Intranet then extranet?
Hi,
What are the concerns if we were to change the portal from an intranet
environment to extranet environment?
Is there any guide or how-to steps for me to follow?
Users as now having thier portal as intranet and user log in to the
environment from thier office. Now, as they expended and opening a new
branches, they wanted users from other location to access the portal. Some
of the user will be relocated to other branches. If we were to change it to
extranet, what about the users who move locations? their personal site won't
deffect, rite?
In which part of the settings should I change/tweak to make this portal
accessible from the internet?
Any help?

Change location of _PROF database
Our DBA's followed instructions on technet
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/sharepoint/movewsdb.mspx)
on how to move the SharePoint databases to another SQL server. The problem
now is that our My Site's don't work. When I look in the diagnostic logs, it
shows that Sharepoint is still trying to contact the old SQL server for the
_PROF database. I also cannot remove the old server from the server topology
because it says there are still sites on it. Any suggestions on how to point
Sharepoint to the _PROF database on the new SQL server? or how to fix this in
general? Thanks. Tag: SPS does "contains" FullTextSearch? Tag: 50880

Simple Question
I am currently in the process of doing a pilot for my workgroup for the

server setup on my server successfully. Right now I am trying to seup a
document library for my group. I can upload an Excel document and it is
listed. However, when I go to a separate machine and login to the SharePoint
portal and click on the Excel document (or try to get to the document using
the File Open command within Excel), it tells me that the path to the
doucment cannot be found. Can someone direct me to what I am missing here?
Thanks!

Display title in search results
Hi,
the search returns documents with their file name (endings truncated) next
to the icon. Instead, we would like to have the document titles displayed
(users find them much more expressive than titles, which are most often
abbreviations with date in numbers). The title does not show up anywhere,
not even in the properties.
How can the search results be changed to display the title next to the icon?

Any other way to give Admin rights to SPS Central Admin Pages?
Sharepoint Services Help states "You must be a member of the local
administrators group for the server computer or a member of the SharePoint
administrators group to view the Central Administration pages."
Is there no other way around this??? I work for a very large company and
manage the project server for our project managers. To add each and every
project manager to the local admin group on our project server seems a bit
excessive and a bit of a security risk. In addition, I'd have to walk
through fire in order to get a special domain group created specifically for
this SPS setup. Is there no other way to give admin rights to SPS Central

How to View Current Administration Group
Hi all,
This might be a silly question but I'm very green to SPS so please bare with
me.
I'm trying to give several people access to administer SPS but they are not
Domain Admins and cannot be Local Admins.
1) Before I set teh Admin Group I'd like to verify what the current group
setting is. I inherited this server from another person and need to know
existing configurtion before making changes. Anyone know how to do this?
I'd think it would be fairly straight forward but I haven't figured it out
thus far.
2) Can one set a local group as the Administration Group and add domain
users to that group and still have everything work appropriately?

Search returns no results after SQL restore
I hope someone can help with this one.
I have been testing disaster recovery scenarios and have tried the
following test but have hit an issue with searching.
1. Backup the prof, site and serv databases use SQL backup
2. Copied .bak files to another (destination) server and restored the
databases
3. Installed Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 on destination server
4. Restored the site and connected to the restored profile, serv and
site databases
5. All the content is restored intact except that searching returns
no results
from documents
I have tried rebuilding the Portal_Content and Non_Portal_Content
indexes. Both say that documents were indexed but when I search again
I get no results.
I have tried logging the successful indexing of documents but when I
search for a document which has been apparently indexed correctly
there are no results.
The database is SQL Server 2000, SP3a.
The only full text catalog I have found in the three databases resides
in the SITE database and when I try and do a rebuild of it (should I
need to do this?) I get messages in the event log to the effect of
'loading the filter failed with error 0x1' for all document types in
my database (doc, xls, pdf etc). I have hunted around on Microsoft
and newsgroups for a resolution for this error and I have found
references to installing MSSQL SP3 (done that) and changing the
registry (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323040)
to limit threads to 1 (done that) and increase the memory (done that)
and nothing seems to solve it.
Hope you can help.

Can I Link SharePoint Server to Weblogic ?
Hi, we need integrate SHAREPOINT with an application developed in

We have server "A" into we install weblogic server and workshop, then

- smigrate (WSS > SPS)
- copying the WSS content to SPS using WebDAV
None of these method worked.

Sharepoint and Exchange on same Server
Thank-you in advance for responding.
I have installed Sharepoint Server 2003 on the same server as Exchange
Server 2003. I have applied the workaround as outlined in Article ID 823265
and 832679. My problem is that I still cannot access the OWA via web as it
is not recognizing users. It runs the script to authenticate users, but will
not recognise them. For the following instructions:
1. On the domain controller, start Active Directory Users and Computers.
2. In the left pane, click Users.
3. In the right pane, right-click the name of the user account, and then
click Properties.
4. Click the Account tab, under Account Options, click to select the Account
is trusted for delegation check box, and then click OK.
5. Quit Active Directory Users and Computers.
I noticed that there was no "Account is trusted for delegation check box".
Did I miss something? If not, what other issues need to be addressed for the
workaround to function correctly? Tag: SPS does "contains" FullTextSearch? Tag: 50784

SPS 2003 and SQL 2000 configuration
Whe have 2 domains (appoved 2 way) on the same forest,
one domain (d1) hosting this SPS server, the second (d2)
hosting SQL Server (multiple instances).
The account running SPS and having access to the database
is on the d1 domain.
Can anyone tell me which are the minimum rights to grant
to this account on the specific instance of the SQL
server ? Tag: SPS does "contains" FullTextSearch? Tag: 50773
Start-up.
CHi, All.
Previously I only used to deal with SBS companyweb sps site.
Now I set up SPS on a normal win2003 Serverand I have a problem, well more
than one: after ending installation I tried to link to Central
Administration, but I keep getting an error 500.
I cannot even link to Single Sign-On Administration...
What's wrong?
How do I get started?
Last thing: is there a way to copy "companyweb" site from a SBS Server to
this one? How? What should I copy, and where to?
Thanks a lot for cooperation!

Portal Stats question
We are trying to view reports for Portal Usage Analysis via Frontpage.
We are able to view the Site Usage Analysis Reports, but unable to view
Portal Usage.
We are running W2K3 Enterprise Server with SharePoint 2003 SP1.
Do we need to use FrontPage 2003 in order to view Portal Usage Analysis?
Are we able to view Usage Analysis for a Portal site?
or Is Usage Analysis only available for Sites?

Two portals on one machine per https???
Hi there,
I am hosting 4 Portals on one machine, each in a different virtual Server.
Three of the portals are published through ISA Server per https. Since
Microsoft doesn't recommend terminating the SSL tunnel at the ISA (causes
problems with uploading documents...) I terminated it at the Web Server (MS
recommendation). BUT in order to use SSL, I have to use different IP
addresses for each virtual server. This, again, is not supported by SPS,
according to Microsoft. Instead, the recommendation is to use host headers.
Now, if I use host headers, I cannot use SSL, since the host header is
encrypted as part of the request for the site. How can this be done, then? I
don't want to use different machines to host the portals and I'm having lots
of trouble with SPS, in my opinion related to the different IPs of the
Virtual Servers (Alerts not working correctly, Search&Indexing not working
correctly,...)
I don't have an idea of how to circumvent this issue. Fact is: One machine,
multiple Portals. Fact also is, Publishing only per https. Does anyone have
a clue as to what I could do?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas Tag: SPS does "contains" FullTextSearch? Tag: 50759
SPS Notification Service
Hi all,
The alerts in SPS use a service, and the proccess related is
SPSNotificationService.exe. Is that right?
The problem is that this process's memory usage grows and grows. (We have
restarted the server an hour ago, the process started with 36Ms of memory
usage and by now, it uses 140Ms and still going up.
I don't know if this is the correct or normal behaviour, but I think this
issue is causing the server going slower.
Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Repeating error on job and indexing server
Hi All,
For an implementation of CMS 2002 and SPS 2003 on a medium server farm, I am
encountering an issue on the job and indexing server. This server is throwing
errors almost every week. The Errors are coming from source ESE with event ID
439, 418, 492 and 471.
Research on the internet gives me results of Exchange, but never about
sharepoint. Please tell me your thoughts about where to search for a
solution.
Detailed error messages are underneath.
Thanks in advance,
Ronald Lemmen

Bad response times after document import
Hi,
after importing ~1100 documents (~900 MB) from SPS2001 with spin.exe
(which creates a Portal Listing for every document, I found no way to
avert this), the response times of the Server have drastically
increased (minute!). As I need the metadata to be transferred with the
documents, I really depend on this tool. What could be the reason why
the response times get so bad? After deleting all the documents,
response times are reasonable again.
Grateful for any help, which is really needed

SPSv2 with Citrix
Hi All,
I've a request asking about the compatibality of Citrix MetaFrame
Presentation Server with SPS. Basically, the customer already deploy Citrix
and now wanted to deploy SPS. Is there any documentation out there so that i
can read/study on how to install and configure SPS in a Citrix environment?
Furthermore, I need to address them on the issues might arise from the
omplementation and also the best practises to deploy.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you. Tag: SPS does "contains" FullTextSearch? Tag: 50742
