    - Moving a SPS2003 I'm trying to move a portal from a serverA to serverB. For this task i've tried a number of different ways. The problem is that the sites still have the address http://serverA... instead of http://serverB... I have tried the obvious, using the backup and restore tool indicating the new server to which the portal is restored, to the desperate, modifying the content database (the sites table) to point to serverB, but no matter what i tried, the message is still the same when i access http://serverB/ , "Under Construction".     - Pass authentiction to external site From the home page of my Portal site, I would like to display the contents of an external web site using a Page Viewer Web Part. This site is on a different server, but both servers are on the same domain. The external site uses Integrated Windows Authentication, and my Portal server uses the same. Is there any way to pass the user's logon information from the portal server to this external site?     - Upload new document but content is old when viewing Does anyone know if there is a way to correct the following? A user checks a document out of a document library. They make changes, upload the new version and check it back in. If they click on the document to view their changes, they see the old version. Once they exit the portal and come back in, if they click on the document they see the changes. Is there a setting for caching that can be changed so the user will see the new version immediately?     - Q: SPS navigation panel management What way can the navigation panel (the one on the left side of the page) be reorganised? Strangely, the navigation panel on the home page contains links to one area in particular and I find no way to modify it. I have no idea why this very area is given preference over the others.     - Restrict domain administrators access Hi, I would like to know if it is at all possible to restrict the access rights of the Active Directory groups "Domain Administrator" in Sharepoint Document libraries. The reason is that we want the Human Resources document library to be only accessible to those members of the HR group. However, it seems that people from our technical department (who are part of the Domain Admins group) are able to overcome this barrier and access every document anyways. I see that I can go into "Manage site group permissions" and deselect the "Use personal features" but then you lose personal alerts...grrrr what are they thinking...     - Topic Area Hi I was wondering if there was a 'better' way to diplay the topics in the topic area. The defualt webpart for the Topic Area is the 'Browse topics by' webpart. Howqever this doesn't have much in the way of customisation. The reason I am asking if there is a better way, is that we have 42 main topics under the topic area some of which have 2 or threee sub topics. This has lead to a very cluttered page.     - Data View based on Document Library Hi all, I'm using SPS 2003. I have a document library set up in our portal. The documents are categorized using two custom column (they are both of type choice), i.e. a 2 dimensional grouping of the documents. I would like to provide an overview of the documents contained in the document library as a table. This overview should have one of the categories as columns and the other as rows. The table cells should provide a link to the documents in the document library. I have tried setting up a Data View, but it seems like the view is rather list like.     - Urgent Help - Layout design customisation Does anybody know whether it's possible to customise the layout design of the server side Sharepoint pages? We've been able to change colour schemes by changing the style sheets and 'Theme', and can re-design layouts for local pages, but the server side pages are more difficult. We're trying to alter pages such as _layouts/1033/viewlsts.aspx and _layouts/1033/create.aspx. One way may be to save customised versions of these pages to the local website, but all the menu links to the server pages are contained in Webbots and Web parts - is it possible to change these links to call the customised pages instead?     - smigrate troubles Hi folks I am trying to experiment with smigrate to backup sites from one portal and to restore them in another.     - Which ports a SPS web front-end located on DMZ needs open? We are planning an extranet (small farm deployment) and about to place only the web front-end (WFE) to the DMZ. It is a part of an extranet-AD, with a domain controller (DC) inside the LAN. The SQL server (SQL) is also inside the LAN. Couple of questions: 1. Which ports does WFE need open to DC in order to be able to process authentication -related communication? - reskit (i think) lists tcp and udp for all these: 53,88,389,445 - is this accurate ? all needed? 2.     - Office 2000 and WSS Hello, A customer of mine has office 2000 installed on their computers, and cant use all functions. BUT, one of the guys mentioned that when he had Visio 2003 installed on his computer he could do more stuff with WSS. So my question is, what components etc did he get with visio that made him able to use WSS? And is it possible to somehow isolate this and perhaps distribute em to our computers. The company in question has around 40k computers :) And they have just decided not to upgrade office atm.     - Spin doesn't support subsites I'm trying to import data from SPS2001 to SPS2003. I need to have different permissions to folders so they need to be made as sites and subsites. This was recommended way in MS's SPSAdvancedMigrationScenarios.doc.     - Making Bin to work as GAC - votes against anyone? All MSFT white papers push web administrator to put web part assemblies into the GAC. Consider scenario of locked down Intranet Sharepoint Portal with high-availability requirement. To update one web part located in the GAC the admin need to restart web service - bad comparing with BIN folder where the new version just need to override old one to be picked up by next request. It would be great for us to use only BIN deployment. I've found a solution to raise permission of the BIN folder to the level of GAC.     - PDF field/column searching Hi, I've successfully installed iFilter etc, so my PDFs in Sharpoint 2003 Portal can be searched using the basic search. However, I cannot search using the columns in the advanced search. (e.g., the doc lib has been set up to have various fields like Order Number, or Customer Name etc) I've added these fields to the advanced search, as described by Gary Bushey (re-printed at the end of this post) They appear fine, so I CAN do a search which says "Order Number - Contains - 00001001", but it doesn't return anything.     - Deleted the Browse Sites by - Spotlight Sites - Newest Sites Web Part While using Front Page 2003 to edit the Sites Page (on my test server) I deleted what I thought was only a simple text box that I did not want (a 2nd duplicate box was below) and when I did so it actually deleted this whole web part AND the box below though FP did not show that till after I had saved the page (? not sure if it is really a web part or not, it is not on default list of web parts). Thus, when you go to the Sites page now there is now no organized categories (areas) like it was OOB - nothing there at all concerning sites and what categories they are organized into and I cannot figure out how to put it back - FP would see it and display the "Browse Sites By" "Spotlight Sites" "Newest Sites" "Sites I have Added" inside FP itself while in editing mode when I tried to recover but when I published the page back to the site it skipped over putting this default feature back and left the page just blank below the "Search This Site" box. Does anyone know how to put this default feature back? It only exists on the sites page and no where else. Could not even copy from the summary.aspx other dev server site page over this one it would just fail (both using FP, or manually copying the page). It would come back that the data no longer existed and throw errors on the page (or in some cases would not even let any page come up at all). You cannot just embed the code for the web part in the summary page - I tried it - it just does not work since the web part config knowledge is stored in SQL and the summary.aspx is just calls the sql which in turn populates the page with the web parts it knows that should be on there. As a temp fix I made a site listing web part and put it on the page so people could see the list of sites but I really want to get back the default OOB view of the page and I am stumped on how to do that.     - SPS V1 behaving strangely We are running SPS 1 with SPacks etc and have suddenly found that images uploaded to the SPS Server are not viewale via the browser or Network Neighbourhood. In fact the directory the images were stored to appears to be missing from the folder listing. When we try to put a batch of missing images into a folder which was previously loaded but is not visable, we cannot.     - Alternate portal access settings I don't know if this is a limitation or a feature in SPS ... I've got the default URL set to the short name of our portal server, e.g. http://intranet. I've got the extranet URL set to the FQDN, e.g. http://intranet.fred.com If I perform a search, the search result URLs behave as the Alternate portal access settings describe, i.e. if the page's URL matches the extranet URL, the search results will also use the extranet URL, otherwise the default URL is used. However, I'm encountering problems with things like URLs for profile photos, links in a links list, etc. These items INSIST on having "proper URLs", i.e. they must start with http:. This causes me some problems because the alternate portal access settings don't appear to be applied to these URLs. For example, if I set my photo URL to be http://intranet/Staff/philip.jpg and then browse to http://intranet.fred.com/ and look at my site, the photo doesn't work because the URL isn't valid outside of the company. Now, I can clearly work around that problem by making all such URLs fully-qualified but then you have to add the FQDN as a trusted site otherwise you get prompted for authentication (because by default it falls into the Internet zone & IE doesn't do NTLM to Internet sites). Have I summarised the expected behaviour of SPS correctly? Am I doing something wrong or is this simply a case of what I want it to do, it won't do?     - Signing a simple HelloWorld webpart Hi, I'm trying to learn building webparts. No I've created this very simple HelloWorld webpart, which works up untill I sign the dll with a strong name key.     - SPS search and mixed encoded content Hi all, this post has been discussed in part in cmserver discussion group. There however we didn't find answer to SPS search related question. Hope you guys can help. So in our MCMS 2002sp1 site - that we're going to index and search with Sharepoint search - we're seeing content being encoded in varying ways. This is with certain special characters. Take ä (latin small letter a with diaresis) as an example. In our content source we can see it being represented as ä or character entity reference ä and all this in addition to UTF-8 (literal Ã¤ hex C3A4) (the most common encoding, but others exist). Both html and utf-8 encoding representations will yield correct content for end users subscribers browsing the site, that is ä (latin small letter a with diaresis).     - Adding Web Parts to List Templates? Hi I've built a custom header including navigation as a web part which i want to add to all pages within my sharepoint site. I have managed this with the default.aspx by adding an <AllUSersWebPArt> to the default.aspx module within the onet.xml file. But now i need to add it to all the lists pages. I know I can change lists using FP2003 once they are created to add a web part zone and my navigation part, however as you can imagine I'd like to be able to modify the list templates to include the new zone and part when the list is first created.
