    - Installation Issues I'm having a problem in my installation of SPS and connecting it to the SQL Server. I get this error message on the 'Specify Configuration Database Settings for *SERVER_NAME*' Page --------- Error accessing database. Verify that the database server name and the instance name (if present) are correct. Also, ensure the configuration database administration account has sufficient permissions on the server or instance and the service corresponding to your SQL Server instance is running. --------- Does the SQL Server have to be a part of the Domain of the SharePoint Servers?     - backup and restore of files in sharepoint I have been reading the documentation and playing with the product, but I havn't seen how to backup and restore a particular document in a document library.     - dllhost taking up %99 cpu time Hi, We have a share portal server running for two years, today it's DLLHOST process has hit 99% cpu and resetting the server or restarting the services has done no good. As soon as one request is done to portal, the cpu goes up, I can only restore to normal by resetting the iis. There's nothing in the logs. Does anyone have a suggestion? The box is W2K SP2.     - Please Help Search on WSS Does not work but does on main portal Hi, I am using MS Sharepoint 2003 and have problems with the search. When I do a search from the portal it will return the results ok even from documents within a WSS site, however if I go into the WSS site and try searching fro the same thing I get no items found and it asks me to try searching on the portal.     - Web-part failures! Hi! I installed SPS03 few days ago and everything went well. My server was running on Workgroup. Yesterday I installed Active Directory and defined my server to be a domain controller for domain X. No errors or notices were shown. Now everything but web-parts does work. I have configured my SPS again but still no solution. Can anyone help me with this? My server is installed using Finnish as primary language so this error message is my own translation: "Some property of this web-part is incorrect. SPS cannot unserialize the web-part.     - How do I crawl site contents in a second SharePoint Portal Server 2003 instance? I am trying to set up my first SPS 2003 server to crawl the contents (document library contents etc) of all sites in a second SPS. Unfortunately I have failed to get this working, the sites are not crawled and the index is almost empty. Does anyone have any clue whats wrong? It does not matter which "user account" I use for the crawling. I have created a new "Content Source" and a new "Content Index" for this to work. The rules I have applied are the following: The first server is serverone, the second external server is servertwo - serverone Included http://serverone/ Excluded http://serverone/* Included - servertwo Included http://servertwo/ Excluded http://servertwo/* Included This is the same setup as in the Content Index named "Non_Portal_Scope", where this works without problems (this index is predefined in SPS 2003) I have noticed that I can add the specific site to an index in the admin page "Manage Crawls of Site Directory", but this does not solve my problem, I can only choose indexes on the local SPS.     - Cannot install Sharepoint portal server 2003 Hello, I am trying to Install Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 trial version (downloaded from Microsoft site) on Windows 2003 server, standard edition. The installation goes fine for a while and then i get an error saying could not install SPSAdmin server and to check if i have sufficient rights. I am not sure where to check for these rights as the installation did not ask me for credentials while installing. Is this a known issue? Any help in this regard is appreciated.     - Can not check out document Hi, We are using SPS V1.0 and I have users with windows 2000 operating system which can not checkout documents. The save target as option is disable. User can not also create web folder to the workspace as well. From 200 users, I came cross only 3 or 4 users with such a problem.     - Importing contacts When I click on the import contacts link, I get the message "To import contacts, you must have an Address Book compatible with Windows Sharepoint Services and you must have Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater." I have Explorer 6 and am running Outlook 2003, which I though was automatically compatible with Sharepoint 2.0. Is there some switch or setting that I'm missing? When I make an "Alter Me" I get the confirmation e-mail, but then when someone changes the same file (which I have set the alter to send me an e-mail then a change is made, so in 5 mins it should send me a E-mail) it does not. Now I want to be able to link the Employee tasks web part to "My Site" but when I go to "My Site" (under "Modify my page" à "add web parts" à "browse"), I don't have the option to add Employee tasks from the web part list, if I go to main portal page and add a web part , I can see Employee tasks "Lists" and add the web part without a problem but only from the main portal page. So, I go to manage sites, and indeed, the site is there (BUT several times!) So, I delete each one (by selecting 'Delete Item' from the Drop Down List) And indeed, they drop off the list. BUT, I still get the same error when trying to re-create the site. I am left feeling this is all a bit flaky. Why were there more than one entry in the Maintain Sites page? Hi,

I have a NT 4 Domain and an SPS 2003 Server as a member Server in this
domain. When I add a domain group (i.e. sps-reader) to SPS members of this
domain group can not access the portal.

When I add a domain user directly he can authenticate and access the portal.

Is there something wrong with groups, NT 4 groups or my setup?
