SharePoint's out-going e-mail with Exchange 2003
I've a problem with Sharepoint Server 2007 in combination with Exchange 2003
while sending outgoing mail. The log shows the following error:
"#160005: Bad response from SMTP host'master.iventsys.com.my': 530 5.7.1
Client was not authenticated ."
I've found on this site the solution for Exchange 2007:
http://blogs.msdn.com/fooshen/archive/2006/10/08/SharePoint_2700_s-out_2D00_going-e_2D00_mail-with-Exchange-2007.aspx
Could anyone tell me how to solve this with Exchange 2003? Tag: Add link to site Tag: 94023

Limit user to delete their own files not others.
Hi All,
How can i allow users to delete their own files not other users files in
Document list. I am using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003.I am administrator.
I tried to do as posted in previous discus.post but i don't see the read
access & Edit access: as mentioned in Change General Settings. I see only
Name and Description, Navigation, Direction, Content Approval,Document
Version,Document Template only these options.
Previous post solution:
modify the item level security under the Modify Settings and
Columns, Change General Settings
Read access: Specify which items users can read
All items
Only their own
Edit access: Specify which items users can edit
All items
Only their own
None
I am sorry to post this again as, I forgot to cross-post to other discussion
groups(cross-post).
Thanks in Advance. Tag: Add link to site Tag: 94013
can't setup MOSS2007 under win2008...
Hi,
I try to setup MOSS2007 under a win 2008 virtual server.
I'm at the step to create the shared services.
the page don't list any application, so I click to create a new one, follows
the step and the application is created.
I go back to the shared services creation page, but the new application is
not listed.
I'm able to do this under win 2003.
there is something special to do under win2008?
or there is a compatibility issue with the beta3?
thanks.

Cannot create sites from portal after applying patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933854
Hello,
We recently applied patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933854 to
our SPS 2003 testing farm. During testing, we discovered that team
sites could not be created from the Portal: http://portalname/_layouts/1033/scsignup.aspx
Repro Steps: 1. Go to http://portalname/SiteDirectory/default.aspx
2. Click on Create Site from the Actions Menu 3. Fill in New Site
info and hit Create 4. You are now at the Add Link to Site window.
>From here if you fill out relevant info and hit OK, it just HANGS
there.
Behavior: You are able to complete the info at http://portalname/_layouts/1033/scsignup.aspx,
and proceed to the "Add Link to Site" window,
http://systemtest/SiteDirectory/Lists/Sites/NewForm.aspx. However,
from this window when you hit OK, it just hangs there with no error
returned or anything. Just hang-age. Additionally, in checking the
IIS log there is no log entry detailing the failed action.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS BEHAVIOR OR READ ANYTHING ON IT?
I checked the Microsoft site on the patch and there still hasn't been
any updates or mention of SPS 2003 issues.
Was wondering if anyone else has seen this yet. Thanks for any insight. Tag: Add link to site Tag: 94004
CQWP
Hi,
I'm trying to build a custom Content Query Web Part, which displays
fields from a Picture Library.
The idea is that users will upload images, add some mandatory
metadata, and we can display the latest addition on the homepage.
I can manage all of this, apart from getting the image to render in
XSLT.
Does anyone know the correct tag for this?

Need to Move SharePoint 2007 from one server to another.
I have been trying to find a way to do this, and have yet to find a
post with the exact same situation that I am in. I have tried numerous
ways of doing this, and failed each time.
I need to move 100% of SharePoint to a new server. The server we are
using now cannot handle all of the requests and is slowing us down. We
have it setup as an all in one server (has the SharePoint installed
SQL Server, and all is on one machine). I am trying to move it so our
new DB server hosts the DB for SharePoint, and one of our other
machines hosts the site itself. We have amassed a large amount of
files and users and we cannot lose anything.
I have tried detaching and attaching databases, backup/restore, and
other various things and none have worked so far. Could anyone please
post step by step instructions on how to do this?
Also, I don't see this being an issue, but SharePoint is being moved
from a 32bit system to our 64bit systems.

sps2003 index issue
I'm recovering a SPS2003 installation from a hardware failure.
I think I've gotten everything working now except search, I keep getting
errors in the event log like
The content source <https://sitename/> cannot be accessed
Details: Error in the Site Data Web Serivce (0x80042616)
I get the feeling that the cause may be related to us changing what database
server the databases were stored on - that's caused me other issues that I've
gotten fixed.
This portal consists of only a single server with all components enabled
(Web, Search, Index) - I was thinking about removing the Search and Index
components, but when I uncheck "index" I get a rather scary warning:
"Warning: clearing the index check box disconnects the index server from the
server farm and deletes all indexes and associated content from the server.
you cannot recover this information. Do you want to continue?"
This warning makes me wonder if it will delete any of the actual *content*
from the portal/sites? I don't get any kind of warning when I uncheck "web"
component (just for curiosity)
Can i uncheck the Search and Index components without fear of losing any
content? (I can always rebuild the indexes)

MOSS authentication methods
Hi,
I setup a MOSS team site with Integrated Authentication, now I want to
invite external members to join in for collaboration. What's the best
approach to create external members accounts. Firstly, I don't want to create
them as AD accounts or local windows accounts; Secondly, I need them to login
when thay access the team site.
I'm thinking of to conbine AD and ASP.Net SQL provider, whereby intranet
users can login using AD account as usual, while external members will be
able to login using the accounts maintenanced in SQL database. Is it
possible? and how to implement that?

Server local administrator vs SharePoint Administrator Group
If I am a local administrator on the SharePoint Server, am I, by default,
able to administer the SharePoint application regardless of the fact that I
am not a member of the SharePoint Administor's Group?
I would like to remove a couple of domain admins (yes, I know they can put
themselves back into the group) from the SharePoint Administrators Group, as
they are making changes to the application that I, as the owner of the
application, do not agree with. This might be moot if the local admin has
permissions regardless.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

stemming in other languages
Hello,
Setup: Moss 2007 + language pack Dutch + language pack French
Question: when I perform search queries in english, the result displays
documents that are found because of the 'stemming' mechanism (run, ran /

However when I try similar queries in Dutch (loop, liep / verhaal, verhalen)
or French, the stemming doesn't work.
Stemming is enabled in the settings of the result-webpart.

Multiple autentication methods
I am using MOSS to build a public facing website that would be a 'forms
authenticated' site if it was in clean ASP.NET. In short the website is
public except for a few pages that are only accessible after logging in.
I thought I would change the authentication mode to forms and hook up a
custom membership provider but then I became confused, because I do not
support the idea of editors, site admins etc in my user database. The user
database I have simply contains a few basic things about each user, but there
is no concept of roles, etc.
So it turns out that I want to keep the security model as is, so that I can
leverage windows authentication for all the Web Content Management features,
but I still want to place a login form on my master page and give the public
users the ability to log in.
Can I still leverage the ASP.NET login control and have it use a different
membership provider than MOSS?
I guess I am just unclear on what the best practice is in building a site
with two different security models, one for WCM functionality and one for
external users.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Multiple Filter values for a document library.
I have created a web part which exposes a list of strings (Cost
Centres) that another webpart can consume for filtering. I have
written another web part for testing and it works fine. The interface
is the ITransformableFilterValues, as detailed on the MSDN examples.
The problem lies with sending these filters to a document library web
part so I can filter down the list of documents using these strings.
There is a column in the document library called Cost Centres and
that's what the filter is setup on, but it will only filter on the
first string in the list I provide. The rest it ignores.
Is there another way for me to do this? Tag: Add link to site Tag: 93945

Empty Page
I am trying to build something that *should* be simple but is truly confusing
me.
Using MOSS 2k7, I want to build a public facing web page that contains
nothing.
I want the browser to open the page without any authentication popups, I
want there to be no residual sharepoint controls on the page and when I do
'view source' I want there to be no tables. (The graphics people I work with
hate those)
I have managed to get close by using the minimal master page from MSDN
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa660698.aspx but I can't seem to be
able to create an empty page layout that works. When I use one of the
existing page layouts (Article Page with Body only) I get some content on the
page - as I'd expect. But when I create a new page layout that is empty, I
get an authentication pop-up when I try to view the page.
I am sure I am doing a few things incorrectly, but I am somewhat frustrated
that it is this hard to create a blank page with a CMS.
Any hints are appreciated.

SPPS 2003 : same notifications again and again...
Hi all
Our customer has the problem that every notification is sent every 10 minute
again and again (SharePoint Portal Server 2003).
We stopped the notifications (by disabling alerts), reset the queue, rebuild
the search index... but notifications are still sent again and again...
Seems that SharePoint forgets which notification are sent.
Microsoft wrote that we shall try this:
1. Reset de Email Job by disabling alerts and then enabling alerts
if this does not help:
2. Export the site and then import the site in another test webapplication -
if the effect has gone: delete the original site and recreate it, import the
original site to the new webapplication
We don't like scenario 2 - to much risk and investment...
Any ideas about the cause of our notification problem and how to solve it?
Thanx!

MOSS 2007: Two explorer view web parts on same page makes both show EMPTY!!?
Try this: insert two document librarry web parts in a web part page,
both set them as explorer view and it results in both web parts
showing empty an emty folder!
Another strange thing is that if one is a picture library and one a
document library, and that showed the docuemnt library contents inside
the picture libarry web part in explorer view!! And one web part
staying as if empty!!
Of cours I tested it with both document libraries containing
docuements.
by the way, I am using Windows 2003 x64, anyone has similar results??
Please check and share what you see
Thanks

Questions regarding Sites pages
Hello folks,
I'm wondering if anybody has the answers to 2 questions I have about the
Sites page in Sharepoint 2007:
I created one Sites page and deleted the standard categories and created 3
new columns (choice field) that then act as 3 new categories.
Q1) When creating a new site I cannot choose a empty/blank value for any of
the categories I created. Sometimes a new site only falls into 1 category so
I want to be able to leave the others empty. Is this possible at all?
Q2) I use the normal Sites page for all sites in our Sharepoint domain. For
blogs (from employees) I'd like to make a seperate Sites page with 1
category holding the name of the employee. When I create a new SiteDirectory
page I already get those 3 columns (categories) I created before. Why is
this? And then when I create a new site from the Blog SiteDirectory I only
see the 3 columns (categories) I created on the first, original
SiteDirectory. Are they somehow connected?
I can't imagine that Sharepoint doesn't offer the oportunity of using a
empty/blank value here...
Thanks for reading sofar, I hope someone has an answer for me.
Kind regards,
Vincent. Tag: Add link to site Tag: 93916

How do you disable the Document Management Server component on Office 2003/2007?
I want users to check-out manually in MOSS 2007, then download the
document copy on their local machines, make changes and manually check-
in/upload the edited document.
I don't want any Office Product 2003/2007 to have any integrated
network connection to MOSS 2007.
Is there a way to disable this Document Management Server Component or
integrated connection to MOSS 2007?
Thanks.

List of recently changed documents?
Hi,
I need a webpart on the front page of a subsite (SharePoint 2003) that
automatically shows a list of documents on this site (also in
subfolders) that have been created or edited recently.
Is this possible or do I have to buy or develop a webpart for it?
Thanks,

Delete, read, write user own documents in Doc. List.
Hi,
How can i allow users to delete their own files not others in Document list.
I am using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003.I am administrator.
I tried to solve as posted in previous discus.post but i don't see the read
access & Edit access: as mentioned in Change General Settings. I see only
Name and Description, Navigation,Direction,Content Approval,Document
Version,Document Template only these options.
From Previous post solution:
modify the item level security under the Modify Settings and
Columns, Change General Settings
Read access: Specify which items users can read
All items
Only their own
Edit access: Specify which items users can edit
All items
Only their own
None
Thanks in Advance. Tag: Add link to site Tag: 93903

Hello,

feature ", as default this are the news, what is the best way to structure
and display the information in the navigation. All is best if you have only
