    - Wrong application opens For some strange reason, whenever I use LimeWire PRO and try to use their Help or Resources drop down menus, Microsoft Office Picture Manager opens up and immediately displays the following message: Picture manager is unable to open pictures over the Internet that are not from a Windows SharePoint Services picture library. Please specify a valid library and try again. The LimeWire tech advised me that it is not a LimeWire problem. This is very confusing to me, as it just started happening and I rarely use the Picture Manager application. Before, when I used Help and Resources menus on LimeWire, Internet Explorer would open up, not Picture Manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated!     - Server Error: An error occurred while retrieving the list of Datab I have been struggling with this error in Frontpage when connecting to both a Portal and a WSS site. I am able to connect to a SQL server DB as long as it is not a complex query on a WSS server(with a complex query it shows that it is not valid xml) however, when I try the same connection on a Portal server I get "Server Error: An error occurred while retrieving the list of Databases". Both servers are on the same subnet and I am a domain admin so I have full access to both. In addition, I have created a web part that utilized a data grid connecting to the Northwind DB on a SQL DB and it worked very well on the Portal server. It has this issue wheter the authentication used to set up the connection is windows or SQL. So the issue appears to be specific to Frontpage and setting up a database connection. I have seen the KB article 831092 which indicates that I should add a Proxy entry in the web.config but we do not run a Proxy server on our network. To try to troubleshoot the issue I have set up another wss site in a new virtual server on the portal server and it gives me the exact same message. Another Domain admin is able to exactly recreate the problem from his workstation. I have also tried to connect to other SQL server DB on other servers and get the same error.     - Change Anonymous Access Settings: Shared Documents I have followed all of the instructions to enable anonymous access to a WSS site, and it works in that anonymous visitors can visit the site in "view only" mode. But when I try to change permissions on the shared document library, the Add Items and Edit Items check boxes are disabled. Only the View Items check box is enabled. Can anybody tell me what I have to do in order to enable Add/Edit Items on a document library for anonymous users?     - Access Companyweb from remote (over the www) My head is in a spin my feet dont touch the ground (to quote a well known disco classic). I am looking at the integration of Microsoft Project Proffesional with Sharepoint Portal Server via my SBS2003 system. The Sharepoint site "companyweb" works great. The teams need some guidance but the concept should be well received. I need to firstly access this "companyweb" from outside the business? Any assistance or guidance woudl be appreciated. The next phase is to install Project Server and publish access to this via the Sharepoint site. This may be complete nonsence and impossible but I want to give it a go. This will save me develping an independant company extranet with a 3rd party company. If someone could even point me in the right direction I could push on with a test environment.     - Alerts not working I'm trying to get alerts working on my Portal Server. Everything seems to be set up correctly. I receive the email notification, but when content is change in an area that I've set the alert up in, I do not get an email. An alert is not discovered. I reviewed the SPSNotifcation Log and there are no errors. The services are running, the user account that the services are running under are the database owners for the SharePoint Databases and the have access to all of the tables and procedures.     - Login issues when connecting via VPN Hello everyone. I am having issues connecting to our internal Sharepoint Portal Server when I am connected via VPN to the office. When I connect to the URL with IE, I get a "Loading..." screen. At best, after 5-10 minutes I will be prompted for authentication to the domain. After I authenticate, about 5 minutes later I will be presented with our Sharepoint Portal home page. This isn't consistent. Sometimes I can't connect at all, or maybe I am just not waiting long enough... What's odd about this is if I connect to the site using Firefox, I will be presented with a login prompt right away. I can then access the site without any problems, other than the fact that Firefox doesn't render the page as well as IE. I suspect that there must be some kind of proprietary MS html stuff going on here... I just checked out the configuration in IIS (running on W2K, so I assume that this is Sharepoint Portal Server 2000), and the site is configured for Integrated and Anonymous authentication at the Default Website level, and only Integrated Authentication on the virtual directory for our Sharepoint Portal site (more than one are hosted on this server).     - search and anonymous access Hi, I am using SPS 2003 with anonymous access. I have an image library and all the images show fine to an anonymous user but when a search is made SP asked for authentication before it will show the thumbnails in the search result. The page itself loads fine but a broken image link icon displays if a password and username isn't given. Its driving me mad so any comments or suggestions are welcome. thanks in advance.     - Search. Same page twice. Blank spaces. Hello, We are using SPS Search Services. We have a site with two Content Sources indexing an external site. Both content source indexes are working correctly. There is a page with spaces in the URL, ex. http://server/path with spaces/page.aspx Because of the external site distribution, the content sources have indexed the same page but one of them have stored the result as: http://server/path%20with%20spaces/page.aspx and the other one as: http://server/path+with+spaces/page.aspx So in the search results this page appears twice.     - Problems with Search Hi, We have a small Sharepoint Portal 2003 implementation with only one server as front end and DB server. We have a few WSS sites with documents in them. The search works on all sites except on one (the search from the portal site). I can not figure out what the problem is. I have removed the site from the Site Directory and added it back on.     - "Alert Me" error We seem to be having an issue with users trying to setup alerts on some pages but they are getting the error listed below. "Error: An error has occured on the server". For some users it happens on ever page they try to set an alert on but then there are other users that can set some alerts on certain pages but not on others.     - Document Properties and columns "In word 2003 for example, if I select "file" - "properties" - "summary" tab, I see properties such as "Title", "Subject", "Author" etc. But only the "Title" value is also evident in the "Contents" tab. What I have noticed is that when I upload a doc into sharepoint after adding my own columns such as "Subject" and "Author" is that the "Subject" and "Author" columns do not get updated automatically with the property values but the "Title" column always automatically gets updated. As far as I can see this is because the "title" value is also populated in the "Contents" tab area. So how does the "title" value get in the "Contents" tab area. The ulimate goal of what I am trying to achieve is that I have a template with certain properties, the user enters the value of the property, presses F9, and saves the document. In sharepoint I have created additional columns for these properties BUT the columns do not get automatically updated with the property values. I haven't tried many times, with many different scenarios, but still get stuck at this phase with the message "The page cannot be found" for SarePoint Central Administration. I really need your help. Here is my environment description: 1- Windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition in a domain environemt, no Service Pack upgraded, no domain controller defined. I have created an user account 'SPSPowerUser' member of Power Users group ( as suggested in 'Installing SharePoint Portal Server without the Database Engine') 2- Following Operating System Components has been added to Window Server 2003: Application Server with Microsoft ASP.NET , and enable network COM+ access IIS with Common Files , IIS Manager, World Wide Web Service Front PAge 2002 Server Extensions is not selected (as suggested by the SPS installation document) 3- Install SQl Server 2002, Enterprise Edition with SP3A. I have created a Login user 'SPSPowerUser' with roles Database Creators, Security Administrators, and System Administrators. 4- Install .NET 2003 . Here I 'getting all confused with the Front PAge Extension controversy. The .NEt 2003 installation set up phase requirement : "If you want to create Web projects on this machine, you must first install additional components. To create Web projects, both Internet Information Services (IIS) and FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) must be installed and configured. You can, however, create Web projects on remote machines that have these components installed and configured." What should I do. If you already went through this phase, how did you resolve this issue: - It looks like the .NEt 2003 installation requirement is conflicting with SHarePoint Portal Server regarding Front Pager Server extension. And >NET is one of the SPS prerequisite. - Also should I upgrade Windows Server 2003 to SP! before SPS installation ? In the discussions group SPS issues, some users seem to relate SPS installation problem to SP1 of WIndows Server 2003.     - Annoying Question At the HOME location of my portal site, on the left, upper side, right above the action items list, it is showing the items portal and areas list for one of my 5 portals. I thoguht it should be showing me the "current location" as it does, once I go into one of my other portals. I have looked all over to see if I could find some sort of configuration to change what is shown there, but can't find where I can modify it.     - Uploading/Adding documents to library issue Hi all, I'm hoping someone maybe able to shed some light on this problem for me. I have an issue where by when a user adds a document to a doc library in sps 2003 his/her username/profile is not recorded under the "created by" or "modified by" columns. Backup is taken every day and we try to restore the same every day as part of our testing. We restored the first few backups successfully but since few days we are getting the following ERROR: "The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this sharepoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again." We observed the following differences: Schema Version on Production Server(PS) SPS01_Config_db (Table: GLOBALS): 6.0.2.6411 stsadm.exe : 11.0.6409.0 stswel.dll : 11.0.6411.0 onetutil.dll : 11.0.6411.0 ----------- Schema Version on Test Server(TS) SPS01_Config_db (Table: GLOBALS): 6.0.2.5530 stsadm.exe : 11.0.5510.0 stswel.dll : 11.0.5530.0 onetutil.dll : 11.0.5530.0 Versions for: onetutil.dll,stswel.dll, and stsadm.exe is not the same with-in Production Server or Test Server. Is it a must, that all three (onetutil.dll,stswel.dll, and stsadm.exe ) must have the same version on PS or TS. ---- How to restore the backup?     - Mysterious links in the Select a View list in left nav bar Here is what I am doing: - Created two lists called ListA and ListB - They both have the All Items view - Now I edited the DispForm.aspx for ListA to include dataviews for ListA and ListB (I am setting up a parent-child relationship) - When I go the ListA list's main page, there is an additional view in the left nav bar in addition to the All Items view. The new view is called ListA and is actually a link to the DispForm.aspx file of ListA - In addition when I go to the ListB's main page, there is an additional view in the left nav bar called ListB and it is also a link to the ListA's DispForm.aspx file It doesn't matter what I do with the dataviews and how I configure them. As soon as a dataview of a list in added on any page, a link to that page appears in the "Select a View" list which is rendered by the viewselector control. It would seem like the viewselector is dynamically going through all the pages and building the list based on whether the page contains a dataview for that list. How can I prevent that behavior. It would be OK except for the fact that when someone visits this DispForm.aspx from the Select a View list, no data is displayed in the view because there is no list item selected for which to display the listform.     - Create shortcuts to filesystem Files Is there an easy way to create shortcuts or hyperlinks to filesystem files? I found that I can add them to the links web part by typing in the path and file name but would be too time consuming for the end-users. What I would be looking for would be a Web Part that would allow you to browse the file system to add a link to the selected file/Files. Is there such a thing? The goal would be for the project managers to be able to make important files available through the site but not stored inside the site. The reason I don't want the files stored inside in the site, is because at the end of the project I need to archive all of the project related files to a DVD. If they are stored inside the site I would have to move them to the filesystem before I archive the project. I have about 200 projects to archive every 2-3 months so that wouldn't work very well for our use. I am open to alternate ideas on how to handle this problem. The document library is located under a web that inherits permissions from the root web. I authorized the A.D. Group SPS_Users to be a Reader of the root web (and sub webs). Hi guys!
I have recently put up sharepoint portal 2003 server on active directory on
the same machine for some users to be able to access the portal from
internet. I have got Cisco PIX in between. Users can access the website but
they don't get any prompt to change the pasword, even if they are required to
change the password on first use in active directory. Any suggestions how to
let users change their password from the internet.
