I have just installed SPS2003 beta 2 on a W2003 server, which already
has SQL2000SP3 and STS beta 2 TR.

After installation, the Sharepoint Central Administration in IIS does
not start, because the application pool was empty; I picked one, and
started the service.
However, on all pages I want to load, I get "internal error 500".
I am not able to run the "SPS\FarmDatabase.aspx" page.

Also, the sites setup in STS can not be reached anymore. (looks like the
start page in the default web site is gone.)

Any ideas where to start looking for errors?

Thanks,

You shouldn't install SPS 2003 on top of WSS Beta-2 TR (STS v2 does not
exist in Beta-2 TR form).

You should in other words remove completely WSS before installing SPS v2.

SQL 2K can probably stay.

Thanks you. Does that mean, that I need two servers for these two
applications, or do I get both functions when installing SPS2003?

Could it have something to do with, that the server is not yet on a
domain?

You get both when you install SPS 2003.

The only difference to standalone WSS of the WSS part is that the (WSS)
sites are located at an address below the main (SPSv2) website.

I have seen one message by someone blaming not being on a domain for an
SPS v2 installation not working; but a reply to that said that the
replier did have such an installation and it worked fine.

Almost certainly it was the existence of WSS that was the problem.
