Yup, but there might be a few tricks to get it going. Check out the WSS

I haven't tried the setup yet just because I normally run SQL on the
same box as SharePoint and don't want to do the 2.0 dance yet. In a prod
environment you would probably have SQL on a different box so it's
easier to tweak the 2.0 settings there. My recommendation is to just
wait until MOSS 2007 and full support for SQL 2005 with SharePoint as
there are no real advantages to it (some performance increase). Unless
you're installing SQL and just want to be running 2005 instead of 2000.
