We've been receiving alert emails relating to information that is
posted on the portal server that dates back to several months. We've
gotten alerts that went as far back as March 2005.
Users have been complaining of receiving 20+ alerts of postings that
are outdated. The alerts state that the listing has either been added
or modified, which is not true.

I've reset Sharepoint Portal Alert Service on many occasions, but these
problems still persist. Any idea what may be causing this influx of
these outdated alerts?

TIA!!

I would check out search. If search isn't running daily (or whatever
schedule you have) to completition it could be that it hasn't encountered
that item since march of 2005. That is why you are just now seeing the
alert. Odd alert behavior is often driven by search not functioning
correctly.

Are all the documents you get old alerts on PDF documents? They are at my
place and its driving my users mad.

Ive "heard" its a known bug with MS/Adobe, but Ive not seen any official
information on it.

Now that I think about it, yes all the documents that I get old alerts
on are PDF documents.

I would love to see some sort of documentation on this. It's really
driving all of our users crazy.

Thanks for the info!

You have no idea how glad I am even to find someone with the same problem as
me :D

Indexing the PDFs works fine, as does the rest of the search service. The
only things I am able to find on this matter is how to get the adobe icons to
show and about the ifilter, both of which Im guessing you have ruled out also.

Like I said, I was told by some consultants we used a while back that it was
a know issue, and there was no workaround. But I have not seen a single KB
article or other source mentioning the issue.

Ill keep subscribing to this thread, and keep looking for a solution.
