    - Can't hit the site by name but I can hit by IP Hi All, I have a sharepoint site on a box. I can hit the box by going to the ip address http://10.0.0.1/default.aspx but I can not hit it by name. The password dialong box comes up and it rejects my domain password. Says you are not authorized. When I use the IP the password dialong box comes up and it accepts my credentials and lets me proceed to the site. What am I missing here? Any help is greatly appreciated.     - Missing KPI Lists? I don't have the "KPI List" option available when I try to create a new list in MOSS2007. I used the slipstream method of installing MOSS 2007 with B2TR (not sure if this has anything to do with the issue). What is required in order to have access to create KPI lists? Also, not sure if this was caused by the B2TR, but I no longer have the "Report Center" site template available when I create new sites. One final note, again not sure if it's relevant, but I can't seem to find where to enable / start Excel Calculation Services. All of my documentation says that it should be listed on the Central Admin > Operations > Services on Server page, but it's not there. Also may be due to B2TR? I don't necessarily want to use Excel Services, but only mention it here in case it's required for KPIs. My (Virtual PC) system is built upon Windows Server 2003 R2 and SQL Server 2005. I also tried installing SQL Analysis Services, then re-running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, in case this was a prerequisite. Seemed to have no effect. Thanks!     - Integrate ASP.NET Applications into SharePoint 2007 Hi there, My company plans to change the Website-CMS from Opentext Livelink Obtree C4 to SharePoint 2007. Right now, i'm testing around with SharePoint Server 2007 Beta 2 TR. My job is to elaborate how this change could be done technically. From my point of view, there are two major problems for solving this task: 1. How convert all the Java-Code and server side JavaScripts (SSJS) into a .NET language 2. How integrate the code and applications into Sharepoint 2007 For the first problem i thought to convert or even rewrite the code to J# or JScript as they are very close to Java and SSJS. If there isn't really a lot of reusable code, i thought to rewrite the code direct in C#. However, this seems to be a lot of work but I think there is no other way doing this. (other ideas?) For the second problem I haven't really found a good solution. Especially how to integrate a ASP.NET application with several pages and own logic. I know there are about 4 different possibilities doing this but none of these seems to fits our needs (Web Parts, SmartParts, _Layout Application, Page Viewer Web Part). A thought the simplest way to bring this app to SharePoint is to do it with a Page Viewer Web Part. But as it is not possible to access the SP-Model out of the Page Viewer (why don't they call it MS Iframe :-)) i searched another solution. A _Layout Application is also bad because it doesen't take the master page from sharepoint. So do I really have to rewrite all the business-logic in a Web Part or Smart Part??     - Problem with subscription management in Sharepoint 2001 SP3 (10.145.7329) My third and last question: We have a single Sharepoint 2001 server, with three workspaces in it. Subscriptions are delivered from all workspaces in this server, yet we are unable to manage the subscriptions in one of the workspaces. While trying to use the "Subscriptions" dashboard ( in http://Server/Workspace1/Portal/Subscriptions/ ) we encounter the following error message: "ÓõíäñïìÝò ãéá ROSHI\ManosPe ÁðÝôõ÷å ç åìöÜíéóç áðïôåëåóìÜôùí óõíäñïìÞò ãéá " as the text above is in greek, here is equivalent message in english: "Subscription Summary: Failed to get subscription results for " The odd thing is that when we try the same for other workspaces in the same SPP server (http://Server/Workspace2/Portal/Subscriptions/ etc), they work fine!     - Some services missing after MOSS 2007 BTR2 slipstream install Strange problem after slipstream installation of MOSS 2007 B2TR (premium key) on win server 2003 R2 (clean virtual box). Right after installation I see a very limited list of available services, just WSS services, no any Office Sharepoint ones. So, I cannot even create a SSP, because, it requires Indexer which I cannot create without a Office Server Search.     - problems with sharepoint portal server searching we currently have one sharepoint portal server (2003 with sp1) on a windows 2003 server machine, and the database is housed on a windows 2003 server, with sql server 2000. we are in a situation where we can search documents from the portal site, but when we are within any of our sites and try to search, no results are displayed. we are not sharepoint gurus by any means, but it seems like the sites are not included in the search crawls. is there a setting i need to check to make sure this happens? any help would be greatly appreciated. shannon pace Tag: password change can't access for 24 hours Tag: 86387

    - Cannot see Office 2003 Web Parts and Components after install, or perhaps I do not know where to go? I downloaded the "Office 2003 Add-in: Web Parts and Components to my Windows 2003 server where Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 is installed. File was STSTPKPL.exe. It installed sucessfully. However I cannot see any of the web parts. IN particular I wanted to test the view of the Excel spreadsheet I created from EXCEL. I put the 3 generated files (dwp, solutions and XML ) to a document list named "'Web Part Gallery" which it created by default instead of you "mydocslib". When I go to the site I see these 3 files. I cannot upload the DWP file in the WEB PART GALLERY manage page because when I browse it does not allow to view docs in the DocumentList page. Should I be saving the DWP file from within Excel to another location if possible. I cannot chose the C: drive which would then allow me to browse and upload. If I could add it directly to the Gallery Web Parts then if might work. But that is not a drop down option. This allows me to add the web part and then I should be able to add web part to a web page and see the excel content. But where is the web part. Is the above install required? I thought so. I also added the WSS 2.0 Language Template Pack after the install above and then went and redid the STSTPKPL.exe in case the order was needed (I actually did the repair option of the components) second time. Still do not see the part ..also the PivotView, WebCapture or Quick quote which I thought were part of this install. Any solutions or explanations of the process?     - Consolidated Lists in MOSS 2007 Is there anyway to have a list view that is compiled of several lists of the same type. Example: If I have 30 WSS sites used to manage projects, each with a task list in it, can I have a site with a web part on it that displays all items within that list? I know there are many ways to do this writing custom code, but I wondered if MOSS 2007 offered any way to do this or something similiar out of the box.     - permissions issue - what other permissions does contributor role give?? Users with only the reader role are getting login prompts to a particular page with a custom coded web part. If I add the user to the "Contributor" role, the password prompt goes away. And here's the thing I don't understand: If I CHANGE the reader role to be EXACTLY the same as the contributor role, then there is STILL a password prompt. That doesn't make any sense to me. What other rights does the contributor role give them, if the rights are not all explicitly listed? I am really confused! When I go into the portal, then click on "Site Settings", then click on "Manage security and additional settings", then click on "Manage Site Groups", then click on each respective group, here is what I see: Settings for reader View Area View Pages Update Personal Web Parts Browse Directories User Personal Features Search Settings for contributor View Area View Pages Add Items Edit Items Delete Items from a list... Manage Personal Views Add/Remove Personal Web Parts Browse Directories User Personal Features Search Again, adding the user to the contributor role removes the password prompt. But changing the reader role to mirror the contributor role does NOT remove the password prompt. Why would that be? I want to understand what other rights are set and where before delving into code... and code would be posted to the developer forum anyway, not here. But I thought I would start here with understanding rights. One more thing... from everything I read, we are supposed to have a default group called "Guest" that supposedly cannot be deleted or altered... however, we have no such group. Should I be worried??     - Links Webpart with title? So I've searched for this quite a bit but can't seem to find a solution that will work. I'd like to have the Links webpart to display links with the hover title being the Notes field of the entry. I've tried converting to an XSLT and then modifying the HREF (< a href="{substring-before(@URL, ', ')}" title="{@Notes}" >) in the XSL but it alway returns nothing.     - Administration forms in MOSS 2007 Hi all, I am thinking to deploy a MOSS 2007 solution for a company. I am in a situation where the users need some complex forms to create and edit the sharepoint items. Using the standart administration forms would not be user friendly at all. I wonder which solution is the best to customize these administration forms : Custom Web parts or use of InfoPath 2007 Form Services. I don't know Info Path very well, so I would be very interested in anyone's feedback about Form Services to understand what is possible and what is not...     - Subwebs are not migrating I am in the process of testing out our migration of our SharePoint sites to our new server. I am running into an issue when I am importing the web data into the new location on the new server. I can get the top level website to migrate successfully however whenever I go to one of the subsites I am prompted to choose a template for that site and none of the migrated data is there. Here is a sample of the results I am getting when running the migration command (smigrate -r -w http://localhost/sites/intranet -f D:\migrated\intranet.mig). I am getting the same type of results for each subsite. Progress: Next site: http://localhost/sites/intranet/Sales Progress: Creating site: http://localhost/sites/intranet/Sales Progress: Finished creating site http://localhost/sites/intranet/Sales Progress: Beginning restore of http://localhost/sites/intranet/Sales Progress: Sending manifest Progress: Finished sending manifest Progress: The server connection timed out.     - Search Indexing Duplication problem on Redirect(301 Moved Permanen From my initial tests, it seems that the SPS Search crawler/indexer does not adhere to the redirection rules properly, thus creating duplicate entries. Consider a Url such as http://mydomain/oldPage.aspx which no longer exsists because it has been moved to http://mydomain/newPage.aspx. However there are still some documents (which cannot always be updated because of various company business rules and politics), that still point to the old Url. So to handle this correctly, if the http://mydomain/oldPage.aspx is requested, a 301 redirect is performed (i.e. with status of MOVED PERMANENTLY). From my evaluations of different search engines, when they request the old page but are redirected to the new page, the index only contains the NEW URL (since they know the page has moved permanently). However in my test with SPS Search 2007 (and 2003), the index contains 2 entries, one for the old url (because some documents are still referencing the old url) and one for the new url (since the new site structure includes the new Url). Logically the index should only contain the new Url. I know that SPS Search 2007 has duplicate collapsing, but that's not an acceptable solution for us. Is this a bug or has this been done by design?     - Migrating a WSS site collection from one server to another We currently have a server farm (2 web fe, 1 index, 1 sql) which runs sps and wss. We are considering running another WSS server in a remote location which has a site collection with all their docs in it.     - SPS Report Pack - Statistics for SharePoint Hi I have install SPS Report Pack in order to get some kind of stats reporting for our sharepoint implementation (SPS and WSS). When running RPDataExtraction I get the following problems: 1. WARNING: Unable to access the folder "Forms" at the URL http://server/Document Library/Forms However it seems that a lot of people get this and lots says just to ignore these - RPDataExtraction appears still to be running when I look at CPU Utilisation after these errors. 2. After the warnings above I get the following error message a number of times: WARNING: Unable to access site collection: ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is Closed... 3. At the end of this I get the error message: Copying data from the staging database from the reporting database... I tried; however, I keep getting "you are not authorised to view this page" even when logged on as local administrator when I try to access any of the sites, incl. Central Admin.     - sharepoint designer workflow assembly error hi, i hope this is the right forum to post this question and i hope somebody can give me an answer because im desperate now. I have sharepoint 2007 in a Windows server machine, in the same machine i have Office sharepoint designer. Im trying to build a workflow from the designer on my site, by clicking "new workflow" from the main menu. I installed the Framework 3.0. when i try to open a new workflow i get a message saying the the assembly microsoft.sharepoint.workflowactions is not found and than some action task will not be loaded. i can create the workflow, but as the message said, the only action i have is "end workflow" . Ive looked in the GAC and the dll for the workflowactions is there, with the same parameters that the program is looking for. does anybody know if i have to install anything else or where i can find information about it?? thank you very much. My current setup is as follows: The main issue that I'm having is whenever I try to attach the w3wp.exe process w/ CLR as the program type, I get the following error: "Unable to attach to the process. The debugger is not properly installed. Run setup to install or repair the debugger." I believe I have remote debugging setup on both the local and remote machine. I've ran msvsmon.exe (which was installed w/ vs 2003) on the remote machine by sharing the folder that its located in on my local machine. I've also tried running the msvsmon.exe (which was installed w/ the vs 2005) that is located on the remote machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Problem with Data entry web part I created a data entry web part to allow data to be entered into a custom list (very complex form - 100+ fields). Edit works fine and view works fine, but when I added the web part to the NewForm.aspx page, immediately, the "New" and "View" links broke on the non-customized Allitems.aspx page. the "New" link fails with a javascript error "Invalid page URL". The "View" link fails with the standard Sharepoint blank white "something bad happened" message. Interestingly, Edit works fine and so does Add when I manually go to NewForm.aspx. All pages are using the same custom web part, so it isn't related to registration. In fact, in the case of the "New" link, it never even calls the server from the main list view. My current setup is as follows: The main issue that I'm having is whenever I try to attach the w3wp.exe process w/ CLR as the program type, I get the following error: "Unable to attach to the process. The debugger is not properly installed. Run setup to install or repair the debugger." I believe I have remote debugging setup on both the local and remote machine. I've ran msvsmon.exe (which was installed w/ vs 2003) on the remote machine by sharing the folder that its located in on my local machine. I've also tried running the msvsmon.exe (which was installed w/ the vs 2005) that is located on the remote machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - IIS log file format Hi I have some logs file that include certain information that I wish to exclude as there are some lines that include data in /_vti_bin/ directory and the log also captures the activities that starts since midnight.     - Sharepoint for Document Management and Integration? Our company has been developing / supporting a practice management app. for architects offices over the past 3 years, initially developed in VB and Access / Sql, but recently re-developed in .NET 2 and MySQL. We currently have the app installed in over 30 offices in Ireland. The app. is used to track employee time sheets against projects, manage planning applications, project contacts, expenses, staff holidays, diary's etc., and generates reports using Crystal. Recently, from a number of potential clients, we are being asked for document management to manage drawing files, project specifications, version control, file revisions, etc. Our three developers are experienced in VB, .NET, SQL only, and I am not a developer but look after sales, management and future direction, My question: Is Sharepoint something we should be looking at to incorporate it into our existing app? Will it mix well with .NET and MySQL? What kind of learning curve will the developers have and will it be feasible in the short time to use them for the new dev.? Will there be a licensing issue (additional costs per user) from Microsoft in using Sharepoint? It there a site / source where we could download / buy a pre defined document management system in sharepoint, preferable designed for the Architectural practices industry? Some of our users have problems accessing SharePoint after changing their
passwords. It usually starts working the next day. This is not all of our
users but just a few. I have checked and made sure it wasn't a replication
problem with AD. Any ideas?
