    - Kerberos Authentication Hello Sharepoint Guru's, I have hit a bit of a brick wall in regards to Kerberos authentication. I have an ASP.Net web application that interfaces with sharepoint, this all works fine if I do this dws.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("sk", _SPSPassword, _SPSDomain); however when I tray and pass the default credentials it won't work. I have enabled the sk account for delegation in active directory and I have set both my sharepoint IIS and my ASP.Net application IIS up to use only Windows Integrated Authentication.     - Email Address change Hello, Our compnay's name changed and our email accounts changed also. The profiles imported from Active Directory and all of the links regarding account names on the portal reflect the change. The WSS sites did not. It appears that each site maintains it's own user information instead of referencing the portal profile. Is there a way to change all of a particular user's email account across all of the WSS sites? I noticed there were several instances of the same username in the table UserInfo, column tp_Email. I assume each site has it's own list of users. I ran an update query on our test server to change the email address for a couple of users and it did not appear to damage anything. Using SharePoint Portal 2003 SP1 on Windows 2003 Standard.     - Co-existance of Frontpage site and SP Portal Site We have a Marketing "front end" web site as our default web site and we allow our customers to do some transactions on this site using an application written in ASP.Net. Our web server is behind a router that our ISP forwards requests for our domain to and out router forwards it to the IP and port for our default web site. My question is: How can I allow my customers to get to our SP portal web site (on our server just a different site and on a different port) so we can exchange documents and collaborate, etc.? I am confused on how this might be done since the requests from the internet are sending packets. How can I put a hyperlink from our default web site to our sharepoint site?     - Permission problem for application in managed (external) path of Sharepoint I developed an ASP.NET application and need to host it on the same box as where the Sharepoint Portal Server is installed. I would be invoking parts of this application from a web part. So I first created a external, managed path on the virtual server where SPS resides. Now I can access the asp.net application via the same URL and appending the application name - http://<server>/externalApp/default.aspx Now I am facing an error when trying to make a SOAP request: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version ..caused by the line: HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://uddi.microsoft.com/inquire"); I am using a custom policy file which is a loosened form of "WSS_Medium", i.e., I have added a few more permissions specific to Active Directory, SSO, etc. The policy file definition already includes the following security class: <SecurityClass Name="WebPermission" Description="System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/> ...and the named permission set "ASP.NET" contains the following IPermission: <IPermission class="WebPermission" version="1"> <ConnectAccess> <URI uri="$OriginHost$"/> </ConnectAccess> </IPermission> Should I change or add anything here to this policy file, or am I missing something in the developed ASP.NET application?     - Setting up FrontPage extensions After installing SBS, I made modifications to the primary web site, and wanted to enable SharePoint services. From Internet Information Services, Web Sites, when I right click on the web site, I only see enable Sharepoint services, and when I go there, I see the different web sites listed, and next to the external site's name, I see "update", when I click on it, I get a help dialog box with the following information in it: "To upgrade your server to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, run Setupsts.exe. Running Setupsts.exe upgrades your server and the default virtual server. If you have additional virtual servers to upgrade, you can upgrade each virtual server individually by using the upgrade operation with the Stsadm.exe command-line tool."     - Can not lock my account out of team sites I need help locking the admin account (me) out of some team sites or sections if sites (meeting workspaces). I have rolled out a Sharepoint Portal server and have given each line of business the ability to create their own Team Sites off of the portal. The problem is that upper management created a site for them and did not give me rights to the site as they have confidential information there however; I can still access the site?? I have looked all over to try and find out why my account can get into everything under the sun even if my account is not listed to have access? Can anyone tell me if I might have used my account somewhere in the Portal config that is propagating my account down to everything?? As funny as it sounds I actually want to be locked out.     - In SPS2003, document library is replaced by what? I've just installed SPS2003 and I know nothing about it. But my workmates were told that the "document library" (in SPS 2001) is great but they can't find it in the newly installed server. I've made a little search here and there, and I've come across something like "... for backward compatibility, you have to install XXX component..." So a question surged in my mind: is it possible that "document library" once existed in SPS 2001 is replaced by something else in SPS2003 or its name has been changed?     - Account problems Hi *, I am running a Sharepoint Portal Server in an Small-Farm-Scenario. So there is one index-, search- and frontend-server and another machine running the sql-server. The problem is, that the "Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service" will not start but creating an error (category: Gatherer, Event-ID: 3030). All Sharepoint services and the ShareopintPS Search Service are running with the same account. When looking at the site Configuring Search and Indexing at the top of the page you can read: "SERVER, An error occurred attempting to connect to the requested indexing server." In the central administration the user starting all services is set as being the one for "Default Content Access". Does anyone know, what the reason might be? I assume that ther is a problem with the accounts or membership? I tried to put the service-account to the Sharepoint Administrative group account. But that didn't help. Any suggestions ?     - Extranet/Internal I have just followed the step by step guide to setting up an extranet for sharepoint 2003. It worked fine no problems. Internal users now get prompted for username and password. Under Configure Alternate Portal Access Settings I changed the default site to be http instead of https. I then couldn't access the site internally. I removed Reuire Secured Channel from Sceure Communication in IIS and I can access the site but I still get prompted for username and password. Firstly, is it possible to setup the Extranet to require username and password and internal users not to. If so, how do I configure this?     - Manage Virtual Servers - Upgrade? We have two portal sites, one that was created as part of the installation (which is our production site) and one that we created after the fact as a test site. When I go to manage virtual servers, these two sites are listed with different version numbers and there is an "upgrade" label next to the production site. If I click on the site link I do not get to the admin page where I can manage content databases, etc. Instead I get a page about upgrading or extending virtual servers. I found this problem while researching database connection errors that are occurring periodically. I'm not sure if the issues are related, but if someone could help me understand why these versions are different and what I need to do to upgrade the production site without losing our content I will be greatful.     - Document Recovery Hello, I've read some articles that indicate using the STSadm to backup the site collection and use it to recover lost documents instead of doing a full sql restore but I was wondering if anyone has used Lumigent Log Explorer for recovery with Sharepoint. I don't think its possible because of the way the data is stored but who knows. We didn't want to purchase the other 3rd party tools that are available for this type of recovery because we already own Lumigent. So any help is appreciated.     - Document Library "Forms" Folder Hi there, I think there is a bug in SPS. I know that each Doc Lib has a system folder names "Forms". Therefore if you try to create a folder having this name in the root of a document library, you're gonna get an error because it is not allowed. SPS allows to create "Forms" folder in sub-folders though. The problem is, once they are created they cannot be deleted neither renamed. The problem i have is that my client has created "Forms" folders all over the place in his document libraries sub-folders and now he wants to delete them but he cannot. I tried to delete them from the Web Folders, but they are always getting back. My guess is that there is a validation somewhere in SPS which prevent to delete such folder. The only thing is it looks like it doesn't validate if the folder is in the root of the doc lib or not... Any clue?     - User control in Web part We have created a tree user control wrapped in a web part for site navigation . It works fine, except that the scroll bars appears, when we try to resize it, even though the space that tree control occupies is much less than wen zone.     - Current topology is not supported Hi, I have problem that drives me crazy. I'm trying to configure a server farm with to front-end web servers and one database server. This is what I did: 1. Install SPS on the first web server and create a config db 2. Install SPS on the second web server and connect to the config db above 3. Make component settings. Everything I try here invloving the second web server ends in "current topology is not supported". For example I try to check web for both web servers and then clear all checkboxes for search and index as well as job. But nothing works. What else do I have to do?? Appreciate all help!     - IISADMPWD I know that it is possible to implement the IISADMPWD to manage user notification of password expiration. I also have seen where many have chosen the implementation of a script/email combination to manage password expiration notices. I just believe it would be easier from an administrative standpoint to let the computer manage it where we can. So, my questions are: 1) Has anyone successfully implemented this with the login of SharePoint? 2) Why would this not be a good solution?     - SharePoint Search Incremental Index/Gather and Meta Tags I have two related questions that I can't seem to find an answer to... 1) What does an incremental index for non-portal content mean? I understand that for portal content it's only indexing changed content. So how does SP know that content has changed on the web to know to reindex it? Is it using the last modified date returned from HTTP with a request to see if it has changed? 2) Does SharePoint use the META tag "document-date" or any other meta tags to determine the date of the document and therefore not update the index with the page -- and not fire persistent searches looking for updates. I can place any web part at page but when I try to push button "Source edit..." in tool pane of "Content Editor Web Part" or hyperlink in tool pane of "Image web part" new window pops up with message "File not found". The crazy part in all this is that a search of an area name returns nothing. I'm not sure what you mean by indexing items in an area. Is that not done automatically?     - IFilter question Hi *, I am going to setup a portal server as a samall server farm (one web server with front-end-components, index-components and search-components and another server with the SQL-Server). Now I want to install some IFilters, like RTF-IFilter from Microsoft. The installation guide says, that I have to put the rtffilt.dll into the system32-directory of the Sharepoint Server.     - SPS2003 Architecture Advice Please Hi Group, I've been thrown in at the deep end, and asked to architect a SharePoint solution for the following: A company with 6 offices in different countries. Each office needs to have its own main portal, with sub sites for their various departments. All 6 main portals and sub sites need to be searchable from the company portal. All users are setup in the same active directory. My questions are: 1. Do I have one central SPS site, or is SPS setup for each office with WSS sites under them for the departments? 2. If I do only need one SPS site, then how do I setup the office sites? Are they just created as WSS sites on different servers and added to the central SPS site collection? 3. Any potential problems or risks you can see me running into? I've read lots of marketing bumf about SPS, but am finding it hard to find good architectural information.     - How to move the default Content Indexes from a full c: drive Our Sharepoint 2003 installation is on a dedicated (single) server. This server has 2 drives (the c: drive being very small). Unfortunately, when Sharepoint was installed recently by consultants, the default content indexes were left onto the c: drive, and the non_portal_content index is already very large >10Gb (since it points to our very large file share). I found out yesterday through an error message that the disk was full. I am new to Sharepoint, so went back to the consultants who admitted not knowing how to change this. Context

We have a tool that reads a hierarchy of portal areas from an XML file then
creates (injects) the custom portal area hierarchy into an SPS portal site.

We usually create the top-most custom portal area under Home (level 1) .so
the majority of the new portal areas are 2 levels below Home .that is, at
level 3.

We then use the SPS Site Map to drag&drop the level 3 portal areas so they
are at level 2 .just below Home.

Problem

When we try to use the SPS Site Map to rename one of the custom portal
areas, the rename doesn't appear to fail but it doesn't work either.

Is anyone familiar with an SPS problem renaming portal areas? Has anyone
seen it before?
