    - MOSS 2007: Multiple My Sites for different user groups I need to set up a second My Site collection for a specific group of users. Those users are same domain users but must not be able to find/ contact the other user group through my site or collegue search. How can I set this up?     - MOSS task workflow email sent in error I have noticed an issue that occurs occasionally. I have a project tasks list in MOSS and am using the approval workflow with it. At times when an item is edited other users not in the assigned to field are added to the field and sent an email about the update of the item. This does not appear in MOSS but in the email sent, the additional users added are listed first and then the original assigned users as if the task were reassigned and the eamil states that the task was reassigned. in the email the users crossed out were never assigned the task, only the users not crossed out, and the assigned to field was not edited although another field was edited. If you look at the version history of the item in MOSS it does not show the assigned to field as being edited. This happens randomly and the unwanted users are getting emails that they should not.     - Can MOSS search index only page content - exclude headers, menus, footers, etc.? I have implemented an Internet-facing website in MOSS. The site search works well, except that when someone searches for a term that is included in the main menu, then every page in the site gets listed in the search results. Is there a way to tell MOSS to only index the content portion of each page, and exclude the content in the header, menu, footer, etc.? The site is constructed such that the content portion of each page is contained within a single <div> tag with a unique ID, in case that helps. I have been told by Microsoft that this is not possible, but it seems like something that should be achievable. Thanks for any suggestions.     - domain\user vs. display name at site collection creation All, We are just getting started with our SharePoint 2K7 testing and have runing into an interesting problem. We have setup the schedule to pull from AD and everything seems ok over there. When we go to create a site collection and add a primary and secondary owner, the people picker doesn't work at all and the only way I can add someone is through domain\user. If you just type domain\user it will validate and allow that to work. Secondly, when you are actually in a site and use the people picker it will work and both forms and show the display name. What we want is for everyone to show as their display name..i.e. John Doe, not jdoe@domain.com Any ideas that can help me troubleshoot this?     - How to limit "Select People and Groups" list? Hello, Is there a way to limit the "Select People and Groups" list when adding a user? If I search a user, in the result I'm getting his account plus other test accounts that match the search. I would like to only get the good account as a result. One thing I did is changing the "Import Profile criteria" to exclude some accounts. The result is that when doing a "People Search" on the portal these accounts don't appear. But they stilll appear in the "Select People and Groups" search. Does anyone have information on how things are working? My guess is that the "Select People and Groups" search connect directly to the LDAP/AD and retrieve everything. Can I limit that list?     - Cannot get search to work in moss 2007 after upgrade from beta ver I cannot get search to work in moss 2007 after upgrade from beta version. I followed Shane Youngs blog. Everything about the upgrade went smothly except from one thing: the application GUID to the ssp application wasn't in the registry (why - I do not know) - hence I had to insert it. I get this error message: " Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information." In the event log: "Gatherer ID: 10032 Could not create a database session. The database connection string is not available. When a user in "member" group tries to upload multiple files "Upload > Upload Multiple Documents" where one or more files contains invalid file name characters (in this instance "&") sharepoint WSS 3.0 doesn't give out the related proper error message.     - Moving lists from one SharePoint server to another I have developed some lists in SharePoint 2007 that I now want to move to a production server. These lists have lookup fields in them. Of course, if I try to save the list as a temple (with it's contents) and move it to the production server the lookup fields are gone. One of the lists has over 800 entries in it that I typed in by hand and I'm not doing that again! Also, the lists are on the main portal page and not any sub-site. Two of the lists also link to each other in a "many-to-one" relationship. I'd like to have the lists be under a site on the production server (running the exact same version of SQL Server and SharePoint 2007) instead of the portal page. I've tried saving the list as a template and moving them over. I also saw some website about hacking the GUID values in the XML files in the list templates to get the lookup fields to work but I must not have done it right because it didn't work. I tried backing up the content on the development server and restoring it on the production server (via stsadm.exe and the Operations interface) but that didn't seem to work either. I'm running out of ideas and my SharePoint knowledge is very limited so I need help on moving these lists, with their lookup fields intact, to my production server. Can anyone offer any assistance?     - MOSS 2007 Blog template Comments section modification Hi, I set up a MOSS 2007 Blog site allowing anonymous access edits and additions to the Comments List. This allows visitors to my blog site to leave comments on my blog posts. All Good so far. Except, by default, it only captures the Title and Body for the comment. I wanted to add a custom column for Name and display that in the comment entry. Well, I'm not having much luck with that. I've managed to add a custom column to the Comments list and selected it in the default and Summary view. I even modified the Shared Web Part for the Blog post and ensured that the Summary View for comments had the Name column selected. Now when I add a comment, I get the Name column but after submission it doesn't show up in the comments section of the blog post. Any Ideas? Shary M.     - Configuration I'm really familiar with SPS2003, however I lost when it comes to configuring a Top Level Portal. I was able to install and configure Web Applications then extend the content so I have what look like seperate and independent team sites, ex: http://servername/sites/it etc... When I go through some of the labs I see what really appears to be the Toplevel portal with the Team Sites underneath. Anyway, I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious. Any help would be great.     - Unable to Create Sub-Sites & Areas (anything else works fine) Some of our portal users have started to complain that they were not capable of creating sub-site in our environment. After some investigation I discovered that there are two things that are not working correctly. First it's now impossible to create a sub-site. We keep getting this error message: The URL '/sites/anything here' is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web. Second, when trying to creat an area we get: An error has occurred in the portal site. Contact the portal site administrator for assistance. Anything else is working fine: creating libraries, pages, top level sites uploading documents, adding users into groups... in fact nobody complains of anything else than that so we can safely say it's the only problem. Both front-end servers are up-to-date in terms of patches (OS, SPS & WSS) I did try the stsadm -o upgrade -forceupgrade without any success. When giving users the ownership of the site collection, they have the ability to create new sites but it is not possible for them to create any variation of a publishing site. When creating a sub-site, I know it is possible to inherit the right groups. It is also possible to copy those rights and have this su-site have it's own.     - Selectable list which references different content to be filled I am trying to create a list where the following two choices below (when selected) will each display their own content to be filled out. Sharepoint Portal Server 2007 does this feature on its own when you choose to creat a new column. Where you select the radio button that had the content you like... and then below the required information for the content you selected is displayed. I have scheduled this task to run every morning. --I have review the following logs: server, IIS, SQL, SPS. There is NOTHING conclusive. --I have gone through each website and verified they are not running .NET 2.0 --As a test, I switched the websites to run on .NET 2.0, ran the upgrade command, reset IIS, and broke it. I verified the web.config file was changed. I switched the websites back to .NET 1.1, resetIIS, and ran the upgrade command. All worked fine again. Two days later, same problem. 4) Problem only occurs on my prod box, and only between the hours of 2-6am. I have looked at all jobs, services running, and still no joy. 5) Possible courses of action: --uninstall .NET 2.0 to void chance of SPS "thinking" it has a choice between .NET 1.1/2.0 --uninstall all .NET, re-install --I uninstalled it from my Beta server and it seems to be fine. So: Server: Win2K3 R2 SP1. SPS2003 SP2, WSS 2.0, .NET 1.1/2.0, SQL 2000 SP4. All current updates. 1) I received the error: "The Windows SharePoint Services virtual server has not been configured for use with ASP.NET 2.0.xxxxx.0. For more information, please refer to Knowledge Base article 894903 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=42660" 2) I used the cmd they recommend: stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://URLOftheVirtualServer. The command runs with no errors. 3) All seems well, but the error will occur re-occur by the next morning. An IISRESET fixes the problem every time.     - restore central admin back (plz help) Hi, I've went into "Alternative Mapping" section and changed the Central Administration's url which is "http://servername:26208" from 'default' to 'internet'. We want to "lock" a document once it has been finalized so no more
edits can be made to the document. I have thought of having one
person check it out so no others can edit it. I have thought of
moving it to a different folder to which others only have 'view'
capabilities. I have some issues with both of these options. Anyone
have any other ideas?
