharePoint do anything odd with Sessions? I was doing some testing to make sure someone goes through the right route to get to my Sharepoint application (in development). I have a web part on the Portal Home Page (http://myportal/default.aspx) that displays the SessionID (this.Page.Session.SessionID) and then I redirect via relative URL to an Area Page (/myArea/default.aspx) and display the Session ID again. They are different. My thought was that they would be the same. I am using an "In Process" Session storage and its all on one server. Any ideas why this is?     - DocLib Event Handler: "Access is denied" I am attempting to write a document library event handler so that every time a document in SourceDocLib changes, a copy of the file is written to DestDocLib. As long as SourceDocLib and DestDocLib are in the same WSS site, everything works as it should. When I change the event handler to copy the file to a DestDocLib in an Area, I get an "Access is denied" exception. I am running IE under the SharePoint Administrator account, which created the Area to begin with. I can navigate to the Area and create a doc manually.     - Help with SharePoint Site I would like to make a personnel page where on left side of the page I would have 3 colums of personnel name listings and on the right side a picture of a specific person.     - Lookup of user information Hi. I have a document library of Infopath forms. One of the fields exposed to SPS from the form is "Office", which is populated automatically from Active Directory when the form is filled out. I want to filter a view of the library so that the user only sees forms that have the same value for Office as the Office property in their SPS user profile. I tried to add a lookup column to the library, but under "user information", it only allows the selection of display name, ID, email, and user name.     - Restoring SharePoint Server 2003 Shared Services I have restored our Shared services server and everything looks good but when I click on files or images or anything within a Webpart I get the following error: "Could not open 'http://URL/Document Library/document name.xls.'' Then when I click ok on this error I get the folowing: Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file'http://URL/Document Library/document name.xls' There are several possible reasons: TheFile name or path does not exist. The file is being used by another program. The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook." Does anyone know why all the files in Document libraries or image libraries are doing this? Everything else from the restore seems to working ok now just not the important stuff. Thanks for any help.     - Problems with Configuration - can't find any solutions :( We are running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on Windows 2003 box in an Active Directory Domain. I originally set it up using WMSDE and all was fine. As time passed, we decided to migrate it to an SQL Server (SQL2005 box also in the same AD domain). I followed the instruction on the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/wss/2/all/adminguide/en-us/stsf17.mspx?mfr=true. However, since I've migrated, I have a couple of issues. The first issue is that in the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration section, under the Configure Server Topology page, I have the following error. Critical Issues: The current topology is not supported. It also states "View current configuration issues with this deployment", however there is no additional information. My Configuration database server is the SQL server, the Content database server and the Component settings database server are showing the original WMSDE location and the SQL server. That's probably the problem. However, enough time has passed while I've been trying to figure this out that if I remove either of them, I'm afraid I'm going to lose portals/pages, etc. The problems it's causing are #1 - Search from the Top Portal Site returns "Your search encountered an error. If the problem persists, contact the portal site administrator." #2 - The profile database returns an error of "Fail to retrieve locale from site database - Error (î?¸Ê²ì??ç?§ì?¤ç?§ä±ªç¤?ä±ªç¤?ì?´Ë¾î??Ê²Ë¨". The server is able to talk to Active Directory and and find new users, etc. I've looked through this Discussion Group and on the Internet exhaustively. I've found a couple of things to try, but nothing is working. One more important item, it appears that Sharepoint is actually using information from both places (local and SQL). If I have existing sites, will all the data remain intact when upgrading to 2007, more specifically the Discussion threads. I understand that I can have as many "records respository" wss sites as I
like. However, I can only connect the portal to a single records repository.
So from any wss site that I execute a "send to" on a document to a records
repository will send to the same one. Ideally I would like to send the docs
from some WSS sites to a certain records repository and from other WSS sites
to a different repository. Any one know how I could do that?
