Our organization has 2 domains (don't ask me why). Everyone has an account
in the parent kerberos domain, not everyone has an account in the AD child
domain. SharePoint is installed in the child domain.

So when somone wants to use SharePoint we create an account for them in the
child domain. The email team tells me this child domain account must not
include their email address or else the global address book would end up
with two entries for that person.

SharePoint ends up not having an email address for that person. I go edit
their profile settings and add it in. Later it gets removed again. I
presume this happens as part of the full user profile import on weekends.
Is there anyway I can get their email addres to stay after I manually enter
it in? I would like it to automaticly be there but at a minimum I'd like to
save what I have typed in.

Thanks for any help

Hello super,

You can just remove the connection between the email address in the user
profile with AD.

Hope this helps!

I don't understand. I need to change their account in Active Directory?
I am a sharepoint admin, not a domain admin. I don't have access to change
their accounts in AD.

Hi Super,

There is no need to change anything in AD. Just remove the connection in
the MOSS user profile with AD. This prevents the AD properties overwriting
the MOSS profile database.

So you are saying remove the profile property for email so it doesn't import
that at all? Won't that mean I don't get any email address for any users?
That would be bad. I just need to type in about 30 out of 10,000 and have
them stay.

Is there any way to have sharepoint get their email address from another
source? Everyone is properly populated in the global address book.
Sharepoint seems to be taking their email address from the AD account rather
than the GAL. If I could get it to pull from the gal this would be fixed.

Hello Super,

I regret to say that there is no such built-in UI or feature we can use it
to import the email addresses information from GAL. however, you can try to
ask this question the MSDN newsgroups or Forum to see if this could be
achieved by coding. If you are a managed MSDN customer and posting the
question to the managed MSDN newsgroup, a dedicated engineer will help you
closely.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I am glad to be of
assistance.
