    - Create Custom List in Portal Area I am attempoting to create a custom list in a Sharepoint Portal area. When I Browse the available web parts - I do not see a selection for a custom list - or any list for that matter. I can add a document library but not a list. I have attempted to make a list created on a WSS site available in the portal area but it just copies a hyperlink to the list rather than displaying the list iteself.     - user profile import My nightly full import of user profile information from Active Directory appears not to be working. I don't get any errors in the log, and when I run it manually from the admin page it seems to go through almost 1000 records, but the information is not getting updated. I tried switching from a custom source (was using LDAP filter to exclude disabled accounts), specifying a particular AD server, etc. and nothing seems to make a difference. My network admin tells me that we have some Win 2003 AD servers and some Win 2000 AD servers, I don't know if this would make a difference. I've had the system up for more than a year, and the import was working until recently. When I look at the UserProfile table in the PROF database, the LastUpdate column shows a date of about a month ago for most entries. Almost 100 records in the table seem to get updated when I actually run the import, but even for those users, the actual information in their profiles is not getting updated.     - Adding attendees sometimes shows email address I have 14 users in AD that were created by copying a master account. When I add the users as attendees, 7 of them show their ful name in the attendees web part, but the other 7 show their email address. I have tried this same procedure on 2 other computers with the same results. I thought that it might be a cache problem from Outlook so I deleted my outlook profile and tried again, no luck.     - How do I allow documents to be copied but NOT deleted I have various documents in a document library that are to serve as templates for users to copy to their dekstop and fill out. I want the users to be able to copy the files but not accidinetally delete the files. What happens is the users at times switch to Explorer view and drag the files to their dekstop and select "Move", this deletes the file from Sharepoint and cause me grief. Is there a way to fix this?     - Sharepoint Portal Server is erroring out after setting Anonymous in IIS -- Please Help! Hi Everyone, In reading some posts about restricting access to Document Libraries I read a few folks suggesting to setup Anonymous access to the Team Sites, and to do this I read I had to enable the anonymous account in IIS. I did this and all seemed to work until I rebooted. How when I access our portal site I get the following error: You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area. To change your rights, contact the site administrator. I changed the IIS settings back to not allow Anonymous access but no difference. Can someone suggest a fix for this?     - Populating dropdown box My users create a new top-level document workspace every time they start a new project. The workspace's document library has a custom column of type Lookup, which allows them to select a value from a List I have created. Every workspace uses exactly the same List. I want to create the List once and have all workspaces use it, but I cannot figure out how. If I create the List in the document workspace template, I must edit EVERY workspace (and there are hundreds) whenever I make a change to the List. If I create the List in an Area or in some other Site, it does not appear in the "Get Information From" list. I thought I might create the List in a top level site and force all document workspaces to be created as subsites, but the List still doesn't appear.     - Weird Email Issue - Access Request When a user requests access to a site or resource on a site I get an email for the request. The problem is that the From address is WRONG. Lets say Bob Smith is making the request. The email comes from Steve Jones. I've checked the settings and the from and reply addresses are "support@...." The only thing I can think of is that Steve Jones has a Sharepoint 2002 server that he's using and my Sharepoint 2003 server is picking up something from his.     - ifilter error on one area within a portal Dear All, I recently posted one search and index problem from our own internal portal, but also have another at a customer site! Only one area within the customer's portal has problems indexing and searching all files within that area. The document or IFilter may contain errors. ) clicking on the "sts2..." url in the message gives the following error: Cannot convert the URL to a form readable by the browser. The service may not be accessible, or the content might have been removed. The files within the document library are mainly word and excel format.     - Search and indexing problem on some files within one area Dear All We are experiencing a few problems with our own internal Sharepoint Portal where certain files are not being indexed. The files in question were all added after 03/03/2006 to one area within our portal. The relevant errors we get in the gatherer log are similar to the following: 10/05/2006 10:00:38 Modify sts2://portal/sales/webid=006/ listid={ea2dd8ae-e83d-4c73-82cd-074a14bd7141}/ The address could not be found, (0x80042616 - Error in the Site Data Web Service. ) There are other messages aswell, but they appear to relate to content that is no longer available. I have tried various things: * clicking on the "sts2://..." url - doesn't work; returns an error: "Cannot convert the URL to a form readable by the browser. The service may not be accessible, or the content might have been removed." * checking that proxy settings are not in use on the server (as in MS KB#835521) * checking that the config database is named as default * checked the version of stssoap.dll - 11.0.6551.0 (25/03/2005) * tried adding new files with no strange formatting to see if it is a formatting problem within a file (as in MS KB#898081) as the index and search works on all other portal areas, apart from the sales area, and within the sales area it appears to work on all early documents, but not later ones; I don't know what else to look for! I am trying to set up an audience in Sharepoint Portal Server; i dont quite understand the relationships between the operand, operator and value; when i try to compile i get the following error message: 'The audience cannot be compiled, because the account used to compile audiences does not have the proper rights.     - Using Windows Groups to restrict site access????? Hi all, I was just wondering whether the above was possible and practical? The closest I have come so far is to use our mail lists which are roughly in line with the groups that we need. Only problem is obviously the groups are not then dynamic, i.e. if someone is added to the group they will have to be manually added to the sharepoint site...     - Users appear to be anonymous Hi I have portal server setup to run out local intranet. We are using win2003 and SQL 2005. IIS6 is setup so that the site uses windows authentication. It appears that when user make contributions to any site underneath the portal site changes are not being tracked. For example if I check a document out the list view of the documents does not show who has checked it out. If edit the document and save it the list view of documents does not show who last modifed it. If I edit a task the last modified by is blank etc. This appears to be the same for all sites.     - Password Protected Excel file stop asking for password I have a excel file in SP that I normally edit it without checking it out. For a long time it always ask me for password since it is password protected. But all of the sudden it does not ask me for password anymore. I tried to close all windows on the desktop and reopen the file and that does not help. I check and found no one was checking out the file for editing.     - Performance - IListProvider vs IFilterProvider ? I'm trying to figure out which is the best design for two web parts. One is a provider web part that will allow a user to enter criteria to search orders by. The other is a consumer web part that will display the orders that match the criteria entered into the provider web part. I think I have two options: (1) make the provider web part implement the IFilterProvider interface and pass the filter values to the consumer web part. In this case, the consumer web part would then take those filter values and then make a call to a database stored proc to retrieve the data and display in a grid. (2) make the provider web part implement the IListProvider interface. When the user submits the query, the provider web part takes the criteria values entered and calls the database itself and retrieves the data. It then passes the datatable to the consumer web part, which receives the datatable and displays in a datagrid. Are there any performance issues to consider between these two options? For instance, if I chose option number 2, would retrieving data and then passing the datatable to the consumer web part require more work (maybe in serialization) than going with option #1?     - Prompted for a User name/Password - Please Help I have a couple of users that get prompted for their user name and password (to the domain) when they access our sharepoint site. What I noticed on one of the users (even though she has admin rights on the sharepoint site and local machine) is that when she logs in from her laptop, everything is fine but when she switches to this other machine (even though she is logged into the domain and has also admin rights locally), she gets prompted for her user name/password (domain). Now, he cannot access his page any longer: when he clicks "MySite", he is asked for UID and password.     - ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts in SPS 2003 Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but here goes. I have SPS 2003 and have successfully written and deployed Web Parts to it developed in VS 2003 (.NET 1.1). I have developed and successfully tested (locally on the development workstation in VS 2005) the Web Parts from the 'Introducing the ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts Framework' Technical Article. Now I am trying to import one of the web parts from the article to SPS 2003. I copied and changed one of the dwp files that worked previously and the manifest.xml file. I copied the dll (FeaturedProductPart.dll) to the GAC on SPS 2003 server (after making it a strong named assembly). I modified the web.config file to register it as safe. I have installed .NET Framework 2.0 on the server and ran aspnet_regiis.exe from the .NET 2.0 folder and used the "-ir" option so that the script maps were not changed (so SPS 2003 would still run). I also restarted IIS after running aspnet_regiis. After all that, I still get the "...not registered as safe" error message. Is there something I am missing?     - Backup and Restore I am in the process of trying to restore our production server to our development server but I have hit another road block. When I launch the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Backup and Restore utility and I select what I wish to have restored and then click on the "Edit" button, under the IIS virtual server I am only able to select the "Default Web Site" but i need to be able to select another location. The only way to add a new item to the list of available templates on the Template Selection page is to copy an existing template, rename it by using a name that starts with "SPS" (without the quotation marks), edit the XML file for all templates to add the new template, and then restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). if i want to have two contacts on a subarea bringing the webpart 'Contacts'
in again duplicates the contacts i've already created. Can i fix this?

You need to create a new contacts list. Then you can bring it on the page
and it will be blank.
