Associating Index Option
I am looking for more information on the "Associate Index" option in sharepoint portal 2003. I looked through the help file in sharepoint and it just tells you how to set it up. I am looking to find out what it does, when you would use it, and if it is the same thing as propagating indexes in the 2001 version
Maybe someone can point me to a link somewhere that has more information on this
Thanks

SPS 2003: Cannot delete site - is this a bug?
Hi
When I try to create a site, it says:
A site with the specified name already exists.
So, I go to manage sites, and indeed, the site is there (BUT several
times!)
So, I delete each one (by selecting 'Delete Item' from the Drop Down
List)
And indeed, they drop off the list.
BUT, I still get the same error when trying to re-create the site.
I am left feeling this is all a bit flaky.
Why were there more than one entry in the Maintain Sites page?
Why could I delete them all, but still the site exists?
How on God's earth can I get a list of the physical sites and actually
delete the offending site?
As usual, any assistance will stave off the overdose.

Problems after using SMigrate to copy SPS2003 sites
Hi
I have used SMigrate to copy a site and it's subsites (and their
subsites etc.) from one server to another.
This seemed to work ok on the face of it, but when I try to add new
items to any list, or create new surveys or modify anything in
general, I get the same error:
<--
Item does not exist
The page you selected contains an item that does not exist. It may
have been deleted by another user. Click "Home" at the top of the
page to return to your Web site.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.
-->
Looking at it, it seems that the actual form to add the list item
(e.g. http://newsps/sites/Departments/IT/Lists/Contacts/NewForm.aspx)
does exist, but it's causing an error.
Looking at the actual aspx file, I notice a couple of GUIDs for
webparts. I'm wondering if these are the problem?
Help!!!!! (please :)

SPS 2003 and HTML Meta tag
Is it possible that sharepoint (while crawling and indexing external
sources) ignores meta tags where the content is only 1 character long?
I'm using sharepoint portal server 2003 to index some external
websites, and in these websites there are some tags in the following
form:
<meta Name="category" Content="8">
However, if I look for the property in the site settings of SPS, I
find the property, but there are no documents mapped to this property.
Some help would be very helpfull as iI've been struggling with this

Forgive the basic question, but I can't see to find anything that lists the
limits of SPS 2003 own repository. I know that 2001 had a limit of around

Also, at what point does it make sense to not use SPS's own repository and

Calculated value
I have a user that has developed a list with multiple columns. 2 of the
columns are numerical, with one of them being a calculated value. Here is
the setup
Column 1 is called Estimated order of Magnitude
Type is Number

Automatic decimal places
Default Value is Number
Column 2 is called Estimated Effort
Type is Number
Require that this column contains... is No
Automatic decimal places
Default Value is Calculated Value using the following formula :
=IF([Estimated order of Magnitude]<=60,1,(IF([Estimated order of
Magnitude]<=120,2,(IF([Estimated order of Magnitude]<=180,3,(IF([Estimated
order of Magnitude]<=240,4,"5")))))))
Basically this field should auto populate with number from 1-5 based on the
number entered into the first field. When I hit OK on Column 2 I get the
following error -
The formula contains reference(s) to field(s).

but unfortunately wasn't able to figure out if my situation is the same as
the one described. This is not my list or formula so I'm not even sure if
the syntax is correct, but I believe it to be. Thanks.

V2 Dm server / SSL / Basic authentication / WebDav / problem
Hi,
Maybe someone may have an idea on the following problem we are having.
We have set up the SPS V2 DM server on an extranet and it is installed on a
domain controller. We have our own custom app installed on it that runs on
the Exchange Store part of SPS. [All this works on SPS V1]. The box is
configured to use basic authentication and the App pool used is the
SharepointDMAppPool whose identity is set to Local System.
The app ran fine until we put SSL on the box - with SSL installed and
configured there is a couple of area of the application that break. The main
one is where we check if a folder exists by doing a WebDAV PROPFIND request.
If the folder exists then the PROPFIND executes correctly - if it does not
exist then it appears that the xml http request call barfs on the send
method. The error displayed is "unknown name" and the responseXML appears to
be not populated.
This is now happening over both http and https.
It looks like installing the ssl cert trashed something.
Anybody any ideas where to look next?
Anybody know the identity of the process that handles dav requests?
Anybody know how to trace or debug backend dav requests?
Thanks

Add web part zone to STS template
Hi,
I'm trying to add a new webpart zone to the STS template (C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\STS\default.aspx). However, the zone must be
placed inside the <form runat="server"></form> tags.
The existing <form runat="server"></form tags are around a small portion of
the the HTML. If I move the tags to start just after the <body> tag,
finshing just before the </body> tag I get an error. I cannot add a second
set of form tags around my new zone as you can only have one set witht he
runat="server" attribute per page.
I have managed to achieve it on one page using the STS template by dragging
stuff around in FrontPage2003, but I don't want to use this as it
disconnects the page from the original template.

Search does not work at all
Hi,

I'm totaly new with SharePoint Portal Service 2003.
I'm working on a Portal site that was constructed by

Everything he did works fine but not the seach. There are

thing that I want now is to search through a word that's
inside a word or text document. The search should display
then all the documents that contain that word. But the
search does never find something. I just want the search
to work like it should work. I don't know where to
look.
Also when I look at the "Central Administration" page
at "Component Configuration" and then
"Configure full-text search", I see the message
"The database this server is using does not support
search"
Could it be that this is the reasing why my search doesn't
work at all ???
What can I do to correct this ??
Does anybody can help me to correct my problem.
Many Thanks.
