do file shares get indexed

I run a small sharepoint trial in a testenvironment on a single server.
People don't manage their files, files are redundant all over the company so
a lot of our content is hard to find.
So I want to use Sharepoint for filesharing (not all files, a selection will
be made). If I use the webpart that points out to a share \\servername\files
do all those (Msoffice) files get indexed?

never mind, they do obviously, I misunderstood the manual
