I've got a good deal of it working but I keep getting an error regarding an item that can't be found.  - SharePoint search performance and folder size WebDAV property-only queries against the document store are taking 30-60 seconds. Some of the folders are very large 100,000+ documents and others are small, but the search time is the same even if I start the traversal on a specific folder.  - Document management via Clientside API We have been using the old Sharepoint for document storage using the clientside API from a stand-alone web application to Store/Delete/Edit/Organize documents. I am to research the Sharepoint Services 2003 and see if we want to migrate to this platform, been reading through the SDK But figured I'd ask questions here as well in the hopes that you guys could save me a lot of time and effort. The public Web Services part of 2003 seemed very promising, but very limited to viewing and changing basic Workspace site information. The basic functionality we need is to upload/download documents from sharepoint programmatically. Retrieve lists of folders/documents for certain document workspaces. And hopefully, tap into the document collaboration tools of sharepoint, retrieve older versions and the checking in and out documents. Its this all feasible using the Clientside API and webservices of Sharepoint 2003? Another issue I'm wondering about, I'm developing on win2000 server, but its seems Sharepoint services requires win2003, can I still access the clientside assemblies if I copy them to my computer? The old Sharepoint had a clientside install so you could use the COM objects, is there any thing like this for 2003?  - access error to companyweb I installed SBS2003 on two computers. On one computer everything works fine. On the other, I can access everything except the sharepoint virtual server for \\companyweb It gives an error 403 in IE6. I can do all of the remote web services. Also, I noticed that the sharepoint is not configured. On the first server, it used: (1) server name and (2) STS_Config. But this doesn't work for the 2nd server.  - SPS2003 - Role-Based Security removed? Cannot Assign security in DLibrary? Why can't I change security to the Document Library in SharePoint Portal SErver 2003? I use to be able to change who can view folders in the Document Library in SP2001. I can't seem to do this with SP2003. Currently I add users to the portal as Contributor and they can all remove folders in the document library, how can I control security in the Document Library in SharePoint Portal Server 2003? Why was this removed, I can only create normal folders but cannot create enhanced folders? I love SP2003 but this is critical need for our group.  - Ifilter question Hello I have the Adobe ifilter installed. Followed all the instructions to crawl PDF documents. I uploaded a bunch of pdf documents into a team site http://server:81/sites/test I named the documents TEST1 thru TEST6 for the titles. I reset the indexes, ran a full update, and then searched for the words TEST1 to TEST6. The documents showed up under both the the main portal site http://server:81 and the team site http://server:81/sites/test which is good. However, the document had the correct icon and metadata showing on the main portal search but it did not have the correct icon and did not show any meta data on the team site. Any ideas?  - automating updates to the WSS in SPPS1 Hi, My ever failing sharepoint server is playing up again and I have found a solution on ms-s site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287287 re-a full index causes false subscription messages This solution relys on a workaround that involves the use of the plex.exe tool to edit a propertie in the WSS. the problem is that I need to do the following to fix -run plex to disable subscriptions -run a full update -run plex again to re-enable the plex tool is interactive and therefore not easily run in a automatic fashion.  - SPSv2 behind NAT (using RRAS) Hi, I've got SPS behind NAT and am using RRAS in Windows Server 2003. When external visitors view the homepage of the portal it takes a while to display but other pages come up pretty quick. Is this an issue with lookup via NAT in RRAS?  - General deployment strategy question... We would like to look at using a combination of WSS and Sharepoint Portal Server as a document / collaboration tool for a worldwide organisation. Would the following scenario be deemed possible/a good idea? Any comments, or pointers to useful white papers would be most appreciated. The plan would be to replace existing simple file servers located in most of the global offices with Windows 2003 servers. We would then leverage WSS to provide "near" document management and collaboration functionality (basically replacing the file system with WSS). This would mean that network latency and bandwith issues would be reduced as the data the users work with the most would be closest to them... On top of this, and probably based in a single location we would want to put in a Sharepoint Portal Server to provide enterprise-wide aggregation of all the WSS installations and a global search facility. We would further extend this to include an externally visible extranet probably powered by Portal Server again... * Can Sharepoint support this kind of mix of WSS and portal server over a distributed topology? * Can Portal Server itself support a distributed topology where either data is partitioned or replicated to multiple locations?  - Unable to perform search - No results are available due to a network failure. Hi all, Hoping you can help with this one. I get the message above whenever i perform a search on one of our sharepoint boxes. I have read on a website that this is connected to a missing profile property under 'site settings'/'manage profile database'/'view profile properties'. In the portal site, I have a News web part on the main page which displays content from the Press Announcements area in News. I have exported this web part, added the proper <AnchorCategoryIDString> value and imported it into a subsite.  - Need help with Configuration Hello, I am having trouble understanding the configuration options with sharepoint. I have a front ende server and a backend sql server. I want to deploy sharepoint with the ability to move to a medium server farm in the future. My corporate portal is using a Virtual directory with a content database. If I create divisional portals....Using the corporate portal as the shared resources....Can I create a seperate content database for each Divisional portal? In each divisional portal, when I create a team website...can I use a seperate configuration and content database? My user wants to use Portal server mainly for hosting thousands of team websites....But they have only purchased the two servers to run a pilot. After the pilot there will be many many ---thousands of team websites. I would like to be able to backup each team website and keep it easily manageble.  - List data in Sharepoint 2003 I recently migrated a Sharepoint Team Services site to Portal 2003. On the site were numerous lists that contained links to other sites. (i.e., a list entry that serves as a hyperlink to another document library etc.) However, because they were hardcoded (ie. http://servername/) they need to be manually changed in order to work again. I know that in STS with SQL, the table where this information was stored was called docmd. However, I can find no such corollary table in the 2003 SPS SQL database.  - Site Creation email address With Self-Service Site Creation enabled, one of the pieces of information completed during site creation is "email address" - which is just typed in by the person creating the site. What this leads to at least SOME of the time: users putting in either a bogus address or else a home email, etc. When the user later gives others access to their Team Site, the email shows as coming FROM the typed-in email address (which so far looks like it can be absolutely anything... just like a virus!). And... when the user receiving the automatically-generated access message & goes to reply, of course it tries to reply to whatever address was typed in. Within the body of the email is the REAL user, of course - but it sure can cause a lot of confusion (& hijinks). Is there any way to change the default site creation behavior so that the email address must be validated against AD? or perhaps is just automatically filled in via the properties of the logged-in user?  - Excel Macro does not work in IE We have an Excel file, stored in SharePoint. We are opening it in IE. There are macros in this workbook. Some seem to work while others do not. For example, we have a list of accounts. If you click on one it hides the cells for the prior account and unhides those for the new account. This does not happen in IE. If we click onto a different worksheet and then come back, the data has changed. In Excel, stand alone, this works correctly. Any ideas would be helpfull. We are Windows and Office 2000.  - Migrate SPS 2001 > SPS 2003 I have a SPS 2001 SP2a server currently in production. I'm attempting to bring online a SPS 2003 server and I want to migrate all of the workspaces (and documents) from the SPS 2001 server to the new SPS 2003 server. The current SPS 2001 server is also our general file server and we are not ready to install Windows Server 2003 which is why we are moving sharepoint to another server. As I understand it we can't restore SPS 2001 backups to an SPS 2003 server. I've been trying to use SMIGRATE as per technet's migration doc, but have been unsuccessful. I keep getting the error "The server administration program sand the server extensions on the Web Server are not compatible. The server is too old to use with this administration program" Office XP SP-2 has been installed and I have installed the ows1002.exe update as per MSKB article 823376 but it made no difference. I have resolve the problem disable the proxy setting in account server farm.
With the proxy enable the indexing end search service don't start. When I
have desable the use of proxy the service has started. The problem, now, is
that external link (to external web site) aren't indexing.
