    - Removing Permissions When SPS 2003 was first installed my site was trusted to 3 different domains. As a result I added group domain accounts access to various sections of my portal. Now that the trusts are gone and the secondary domains no longer have access I would like to remove those permissions but receive the following error: 'Could not find user with corresponding SID in the domain.     - User's MySite has corrupted webpart I have a user that has a corrupted "Content Editor Web Part" on his MySite. Nothing, is in the webpart, and I don't know what happended to get in it this state. When you try to click on "Modify Page" or the drop down arrow for the part itself, IE throws a Runtime Error, "do you wish to debug" message. But, I have deleted the site, from site settings, site administrator, and the command line several times, and always the same thing. When he clicks on MySite for the first time after it is deleted, it does not go through the creating process, it just jumps back the site that was there before with the same corrupted webpart.     - Shared Workspace Task Pane when using Excel When I open an Excel file using the hyperlink presented from a search in sharepoint, the shared workspace task pane does not always appear. I have to use Cntrl + F1 to get it open. This happens on all excel documents within the portal and connected WSS sites even with Admin privileges. Funny thing is that it does not happen ever in Word.     - URGENT : Error in XML file create or overwrite I have create an XML file through an ASP.Net application,using XmlTextWriter.It works fine for sometime,then it starts giving me problem when i try to overwrite it again and gives following error:- The process cannot access the file "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\configuration.xml" because it is being used by another process. But my file is neither open nor in use anywhere.When i save this same Xml file out of the Layouts folder the problem does not come.     - "There has been a network or file permission error" message I'm suddenly having several Win2K/Office2K clients getting the following error when they try to do any Office editing directly from a Network Place mapped to their Private Docs (or other area) on SPS2003: "There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost. <filename>" The only option is to click OK to close the window. They can still upload docs via the "upload document" button in the browser interface, but can no longer do anything via Network Places - the above error comes up every time.     - Authenticatoin successful on second attempt I have a Sharepoint client that on the first attempt to browse the wss site they get " When I looked at the "unfriendly" version of the error page, it said that I was being rejected since my request included a WWW-Authenticate header that the server was not configured to accept".     - WSS Document Library in Explorer View When logged into the WSS Site as the site administrator (or any of the site users, for that matter.) if I click on 'Explorer View' I am prompted for credentials, which are not accepted.     - Attn Bill English RE Resource Kit Question On page 17 of the Resource kit (second paragraph under Authentication) it states: "Account creation mode is a feature you must select when you install Windows Sharepoint Services. This feature is not available in SPS 2003 because the default is Domain Mode". Then in the Note box at the bottom of the same page it states: "Active Directory is not required for WSS or SPS 2003 to operate...for best results deploy Sharepoint Products and Technologies in an Active Directory environment". Ok...now I'm confused. Isn't this saying that you can't select Active Directory in SPS because it defaults to Domain Mode (and I've installed it several times and can't seem to find where to select AD in SPS like I could when I installed only WSS) but then is saying it's better to use SPS technology with Active Directory.     - SharePoint and SSL I followed the steps outlined in TechNet in applying SSL to SharePoint. The process seems to have worked and the portal pages and information is 128 bit secured. I created a new site the other day and found that users information doesn't return coreectly from the profile database. I dug into the event logs and found the follwing error: Error #1 - The content source <spss://ncb1sda0920/site$$$people> cannot be accessed. Context: https://ncb1sda0920/ Application, Portal_Content Catalog Details: An unrecognized HTTP status was received. Check that the address can be accessed using Internet Explorer.     - Step by step expanding multilevel collapsible navigation bar I need a collapsible navigation bar similiar as shown in the article http://www.sharepointcustomization.com/wss/articles/lists-navigation.htm. Because my basic Dokument Library List will have over 4'000 entries, I need a multilevel collapsible navigation bar (for 4 groups). The normal SPS allows only 2 groups, so I have converted my View with MS Front Page 2003 to a XSLT Data View. I have the "Sort & Group" for all 4 groups: checkbox-field "show group headings" on and checkbox-field "collect group" on. Now the Page shows the first level-group with all collected dependent groups as required. But when I click on the + Icon to expand a group for the next level, all dependent group-level will be expanded instead of only the next group-level.     - Alerts and the SMTP Server Hello, In the "Add Alert" area, the email address option is greyed out and disabled. I have read that sharepoint needs an SMTP server to be configured. I have configured this through Sharepoint Central Administration to use a mail server that I already have setup. I don't want to use the SMTP server that is built into IIS in Windows 2003. I already have a mail server setup and running for this particular domain. I can use that right? Or do I HAVE to use an SMTP virtual server on the Sharepoint server itself? Sometimes user receive the following error: <file://./backofficestorage.....> Workflow state transition wasn't saved. Please make sure that a user performing state change has appropriate permissions. With regards to viewing/updating content on SPS/WSS 2003 using these older operating systems are there any issues that I should be aware of, or is there a list published somewhere that highlights what does/doesn't work properly. Hi there, Would like to ask question 'how to avoid multiple login when editing files in sps2003, if the client machine didn't logon to domain controller' My case like this, all servers centralised in site1, all users centralised in site2, site3, site4, site5. Site2-5 would like to access site1 server's via https. No local file servers available in site2-5. Then I setup sps2003 server in site1, not yet with SSL encryption, & let site2-5 users access it. After the initial login, all users can browse the files. However when they edit any file on sps2003, it prompted for login again. For client side, machines are wxpsp2+office2003sp1, or wxpsp1+office2003sp1. Already tried IE's "trusted site" & "auto logon with current username & password", both cannot help.     - Global Customization - Top Nav Bar I am able to easily modify the Navigation Bar on my Portal site by using FrontPage, but I would like to figure out how to make changes to the Navigational Bar (across the top of the page) that permeate through the entire SPS site (in other words, if I click on a "News" item, that page only displays the generic NavBar which doesn't match my home page's Nav Bar). I was able to make this global change in WSS sites by modifying one of the Onet.xml files, but I just don't seem to be able to find the proper file or files to modify for SPS sites...     - Adding to Word Trusted Publishers Through Sharepoint and Certificate Authority Hi All: This has elements of Office, Small Business Server and Sharepoint, so I'm going to post to all three groups in the hope of finding an answer. Our office runs Small Business Server 2003, and uses the included Sharepoint Companyweb as its intranet. As part of that, we have put our Word 2003 templates onto companyweb. Works slick....except that some of our templates have a VBA program, running as a macro, that is blocked whenever Word is in High Security for macro's. We could go to Medium security, but it's a pain for users to click on enabling all the time, or we could go to low security (which I won't do for obvious reasons). My question is how, if at all, I can certify the macro or the Sharepoint site so that individual users can leave settings on High security, and still run this particular macro. Can it be done with our SBS box as a Certification Authority, or am I going to have to go third party? Is third party the only way to add someone to Trusted Publishers for Word? Yes, I know that selfcert can solve this, but as I understand, it has to be run on each individual workstation, and I'd rather not have to go through all of it.     - error creating audiences I'm getting this error when trying to create an audience: "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" I am specifying a "User" Operand, a "Member of" Operator and enter the name of a local windows group for the Value.     - BackUP a SSL Site i´d installa SSL to my sites and change the url batch file that makes the backup, stsadm.exe backup...bla bla ejem: Before http://site.cia.com (works fine before install SSL) After https://site.cia.com (dont work) and it send me the error that i must specified a correct url and port i put https://site.cia.com:444 and it didnt work yet... do i put a other parameter or something like that to backup a SSL Site? thanks Tag: post SP1 slowdown?     - NLBS and Sites OK. I am confused. I set up NLBS and installed Portal Server following the instructions in the Resource Kit ch. 12, or so I thought. However. when I go into central administration from the console of either front end machine, my URL defaults to http://coapp25 and so on, which is the netbios name of the local machine. Also, when I go, via browser, to http://InsideVDOT, manage portal site, and then central administration, I am directed to the netbios name and admin port of one or the other front-end web servers. When I installed, I used Entend and Map to Another Virtual Server. I have configued Alternate access on both FE servers. The biggest problem is this: When I create TopLevel Sites (i.e. http://insidevdot/sites/districtplanners) They appear to exist only on CoApp24 (one front end web-server. Sometimes endusers can get to them via the URL and sometimes they cannot (presumably depending on what FE server they are being directed to by NLBS). Moreover, if I run stsadmin on either box using the enumsites option, I get a full list of sites on CoApp24 but none on CoApp25. How do I refresh the config cache on the other web servers? Or is that what I want to do? Is there an error in configuration? If so, how do I fix it, since we are going to be creating 500+ sites very soon. I just installed WSS and SPPS SP1 yesterday. Now my server is extremely
slow doing even the smallest task (opening the main page, adding a user to a
site, creating an area, moving web parts around, etc). It could be related
to other network issues that are going on, just trying to make sure that SP1
isn't the cause.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

Is it possible to uninstall SP1 if need be? Thanks.
