document workspace viewing
In my home site, I have created addition document workspaces. I can
view these from my home site by go to documents, document workspaces.
I would like to get the view of all the document workspaces on the same
page as the home site. Does any one know how to do this? Example, if
I see 8 different document workspaces when in the document workspaces
view, I would like to see the same 8 on my home site, with all the

I want to create a view of all the document workspaces you see when
going to home, Documents, Document Workspaces, in the home site. So
the users do not have navigate, they would see all the document

Link to other sites
I have created a bunch of sites. I want the sites to link to other sites.
I have created a custom list in one of the sites and I know you can choose a
URL column and paste a link to the other site. I would like something easier
for the users creating sites. I tried using the lookup but it only looksup
(links) to information in the current site. Is there a way to make it so I
have a drop down list or something that lists all the sites and when users
add a new item (link) to the site it will link to another site.

Doc Library Last Modified vs. Webdav (folder) Last Modified
Hi all,
I've run into an interesting situation where the "Last Modified" dates
don't match up between the webdav and doc library. Here's the scenario:
I have a document library that I want certain users to be able to sync
to a portable drive. When I modify the document in the library, the
library reflects the proper last modified date. When I access the
library using webdav (i.e. using XP and Explorer -
\\portal\sites\syncsite\shared documents) the date does not reflect the
latest modified date.
This poses issues with the sync software as it compares the date of the
file that last time that it was sync'd. Even though the file has
changed the Last Modified date has not been updated.
The goal is to have a doc library that can be maintained and when
documents are added or updated, they can re-sync to pull down the
latest info without having to physically copy the files using the
explorer view in the doc library and paste them onto the removable
drive.
Has anyone else run into this before?

I am new to sharepoint and I am editing the default sites page. On the right
is 2 web parts
1)newest sites
2)sites I have approved
How do I remove these from the page. Sites seems to be a lttle differnet
from the other pages, because the other pages have an edit page where you can
modify the page.

Linking from Document Libraries
Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to link from a Document Library. I have
different sites that sometime contatin the same document. So I am looking for
a way to stop duplicativly posting the same document. Is there a way to do
this within SharePoint?
Or is there a web part that someone knows about that does this?

Login Windows appears on accessing SPS2003
Hi All,
I have installed SPS2003 under a domain and if a user tries to get to SPS,
login window appears although the user is in the same domain. As per my
understanding, SPS should not ask for credentials because the server and the
user are in same domain. After providing the credentials, user is able to
get in.
I have already checked and integrated security is selected in IIS and the
user has access to portal. Please let me now, if I am missing anything

Problems with WSS Full-Text search
This was working earlier, but not sure what caused it to stop working.
Documents within a WSS Team Site are not searchable within that Team
Site. If I go to the portal and search from there, it finds the
documents. My guess it the problem is related to WSS Full-text search.
I went to the screen and the option was checked. I clicked OK and it
refreshed config cache on the other servers. I went to my other web
front end to replicate the changes, however, it hangs on the "Please
wait while your changes are processed" screen. I went back and
unchecked the box hoping that it would change things... Now I can't get
the Full-text search otion turned back on because it keeps hanging on
that screen....

Hello, in a document library in a Team Site where document versioning in on,
users can enter Version Comments whenever they create a new version of a
document. I would like to display these version comments in a List in a
separate column. How can I do that?
And if I submit this document to a portal area, how can I display these
comments also as a separate line in the portal area display?

Transfer portal site
Hi All,
I have a sharepoint portal server in a win2k3 box and my databases are in
different SQL server. We upgrade the box with better processor an memory and
I need to transfer the sharepoint portal.
The new box have the same server name, so when I install the sharepoint I
just point to the database and everything come up but not the portal site. I
try to delete the portal site and I have an error, I tried also to restore
the portal site and error saying that the site already exist. I try to copy
the folder that I have the portal site but no luck.
How can I fix this problem?

Problem adding members to a site using address book
When trying to added members to a Sharepoint site using the address
book option on one pc this works and on another it does not show the
address book.
Both pc's have outlook 2003 SP1 and the same network access rights.
Does anybody know what outlook or sharepoint settings that are

Upgrade from WSS to SPS
Hi! I've tried to upgrade from WSS to SPS from severals ways and I can´t get
it working.
I've many sites on my WSS Content Databases that I want to keep, I don't
want to upgrade those sites right now, I just want to install SPS on the WSS
server (Single Server) and mantain my WSS Sites besides the SPS Portal Sites
connectiong the WSS Site to the SPS site.
I've followed this step by step guide:

straightforward to me but I received an error at step:
"Add a new content database, and use the name of the SQL Server content
database and the name of the server that stores the content databases that
you determined earlier in the "Determine the Database Settings that Are Used
By the Virtual Server in Windows SharePoint Services" section of this
article."
When I tryied to add the original Content Database as a content database for
the SPS Virtaul Server I receive an error telling that the "Database Schema
is Old".
WSS is on a single machine and the upgrade I want to do can´t be simpler,
but I seems that is not as straightforward as I think it should be.
Does anyone know a guid to acompplish this task? Any help will be
appeciated, I'm getting frustrated with this!!

Document webpart (standard) -> sort direction by Type not possible
Hi there,
So I think it is a simple question but this confused me.
I put the standard Document Webpart to a website. Now I want to sort the
content by type (Folder should be on top. Files on buttom -> linke Windows
Explorer). I do not want to have Documents on top.
I go on Modify settings and columns. Define my own view. Sort direction Sort
(Icon linked to document). The webpart do not show me this in the right sort
direction. Even if ascending or descending. Documents every time on top.
2nd I tried this. Modify settings and columns. Document Template: -> Edit
template. In word documents on left bar. Sort by type. I saved this back to
server. No result.
I'am really confused of that thing. How can I change the sort direction of
my webpart that folders are on top and files on bottom??????

getting updates failed
Hi,
I have SPS 2003 SP1 and Ofiice 2003 instalation. My SPS 2003 is configured
to give access by internet by https. My problem is:
I try open a office document aceesing by my intranet
(http://servername/...)and i can get updates from shred workspaces, but when
i open the document by internet (https://intranet.domain.com/...) in the
shared workspace in office 2003 i can't get updates, the message of error is
"Getting Updates failed".
Anyone can help me?

Usage reports beyond 1 month
Hi!
We're running SPS 2003 and have usage analysis turned on and working.
However I can seemingly only get reports on the last month. Log files
have been created for beyond that and have been analysed as I used to
be able to see them when they were in the 1 month window.
Is there a way of seeing reports for more than just the last month?

Medium web farm with clustering
We have a medium web farm setup, with the following specs:
- 1 load balancer server
- 2 SPS 2003 servers (clustered) with search enabled
- 1 index/job server
- 1 sql server
This configuration was already set up when I came and there is nothing to
find about the choices for this setup. My question is about the clustering on
the 2 SPS servers: is this the right way to do it? In my understanding a
cluster on multiple SQL servers is the normal way to do it. On the SPS
servers we are only able to create 1 portal right now, which I see as a sign
that something is not right with the clustering on the SPS servers...

Cannot search the main Portal... please help . :)
I have setup search and indexing, and if I am at the main portal level
search box and type in a search query, it only returns documents that are
found within sites, under the Portal.
I have news, announcements and document libraries that are stored at the
main portal level, how do I configure sharepoint portal to return these items
at the main portal in the search results screen??

Question about Single Sign On Servc.
Hello people.
Me again ;-)...
Well, I'm still blocked about my last issue. All those folders in the
Documents & Settings folder makes me sick!!!! My disks in developer, quality
and production atmospheres are almost full because there are many folders
(9.000).
If i tell you that I'm thinking that Single Sign On service is using some
physical space on the File System, what would you think?...
We have many applications on using SSO: Lotus Notes and ASP/ASP.NET Apps.

I created a list in either Home or any of its child areas by clicking
'Manage Content', then click 'Create' and choose to create a list (or a
document library). Then I can add items to the list. Now how can I edit
this newly created list such as giving it a better description, or delete

calendars
Can we conbine personal calendars to calendars in sharepoint ? I know those
are team calendars...but I would prefer seeing those entris in the personal

AD Group on Subsite
I am using WSS.
I am unable to grant the same permission for an AD group to my subsite.
I tested on "Lists" on the main site. The permission works fine by adding
[domain]\[group].
When I granted permission to a group (group 1) for an entire subsite, it
doesn't work meaning a person who belongs to group 1 is prompted for log in.
I am not sure why it works for lists on the main site, not on subsites.
My main site does allow Anonymous
The Anonymous Access Setting for the Main site is
- Anonymous Access = Entire Web site
- All Authenticated Users = Yes
The Anonymous Access Setting for the Subsite is
- Anonymous Access = Nothing
- All Authenticated Users = No
The subsite is not inheriting from the main site.

Document Management system
I have been currently evaluating sharepoint on the "Client side" not from an
administrative aspect but am wondering if this is really a good tool from a
Network folder and document management system.
I am working for a client that needs a tool that will offer them some
functionality as described below:
Assign users to be responsible for certain directories, allow them to know
if a direcotory has been removed/or renamed on the Local Area network.
Identify how many levels deep a directory resides, for example, a folder
Named "Results" will be three levels deep such as C:\Research\Tests\Results.
Provide comments related to a directory(s) Allow them to update retention
information for a particular folder, assign a date to a folder as to when it
should be considered expired material.
I currently do not see some of these things in sharepoint and wonder If I
should be evaluating another type of software package.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

get rid of the "add related issue" field in Issue List form
I have customized the Issue list a lot to handle a number of workflow issues
and change control in our area, but I really want to get rid or hide the "add
related issue" field. However, there is no way to do that that is apparent
to me.

Sharepoint Server Design
I have a Sharepoint Portal production server with 6 harddrives.
Can someone let me know whats the best configuration for a sharepoint
installatoin. Here are my two choices.
1. 2 harddrives mirrored to form 3 volumes A, B , C
A: OS and Sharepoint Installation
B: SQL Server Databases
C: SL server Logs
2. 2 harddrived mirrored , the other 4 harddrives configured as RAID5 , A, B

How do I control which webparts a siteuser can actually see.
e.g.
I have a number of team sites SiteA, SiteB ...which are all administratively
and logically supposed to be beneath a team site Site1. I dont want the
webparts created of Site1 to be available to the web admins of SiteA and
SiteB since its redunant , they already have access to Site1. Can I control
the webparts a web admin can add to a site?

Approve / pending documents in DL
Problem: a user who has reader, contributor and member rights can submit
documents to a Document Library. By default, the document is in pending
status. The user can view all aproved documents. However, he can also check
out approved document and modify it, then check in. Then the document becomes
pending status.
How can I block this user to modify approved documents?

Need help with implementing 'group calendar'
Currently, we are implementing a portal site, the customer has a strange
request that they want the idea of 'team calendar'. On each team's portal
site, they want a calendar with the group's event.
The solution we are current provide is to setup an 'delegate' account and
set that person to be the calendar on the portal page. However, from time to
time, we got some security problem with it.
That being said, I have no solution except by implementing a custom webpart,
but apparently this is going to be a hard work. Could anyone please share

Lookup .gif in custom list.
I am creating a site. Within the site I have created a custom list.
In the list I have a field called country. I have a bunch of small .gif
files of different maps. I would like to use the lookup (if possible) to
display the picture in the list. I need something easy because the users

Delivering specific documents to users
Hi there, this is the requirement I have to acomplish :
A user will be uploding documents to a doc library and within the
metadata he will be filling, he(she) has to indicate to whom the
document is intended for (one or more users who should read the
document).
So, I need to impement :
1) Metadata that can be used to indicate une or more users, with the
info taken from site users (this could be achieved using lookup
columns, the problem is that I would have a limited number of columns).
2) A way to add a web part that contains a view of the doc. library
wich has only the documents intended for the person who has started the
session.
Any suggestions ?

Thumbnails of pdf files in picture libraries
We want to store CAD drawings as pdf files in a picture library on our
SharePoint implementation, but unfortunately there are no thumbnails
available for pdf files, which is a major stumbling block for our
users. There are commercial solutions which will allow me to create
thumbnails from pdf files (e.g. by TallComponents) but does anyone know
how I incorporate it in SharePoint so that it recognises pdf files and
creates the thumbnails as it does for other file types like .tiff and
.jpg? I had a look at _layout/1033/imglib.js, which stores the
location of the thumbnails, but I can't see where they are created.
This may be a simple question but I am rather new to SharePoint...

Problem in installation in SPS2003
Hi All,
I am facing the problem when I install SPS 2003 on the Windows 2003 Server,
I need to connect SPS2003 with SQL Server 2000 which is residing on the other
server. The window, which is asking whether to go for MSDE or SQL Server 2000
is totally disable. I thought it is required SP3a for SQL Server, so I
installed it. But nothing is happening.
I have installed WSS before SPS 2003 on the server and which was
automatically installed with MSDE.
Please help.

We've been working on SPS 2001 and would like to start working on SPS

Can anybody suggest us some good online resources where we can get SPS
2003 training and also good books on SPS 2003?

I have created a list template. It is saved in the gallery.
I would like to add the list to a site that I just created as a web part.
How do I go about doing this?
