    - Unable to Open .txt Files Containing XML tags in Content One of our SharePoint sites is used as a repository of log files and screen shots used to troubleshoot problems with our in-house applications. QA uploads the files, which are then used by themselves and Development to hopefuly fix the problems. This solution has worked well until recently, when a QA engineer uploaded a .txt log file to the SharePoint site, which was a Web Services Trace file. The content of the file is primarily a string of XML tags. Attempts to open the file result in a "the XML page cannot be displayed" error. How can I configure SharePoint to always interpret .txt files as text, and not try to translate the contents as IE documents? Any help will be greatly appreciated.     - Downgrade from .NET 2.0 to .NET 1.1 Hello, I'm using SPS 2003, and I upgraded one of my portal to .NET 2.0 Well, as you know it was a very bad idea : I now get the WebForm_PostBackOptions error message when I add a new top level site. (When I saw this : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907763, it was alreay too late..) I would like to know if there is a way to 'downgrade' SPS to .NET 1.1 or, if it's not possible, if a backup of my portal and a restore to a brand new portal would work ?     - Error: Unable to connect to the database xxx_SITE... Hi there, we got some major issues with the stability in our Large Server Farm. It's almost identical to the known issue KB #835225, only that this was supposed to be fixed in SP1 and we got SP2 running (on the whole farm - 6 servers). It's the german version of the SPS 2003 with SP2, in addition the Index & Job Server has been supplied with the Post-SP Hotfix #913373 due to crashes while crawling the german contents. Our infrastructure: 2 Front-End-Servers with NLB in Unicast Mode 2 Search Servers 1 Job & Index Server 1 Database Server (SQL 2000) All running the german version of Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 with SP2. Portal_Content Index: 28.000 docs, 50 MB Non_Portal_Content Index: 70.000 docs, 200 MB most of it german content... While crawling the site, both Front-End-Servers are under heavy load (>90% CPU) and start throwing Errors. In the Event log we find the following entries ("hundreds" of those): Event ID: 1000 Type: Error Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Category: None Description: #50070: Unable to connect to the database xxx_SITE on SQL Server yyyy. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. When we try to limit the load by setting a Hit Frequency Rule for the Search Service in the Central Administration, the errors occur a little less but are not gone completely...!     - Possible to filter discussion board content? I'm new to SP so please direct me elsewhere if appropriate. By "filter" in my question above I am wondering if it is possible to tailor discussion board content to a site / page. For example, let's say I have a company producing three products and have created team sites for each, with all three sitting below a corporate web site. I would like to have a discussion board on the corporate web site that captures all product discussions, but then have boards on the product web sites that only capture discussions concerning the relevant product.     - Partially solved - Hi, Sorry for reposting but the previous post was incomplete... I partially solved the problem with adding the lists to MySite onet.xml (SPSPERS template) in order to get them created each time a new user creates his/her personal site. This are the elements I added: <List Title="Meus documentos" Type="101" Url="Meus documentos" Description="Document library to store private documents.">   </List> <List Title="Minhas tarefas" Type="107" Url="Minhas tarefas" Description="Use this task list to store your tasks.">   </List> the only difference from my previous attempt was the removal of the QuickLaunchUrl attribute in <List> element. The only thing missing is changing these lists permissions at create time so that they become private when a new user creates a MySite. Any ideas on how I can achieve this?     - Limit on News Listing Title Length? Hello, We have some news listing with titles that are longer than 100 characters, which seems to be the SharePoint limit. Is there a way to remove this limit, so that the whole news item title will be displayed in the listings? For example, the listing page has three listings, including: "Milwood Properties, Inc. Hosts Professional Career Expo; Global Education Leader To Fill More Than 7" Obviously, there is more to the title, but SP cut off anything over 100 characters. Thanks.     - Site Migration - SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007 hi, I have a query related Site Migration from SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007. We have a site created in wss 2.0 and now we are migraing to wss 3.0 . While doing so i tried to restore the back up of my site directly, expecting that it will automatically upgrade it.     - Getting Error during Crawl I created a Content Source in SP Shared Services Administrator and clicked Edit and Tried - Start full crawl of this content source and pressed Ok. it does not crawl at all and provides the following error - http://mymachine:9000/sites/MySite/pages Error in the Site Data Web Service.     - Solved programmatically create private lists Hi all, I just found a way (not elegant) to remove permissions on doc libs or other lists after creation programmatically.     - Editing onet.xml to add lists and set permissions Hi all, I want to add a private task list to Mysite and tried to edit onet.xml in the SPSPERS template to achieve that.     - SharePoint Beta 2007: Trail Period Expired Hi, I have installed SharePoint Beta 2007 on a virtual server. Installation goes fine but after complete installation, I get the error that "Trail period has expired". and after that I cannot do anything.     - Front Page 2003 Data View Web Part Migration to V3/MOSS At the SharePoint 2006 conference, we heard warnings about problems when migrating Front-Page modified pages from WSS v2/SPS to WSS v3/MOSS. Specifically, the modified pages can be migrated "as is", but not get the benefit of v3 (e.g., improved navigation), or they can be "reverted" to default, gain the benefits but lose the customization. Since we are just now putting SharePoint 2003 into production (and no, muich as we'd like to we can't just wait until 2007 is ready), we are thinking in terms of dissuading or disallowing FP on our 2003 sites. Recently, I've seen some discussion of FP's Data View Web Part that seems very interesting.     - Calculating tp_size in UserData Table All - I am trying to insert a record from an external data source to a SharePoint list. Everything is going very smoothly except I cannot accurately determine the value for tp_size per record. The MSDN documentation states that tp_size = the size of the data, but when I try adding up the DATALENGTHS for the values of an already existing record, I don't seem to match the tp_size of the record 100% of the time. Does anyone have any idea as to how I can calculate the tp_size of a record I am going to be insertting into the UserData table?     - HttpModule and SPS with .NET 1.1 Hey All, I'm having the following problem. I have an HttpModule, compiled under .NET 2.0. With WSS running under ASP.NET 2.0, placing this module in WSS's bin folder and setting WSS's trustLevel to Full allows the module to run without incident. I need to get the same module to run with SPS under ASP.NET 1.1. I recompiled the module to use .NET 1.1 (using MsBee) w/o incident. I have the HttpModule in the wwwroot/bin folder exactly as it was with WSS with the following relevant lines in my web.config file: <add name="SSOModule" type="OpSource.HttpModules.SSOHttpModule"/> <trust level="Full" originUrl="" /> the only difference between the above config and the WSS ASP.NET 2.0 config is the trustLevel line. under ASP.NET 2.0, the trustLevel line looks like this: <trust level="Full" originUrl="" processRequestInApplicationTrust="false" /> When i attempt to access SPS after performing the above, i get an error that refers to loading the module and references the <add XML stanza.     - MSNBC Web part Temperature Change Issues I am working for a client that installed the MSNBC Weather Web Part on a few SPS and WSS Sites. Sometimes when you go to the sites it says one temperature and other times another temperature.     - Cannot add users from trusted domain Hi. A have a strange problem. A few weeks ago we set up a trust between two domains and succesfully added users from the other domain and imported their profiles. However, when looking the user profiles, they where imported with the old pre-Windows 2000 domain-name. So I deleted the connection to the domain (in Sharepoint) to start all over again. Now my problem is that while I can still import profiles fine, I'M NOT ABLE TO ADD USERS FROM THE TRUSTED DOMAIN. When I try adding a user with newdomain.dk\user1, this is the error I get: "None of the users or cross-site groups you entered could be added. Please make sure there were no typing mistakes on the previous page and semicolons were used to separate the names." When I try a different approach - to add a user like this: newdomainpre2000name\user1 I do get one step further, being asked to add additional information.     - I logged in but ain't getting any page... Hey folks, My clients' Sharepoint server was recovered by a third party. They had to do an inplace windows upgrade to restore some dll's. The dll's had to be restored because windows was (for reasons still unknown) replacing new dll's with old ones. At least now I can login again BUT, when I browse to the portal I get a login prompt but after I login (the login is OK) no pages are served. Any ideas what I should look for on that server? I started fooling around with the Sharepoint Server install, and it broke everything. I've uninstalled everything, repaired multiple times, done everything I can think of short of human sacrifice. The repair/installation works fine. I get the "You need to reboot to finish this" message. I reboot. I run the configuration wizard. I took a basic Issue List in SharePoint 2007 and added a column (for enduser)
but in Create New or Edit Views the new column replaced the Status column
instead of being added in. Now I can't change the status of my issues - I can
only delete them. This defeats the purpose of what I was trying to do.

I assume this is one of those pesky beta issues but is there a work-around?
