In a medium farm config. wth one cluster IP..
what is the best practice from hosting 1 parent portal
site, 2 child divisional portal sites, 2 WSS team sites
collections? WSS sites need SSL.
Should I use host headers? I know SSL does not work with
host headers.

Or use different ports for each web site, if so, can DNS
resolve to a FQDN for sites created on different ports?

I would use host headers. I have it setup this way as well. I have several
different sites running all using port 80 and use host headers to get to the
different locations. If you need to use SSL for all the sites I am not sure
about that right now.

when I create portals, Should I use 'All unassigned'
or 'cluster ip' during new site creaion in IIS?
should I use host headers for all portals including the
first portal.
