RunTime Error Web.config CustomErrors="Off" Can't see actual error 2
Following the addition of an SSRS server to the farm I now get an
error calling the only site on the new farm. That site was working
fine before changes.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current
custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the
application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons).
It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server
machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be
viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within
a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the
current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its
"mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>

<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
I have 2 WFEs (not including the SSRS server which is technically not
a WFE). In an effort to see what this is all about I made a the above
customerrors mode=off changew to the two WFE web.configs.. but the
message continues. I did an IISREset after making on both wfe after
the change.
The two front ends are MS load balanced. The name I use to use and the
url of the site is the Virtual Name mapped to the Virtual IP (not that
I think this matters or is the problem).
I'm running the site from the MOSS server, I've tried from other
stations in my intranet including the WFE and continue to get the same
message.
What can I do see detailed error information?

Insert picture in content on 2007 gives me an error
Hello
I have a developement server running Sharepoint 2007. So far, besides
the usual Sharepoint fustrations, most troubles had a cause. However,
I've run into a problem I can not solve.
I've created a sitecollection, a colloboration site. I run a danish
version, so whenever I want to search google for hints etc, I have to
try to figure out the exact english equivalent to the danish names
etc. What a pain. It would be nice to know the enlish names.
Now to the problem..
When I create a page, ie. under the News section, I use an article
pagelayout. However, suddenly I can not insert images into the page.
When I try to attach a thumbnail image or ordinary image in the
fields
assigned to this by default, Sharepoint says "Unknown error", and am
error page is shown. I can not in other words, insert an image when I
want to select the image from the Select image window.
I can set the settings, but when I click Browse (for the image) the
error page shows up.
I cant see that I've done any changes the last two days to the
server,
templates or the like, that would possible influence and cause this
problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions to where I could troubleshoot ?
Cheers

All of a sudden, Sharepoint won't launch client application & wors
When I do a check out and edit of a Word doc (most of them saved in 97-2003
compatibility mode), the client application is not being launched. If I do a
two-step process (first a checkout, then select edit, I get a message saying
that it's going to open, but it doesn't.
If I double-click on the document icon, I get the dialog asking if I want to
checkout and edit or just open it read-only. If I select "checkout and edit"
then instead of opening the document I get a "Save As" dialog, which gives me
the option of saving it as either a docm or docx file to my Sharepoint drafts
folder. That's it. Doesn't bring up the document.
If a first launch the Word application, before attempting to access the
document via Sharepoint, then I can open the document from Sharepoint.
BTW: I have configured this library to open documents in the client
application, and that configuration hasn't changed. MS Word 2007 is
configured to save files in doc format. Also hasn't changed.
This was all working fine a couple of days ago--I could checkin/checkout
normally, Sharepoint launched the client application, etc. etc.. However,
there a lot of security updates done to my workstation in the last couple of

this? I just want it back the way it was two days ago! Tag: how to get list of sub sites in SharePoint Portal Server Admin Tag: 100771

MS Access on Sharepoint - random I/O errors
A biz friend has coded up his timesheet application in MS Access 2007,
with the actual tables/files located on his remote hosted dedicated server

Everything has been running fine for months - until this week -
Now, the application gets random errors on the tables,
indicating an I/O error ?? different tables, etc
He can go onto Sharepoint and open the table & all is fine.
But - back in Access - the table icon indicates the "link" is bad,
and the only way he has found to "fix it" is to delete the link &
re-establish it.
Any ideas for him to chase down..... or how to handle these "error
conditions"
so that the link is not permanently broken ??

Summary pages in SPP2007

How can I create those "summary pages" that show what other content is in

If i build my intranet from bottom to top, using libraries etc..those
summary pages are created automatically. But if I create a new heading, what
should I set to link from this heading hyperlink? There is no page relevant

Right now, the FARM is down and WFE1 is behaving odd and I need to
troubleshoot what might be going on - but first I'd like to ask about
best practices.
When the Farm was up ..
1. we created a number of new web applications, some worked, some did
not. Dumb question, should a new application be created as http://moss
or http://wfe1 given server names?.. we noticed when we create http://wfe1
you could still get to the site via http://moss, but the minute you
click on a link you are directed to http://wfe1/somthing and prompted
for authentication again..
2. We noticed there are third party sharepoint features that use to
deploy just fine in our simple one server topology, when we attempt to
deploy these through the WFE1, they don't deploy.
Now, trying to understand why we are down.
1. we use to be able to run the Central admin from MOSS, WFE1 and
WFE2 .. when we attempt to run it from WFE1 now we get a dialog box to
please wait while SPS 3.0 is configured, and then another that the
feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk.
From the MOSS server, I can see that WFE as configured. How can I
troubleshoot this.
2. We have a number of Applications on different ports we had created
just for testing, I am unable to get to any of them. When I attempt I
get:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Which sever and log do I go to troubleshoot this?

cannot find .xsl files
Hello,
I have googled a lot to find out the answer to another question, and
part of that answer is that I have to edit an .xsl file. But when I
open the site in SharePoint Designer 2007, I cannot find any .xsl
file.
What am I doing wrong here?

sharepoint 2k7 on 2008 server , 2008 locking up...
I'm having an issue which may or may not be related to running on 2008
server/and / or as a virtual server..
We have sharepoint 2007, successfully running on 2008 server under virtual
server 2005...
Every once in awhile, the 2008 virtual server crashes... if i go into
virtual server to view its screen.. it still shows a log in screen, but its
"locked up".. no blue screen.. my only choice is to "reset" the 2008 server
and its back up and running..
I check event logs but cant find any useful info..
Has anyone run into this either on a Sharepoint 2007 server with 2008
(physical) or virtual environment?
I havent activated the 2008 server yet, not sure if this has anything to do
with it.. I also wasnt sure which activation method was the best choice here
either.. i hate to have to dedicate one machine as an activation server, was
thinking of doing the old style activation via the command line.

Convert License Type
I am running version 12.0.4518.1016 of sharepoint. This was handed over to
me and from what I have read it appears this version is the trial version. I
have gone to Central Administration\Operations\Convert License type and added
my License. However, I get a failure when trying to convert License type.
Is this a known issue? How can I resolve this before my trial period ends? Tag: how to get list of sub sites in SharePoint Portal Server Admin Tag: 100690
Error in crawling a site.
I am running MOSS 2007 version 12.0.0.6318.
I am getting:
Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the
expected range.) when I try to crawl 2 sites out of 10.
The first one looks like this if Select * from versions is run:
12.0.0.4518
12.0.0.6219
12.0.0.6300
12.0.0.6318 (I copied the DB and attached it to test witch was
upgraded to 6318)
3.1.5.0
The Second one:
6.0.2.6568
12.0.0.6219
12.0.0.6300
3.1.4.0
All articles say that this should have been fixed in version
12.0.0.6300 but still errors.

Document Check-out stuck
Anyone experience a problem checking in documents in a document
library? SharePoint seems to go through all the motions but simple
does not refresh to show the document's checked in status. Discarding
check out is the only thing that seems to work.
Note: The one thing different on this document library is that it has
a workflow attached. Other libraries on this site check-in and out
fine.
Thanks

Hiding site user profile data from other site users
We are rolling out a community portal using MOSS 2007. Users will
logon with AD accounts which have been added to site groups in
advance. We do not want community users to see personal information
about other users, eg. email address, phone number, logon etc.
However, whenever such a user sees another name listed in a document
library or list they can click on it and it show them the details of
the user. Indeed they can access the following URL to see the details
of all users in their group:
http://portal/_layouts/people.aspx
I assume that when the user is added from the AD domain it imports
directly into the WSS site user directory??
I've played around with the Profile properties on the SSP but it seems
that certain properties are mandatory for import. Even setting the
options to not display certain properties does not affect the display
of data stored in the WSS site User database.
Any ideas?
Kind Regards,
Jonathan Caddy

Cross-site document copying (preserving meta data)
Hi,
Would someone know of a tool that can copy files between 2 sites on 2
different instances of Sharepoint, keeping meta data?
We have an external facing instance of Sharepoint 2003, and an internal
facing MOSS 2007 instance. We want to be able to share a given document
library with the external people.
We tried with Robocopy but we loose all the metadata and properties.
Does such product exists? Of course, we need to have this thing automated
to run every so often during the day, so a manual process is out of the
question :D

local account and email alerts
I have a Sharepoint website. We would like to use local user accounts for
access and they are working fine. Is there any way to allow those users to
receive email alerts as well?
It seems only active directory accounts have the email addresses to allow
this feature. Please clarify.

Serives on Server disappeared.
Hi,
we have Sharepoint Server for Developers and each developer has his/her own
Dev Server in VMware environment on their local workstations. 3 weeks ago the
services on Server disappeared from the SharePoint Developer Server. I've
searced a lot of sites the only thing I can found is the sharepoint Portatl
Server can lock the Farm Topology for several reasons: Backup which we not
using so far; site Maintaince which also we not running.
I resolved the issue by using the SharePoint Products and Technologies
Configuration Wizard to disconnect from the Database. Then use the wizard
back again and connect to the existing Database and used different port
number. After the wizard finished, I can see the services and I started them
with no problems. I've also used stsadmin to change the port number to our
default number. All is working good, until now the issue came back again. I
know if I do the same thing as I did last time it will work, but I would
like to know the reason behind this and why this are happening.
BYW I've ran Microsoft Best Practice Analyzer for Windows SharePoint, I
didn't have any errors only minor warning.
Please help

Explorer view VERY VERY slow on one x64 Vista box...
We run Sharepoint enterprise 2007 on a 2008 box...
In one and so far, only one, instance of x64 Vista.. it seems that explorer
view mode is horrendisly slow..
IE: you open up the folder structure and double click a folder, it will
often take 10 seconds for the next level to refresh and show..
Opening files like xls or xlsx takes a long time as well.
This is also the same if you just do a start.. run..
\\sharepointserver\path\doclibrary
I tried the same test on another x64 Vista box and it was flying.
Any thoughts as to what could be causing this slowdown?
