We have created several document libraries and we have put several differend
file types in there. When we click edit to open up a MS Office document we
are able to open the file and edit it and then save it back into sharepoint.

Is there a way to set this up for other file types, like .txt files or any
other type of file?

Thanks,

Paul Stephenson

Does anyone know what I am talking about or have I missed something very
basic?

Thanks in advance everyone,

Paul

This pretty much only works with office 2003. Are you wanting to open txt
docs with word? It might work if you associate txt docs with Word. Never
tried myself though.

Yes, We would really love it if we could put all kinds of documents in
there, some non MS and some MS, and then be able to open it directly and
edit it. Hopefully this will be available in the next version b/c it would
make portal that much stronger.

Do you know if anyne has successfully extended portal to allow for this?

Thanks again for your help,

Paul

The only workaround I know of is to associate Microsoft Word with the
text file before uploading it. When uploaded, switch to the Explorer
View in the SharePoint Document Library and double click on the txt
file. It will then open in Word.

Does anyone know at what level this integration could be developed in
sharepoint. i am thinking about possibly coding something like this or pay
to have it done.

Any ideas?

Paul
