    - Do i need optional Backwards compatible components if using BCDL and upgrading from 2001? Hi, i'm upgrading from sharepoint portal 2001 to sharepoint portal 2003, and understand i need the backwards compatible library for my 2001 documents until i can migrate them into sql server. However i am confused by the .chm file which also refers to optional components for the backward-compatible document store. Can anyone tell me whether this is something i need in order to manupulate and manage the documents i import into the backwards comp doc library? Or is this just an optional component to install if you fancy using a web store but have no 2001 documents to import, but i will already have it as long as i perform the upgrade correctly, and install the BCDL? Also if i added custom fields to a document profile and populated these fields for documents, will this data be accessible in the BCDL? The upgrade doc : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/office/office2003/deploy/upgrdmigrate/spST2003.asp matches the .chm, but the .chm (microsoft office sharepoint portal server 2003 administrators guide) in the Upgrading from Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 section has a Quick Installation Guide section which mentions the Installing the Component for Backward-Compatible Document Libraries under the installing microsoft office sharepoint portal server 2003 on a single computer section.     - page templates including webparts Hi Guys, I hope this is possible as otherwise its gonna be a pain in the arse... What I'm trying to do is create a template for sub-areas of a particular area. What I'd like is for these sub-area templates to include the web parts for the page. I have sort of managed to do this, but the way I did it means its simply a copy of the same data in each sub-area and if i change the data in one, it changes in all of them. Is there a way that the web parts can be included and contain a basic amount of data that can be changed to suit each new sub-area without affecting the other sub-areas? I hope this makes sense...     - Administrator cannot create Survey in SPS2003 Hi I am an administrator, and I cannot create a survey in SPS2003, I get the 'Login Box' appearing when I click NEXT, having entered the name of the survey. I send myself an access request, and add myself to all the groups, but still I cannot create a survey. The same goes for everyone else.     - Document Profile can't be selected New documents I place in enhanced folders have a blank "Select a profile" list - I can't choose anything to classify under. It accepts Ok for something that is deemed a required field. I created another Document Profile from the Base Document template and provided it to the folders but still no joy.     - Problem in Approval Hello, Can anybody help me? We are using Windows Sharepoint Services (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/sh arepoint/default.mspx) for document management and on one site that we have giving problem in content approval. We have a sub site and whenever the site administrator uploads any files the files goes into pending (Approval Status) list. However if am not wrong the files uploaded by a site administrator should get approved automatically where as here that is not working, it goes in the pending list. We need to fix this problem in such away that if the site administrator uploads any files it should approved automatically. This problem is only on one sub site and all the settings seem to be fine. On the Document Library, is there any way to set these properties true by default? I haven't found any support on this in CAML / Onet.xml.     - PDF icon on searched docs I have installed the adobe Ifilter on my sps 2003 server as per Microsoft KB 832809. When I add a new pdf in my portal, it does get indexed and the adobe icon appears beside the doc in my document library. The problem is when I do a search. The document returns in the search results(good it does get indexed), but no icon is displayed beside the doc. Aslo when I go to the site settings, configure search and indexing, include file types, beside the pdf extension I do not see the icon.     - Site Administration page (cant find it) Going thru help pages and the Sharepoint 2003 Administrators Guide there are instructions to go to the Site Administration guide to do some administration stuff. But I cannot find the page. Here is one example: 1.. On the Site Settings page for your Web site, under Administration, click Go to Site Administration. 2.. On the Site Administration page, under Users and Permissions, click Manage site groups. The site groups available for the Web site are displayed on the Manage Site Groups page. One of the area called SERVICES and i created one sub area inside SERVICES called CUSTOMER.when i clicked on the services the url that it give is http://server/services/default.aspx , then when i cliked on the customer under the services, it give me the url http://server/c1/services/default.aspx.     - Error: Import AD User Profiles Failed to retrieve the current domain name from the Active Directory directory services This is the error I get when I try to "Configure Profile Import I did something silly. I used a local Svc admin account for everything when I setup SPS2003. I tried changing the Access Account to a Domain Admin account. However, it looks like the problem is perhaps deeper?     - When to use Sharepoint Portal Servicesversus a web site? Let me start by apologizing for my lack of knowlege, but I know very little about SharePoint Portal Server. This may be a very basic question. I run a computer user group and we were planning to implement a web site that will have public-facing informational pages, public forums, and an internal collaboration area for the user group leaders.     - Workspace Creation Failure From Office 2003 I've just installed the demo SPS2003/WSS on a WIN2003 DC with no apparent install problems. The workstations are XP/Office 2003 and on a domain. None of the Office team services seem to function. The creation of meeting workspaces and document workspaces fail with an error that says: First, Your attempt to create a Meeting Workspace or link to an existing one can't be completed.
